Alexandra's awesome 1/14/2008

Alexandra is fantastic. I've been seeing her for 3 years now, her cuts and blowouts are perfection! Plus she's super fast, which is so refreshing. I feel bad for the 2yr old's mom, she must have caught Alex on a bad day :( She really is one of the best stylists at U... and further. Pros: fast, affordable, professional service Cons: often unpleasant reception staff more

this is the same salon as umberto l.a. 10/25/2007

just had 2 say i noticed that the u and umberto l.a. are the same salon i think the u is just a nickname for the umberto l.a. salon i. guess because there are the umberto beverly hills salons .. same owner just differnt locations more

Best haircut I ever had! 10/5/2007

After reading the reviews on this site I was a little worried to go to U. But I am not a $150 hair cut person , neither a $15 hair cut type. So I went there and it was a great experience. \r First I really liked the atmosphere more relaxed than the Beverly Hills salon, a large and comfortable space. \r I really got lucky as I did not know any of the stylist, I got Bonni and Bonni is absolutely great. She took her time and not only gave me a very stylish haircut but also really took in consideration my own feature. Every one tells me that this is really the best haircut I ever had and I love it!!!!. I really do recommend her. Beside of giving great haircut she is also very nice. \r It did end up costing me $60 plus tips. more

Sliced neck. Permanent scar. 8/17/2007

I actually have one stylist I love here, but because of one incident where I was sliced on the neck by a stylist, I will never go back. I usually go to one women stylist at U Salon, but she was out on vacation so I took my chances with another male stylist. He did not have a friendly demeanor. I have a shorter style haircut, so you must cut along my neckline. This stylist was rushing and was cutting along my neckline and actually stabbed my neck! He apologized but that was about it. Does U Salon have no manners or strict policy on cutting their clients? I should have been offered a free haircut or something else to show that the salon was more apologetic and shocked by this accident. Instead I received a curt sorry, a dab of hydrogen peroxide and asked to pay my $50. I now have a permanent neck scar. Pros: Stylist Stella Cons: U Salon's actions after cutting a client's neck!!! more

Fun and low stress 7/13/2007

I love Lyle. He has been cutting my hair for 4 years now. He is amazing and fun to talk with. The nail place is fun to go to before or after as well. The U Salon feels upscale but not upscale enough to make me feel out of place. It's a great blend of the shi shi experience and the barber down the street. Pros: Lyle and nail salon Cons: The desk staff is a little snooty more

WORST Experience with kids haircut!! 2/27/2007

I took my 2.5 year old in for his fourth haircut. He wasn't too excited, yet was pleasant (eps. for a 2 yr old boy getting a haircut) The woman (Alexandra) greeted us & asked ""is he going to cry the whole time?"" I said no. He whimpered a couple of times during the haircut, MEANWHILE Alexandra was squirting the water from the water bottle in his face & eyes the whole time. Halfway through the haircut - which was SOO choppy & looked like sh**, she said ""I don't think I can do this anymore, I am very frustrated"" (he wasn't even acting up) Stunned, I asked if there was anyone else who could do it & then she said she would go ahead and finish (lucky us!) When she was done she just walked off - my son & I were both completely covered in hair. She did not offer to brush it off or offer us a towel or anything. We had this haircut cleaned up somewhere else a while later & the person was cracking up about how awful the cut was. Alexandra was RUDE - even mean & there were no apologies from the staff at the desk or anything. WIll never go back!! Pros: products for sale Cons: RUDE attitudes, terrible more

Worst Experience Ever - you get what you pay for 8/25/2006

My wife went into U today for a blowout ... it was her birthday and we were going out...after being forced to wait one hour after her appointment, she was seen and she felt they made her hair look like sh*t. She spoke to the manager, who was an airhead idiot and was very rude. I guess you get what you pay for! more

Easy to make appointments, inexpensive, and great service 7/31/2006

I was searching long and hard for a good inexpresive salon and when I came across U Salon I knew it was the place. I made the appointment the day of without any hassles. It's not too chic or ""trendy"" but the stylists are all great. It's pretty spacious my sylist, Harvene, did exactly what I asked for and I asked her questions along the way about the cut. This is the place for you if you want a pretty quick cut. Great prices too. For my long hair it was $44 - when I usually spend $60-80 at more upperscale salons. So if you want a cut or even coloring that is quik and inexpensive this is definitely the salon for you. Pros: Low cost, easy to make appointments, parking more

User review by vdubber 4/14/2006

I took in several pictures, talked with stylist aboout what I wanted and made sure that what I was asking for was possible with my type of hair and my length. Once into the cut, I stopped her a couple of times and discussed what was happening and where it wasn't what I wanted. She began again. I still did not get what I asked for. I decided that it wasn't going to happen. and it's better pay for the cut and cut my losses, pun intended. What I learned from this experience is that all you read about bringing photogrphs and communicating with your stylist is alot of hooey. I made EVERY effort possible and still lost on this one. Moral of the story is this is a nice salon and if you have a recommended stylists name, great. If not, not. Pros: decent price, clean & attractive , friendly staff Cons: No referral, haircut unsuited more

Guys cuts too 2/5/2006

Patty used to be a barber, then she got trained and she cuts hair for both men and women. Both me and my wife swear by her skills plus she is a total sweetheart. Pros: Patty, Easy Appointments more

Not recommended if you care about your hair! 12/16/2005

I just moved to LA and I was looking to save some money on a cut (I usually pay a lot more for cuts). Someone mentioned U Salon and I thought it could work since it's related to the umberto chain. However to this day, I regret my decision. My stylist was the worst I've had in 5 yrs. She cut uneven layers that were too short and really messed up my hair. When I asked how she got this job, she told me ""because they hired me."" I had thought the stylists would receive some formal ""umberto"" training but apparently the stylists are hired off the street. I'm sure there are some good stylist there but I wouldn't go to the salon unless you have a specific recommendation. I wish I had paid the extra money and gotten my hair cut down the street. Pros: relatively inexpensiv, easy to get appt Cons: unskilled stylists, bad haircuts, no training more

Aimee ROCKS 8/16/2005

I have been getting my hair done by Aimee for about three years and she rocks. Months after a cut I still get compliments from people on how great my cut looks. Someone actually stopped me on the street last week and asked where I get my hair done, she said she was going to have to steal my cut. If you are looking for a hair dresser who really listens to you and lets you know what will and will not work see Aimee. As for the salon itself. Very nice staff and great prices. more

Great experience at U Salon 10/15/2004

I was really looking for a change with my hairstyle, it was very long and boring si I heard about the U Salon and made an appointment. I was able to get an appointment the same day! I arrived to U salon (enjoyed the free valet parking!) and got my hair cut by Aimee. She was very creative and helped me decide on a cute new haircut for me. She did a great job, my hair looks fabulous, and all of my friends are impressed with what she did and love my new look! I highly recommend this salon, and the price is great too! I'm going back to get highlights next!!! Pros: great hair cuts, great prices, nice atmosphere more

great cut, not expensive 2/11/2004

I was very pleased with my experience at U. I saw Shawna for the cut and blowdry, and she did an awesome job! I felt like she understood what kind of cut would look best on me, and did that (within the style I told her that I wanted). Would definitely go back. One tip, though: do not mention anything that you've heard about the place being a training salon... they hate that (and it's not entirely true, anyway). Pros: great deal for the $, Shawna the stylist more

best hair ever 12/23/2003

The experience a person gets from coming into such a brillient salon is amazing, aside from the prices the stylist are phenominal.Everybody is multi-talented and a joy to be with. Pros: inexpensive, good ambiance, great service more

decent 4/28/2003

I like how you can get immediate hair appts. Nice space. Decent prices. The stylists are nice but they're a bit rough. I flinched a couple times when I was getting my hair blown dry. I wasn't really impressed enough to go back. Pros: Reasonable price, immediate appts, parking lot more
