Let's get one thing straight: The University of Maryland Baltimore County is NOT a party school. Most students go home on the weekends or are commuters to begin with. So if you are looking for a school with a big social scene, this probably isn't the best place to find it. That said, UMBC is a really good school for serious students. It has a lot of very good professors and majors offered. It is a technology-heavy campus with a good reputation in the sciences and computers. I personally was not in a science or technology field, which had its perks and downfalls. This means that the arts courses are generally smaller classes with a community of familiar faces and teachers who actually know and care about their students, but it also means that these majors can be gyped when it comes to financial backing. Regardless it is a good state school. The facilities themselves leave something to be desired. The school was opened in the late 60s and the older buildings are beginning to get shoddy. On top of this, they continue to build new buildings that do not match with the utilitarian style of the old ones. It makes for a strange looking campus.
