Hidden Upper West Side Gem - TwoDo Hair Salon 1/11/2012

From the minute I walked in, I loved the salon! It's not your typical stuffy NYC salon. The atmosphere is relaxed and I could tell the colorists and stylists not only loved their job, but loved the environment they worked in! I absolutely recommend this hair salon to anyone on the Upper West Side looking for a place where all the attention and focus is on you! more

You owe it to yourself....... 2/8/2011

You owe it to yourself to check Two Do Salon out. I travel a lot for my job and have to look good in front of clients. I'm very particular - ok, I'm demanding - I live in NYC and have a lot of options. I come here. \r \r What a talented staff of people! From the moment you walk in, to the time you pay your bill - you are greeted with a smile and relaxed unpretentious attitude. Absolutely tops in quality, service, and price....and I've been in NYC for 11 years and checked out most of the so-called top salons. \r 1) Megan and Ishmael are the top colorists in the city. Not suprising that Two Do has been rated #1 by Allure Magazine. I've had other stylists stop me on the street in NYC and secretely ask me ""Who Does Your Color?! It's amazing!"" \r 2) Danielle is a gifted stylist who cuts my hair and does all my blow-outs. She also does Great Length's hair extensions, so when I was growing out my hair it looked immediately long and they lasted 6 months. \r 3) Now that my hair is long and healthy, Ishmael does the Brazilian Hair Treatment and my hair does not get frizzy - even with all this rain and snow we've had! Ishmael has a special method for Brazilian hair treatment that is different than the rest. \r 4) Art is also an amazing stylist - he cuts my son's hair - but make sure you book in advance because he's in high demand and it's understandable. People will ask you where you get your hair cut. \r \r Two Do Salon ""gets it"" = If you want loyal customers, address them - personally - and serve the best ones passionately. more

Relaxing atmosphere and fabulous cut by Yaniv 11/16/2010

I've been getting my haircut by Yaniv, a sweet and very talented stylist, at Two Do for two years now. He helped me make the transition from long and frowzy to short and stylish. His cuts grow out well, too. I wish I could go to him more often, as the cuts are a little pricey and I'm underemployed. However, I think he and Two Do offer excellent value for money. Owner, Megan, is a color genius. She spends a long time analyzing your hair and talking with you about what your want your color to be. A few times I've come back to have her fix things, and it's been no problem. I also like the experience of Two Do--no pretention but good magazines, tea and cookies. It's a relaxing treat when I go there. more

Yaniv rulls ! 11/6/2010

I was a first time customer and travelled quite a long time to get there since my friend recomended me this salon as a really good one.. Totally worth the trip! First I got a gloss treatment. Then Yaniv cut my hair. In the past, everyone cuts too much length and I've been very unhappy with so many stylists. Not Yaniv! He gave me a great haircut while keeping my length. Also a great blowdry that has lasted half a week and looks like it will last another week! He is a great hairdresser and really listens to what the client wants.\r Also the overall atmosphere in the salon is very special and unique in it's own way.\r Very recomended ! more

BEST... SALON... EVER!!! I have shoulder length hair - which is not typical for men in NYC. Also, my hair has been highlighted to a shade of blonde not seen in nature. I called Friday morning to schedule a cut and color - fully not expecting to get an appointment. The friendly receptionist who booked my appointment for later that afternoon, asked questions about what I wanted to accomplish with my first visit to Two Do. Then, she actually got the colorist - Suzana - to speak directly to me! WHAT? THAT NEVER HAPPENS ANYWHERE ELSE I HAVE BEEN IN MY LIFE! I want to talk about my experience in the salon. Suzana listened attentively to my needs and wants and took her time to perfect the shades in my new color. Prior to beginning it, She introduced me to Art, who would be cutting my hair. We chatted about length and layers and he told me that to go much shorter would not look good on me. Suzana began my color - and she told me exactly what steps she was taking and what they would accomplish - 2 different highlights, raising my base, adding low lights, then a toner and then a gloss. The cut with Art was one of the best I've ever had. He did exactly what I wanted and his understanding of my hair was apparent. When I got a look at the finished work of my new colorist and stylist, I was in AWE! It was the exact color and cut I had always wanted but was never able to get ANYWHERE! I walked out of the salon with my head held high - feeling like a million bucks, but here's the best part - I didn't even spend an outrageous amount on my fabulous new look. I cannot encourage you enough to go to this salon. I will never go elsewhere to get my hair colored and cut. Suzana and Art are true geniuses of hair - I cannot believe that it took me so long to find them. Thank you Two Do for the being the BEST...SALON...EVER!! Pros: amazingly friendly, SUPER talented, and attentive staff Cons: only one location more

Danielle's Cuts Rock! 10/22/2009

I have extremely fine hair and I'm always looking for ways to increase my hairs volume, usually by buying hair care products! After my cut with Danielle I noticed my styling time cut in half and my hair looks fuller simply from the amazing cut she gave me. She also did a treatment on my hair to create more volume which worked for the first two weeks. I highly recommend paying her a visit, you won't be disappointed! Pros: Is very skilled at working with fine hair more

a great haircolorist 9/11/2009

I really like Susana! She is an AMAZING color specialist. I will continue going to her always. Her energy is amazing and she always delivers a complete haircolor, no rush, with conditioning. I never feel like they have overbooked her and I never wait. However, there can sometimes be a bad vibe in the rest of the get to see them while your hair is cookin' A little bitchy at times, and stressful...Glad to be in the back room most of the time with Susana and having personal space! I don't understand the extreme hype. Honestly, I think some of the citysearch reviews are written by management. Pros: EXCELLENT haircolor by Susana... Cons: owners hover a bit too much over their staff more

A Great Little Salon, They Take Their Time! 6/9/2009

I just found this place. I will go back because unlike some of the salons in Manhattan, this place was not snobby and I felt so comfortable here. Ishmael (spelling?) was friendly and did an amazing, meticulous job on my hair color (which happened to take forever but it never seemed like he was rushing me or worried about the time...) Danielle then gave me an absolutely awesome haircut. Thank you Two Do! I will be back. Pros: Good Cust. Service, Great Cut, Color Cons: Price, A Little Too Cozy more

A cool salon in a cool neighborhood 5/20/2009

I've gone to TwoDo for haircuts, facials and waxing, and it's always been a great experience. Sasha is super-creative and always gives me a stunning cut. Joanne (my esthetician) is very gentle and precise and sweet. They both truly enjoy making me look good. Actually that's the vibe I get from the whole salon: friendly, low-key, professional, excited about their work. I never feel I'm being pushed to buy anything, but the minute I ask about a product, everyone knows exactly what to recommend to me and why (for my skin or hair type, etc.). You feel like you're in very capable hands with these guys, which is nice because other places have this kind of factory feel – like they're churning you down an assembly line. But at TwoDo the people always have time to answer questions and discuss beauty regimens and whatever. It's a cute space, too, with hand-picked art on the walls – I always feel like I'm sneaking into some private hideaway or little club. It seems to be part of a really cool, evolving neighborhood along Amsterdam. I recommend the place to friends and out-of-towners alike, and a few of my recommendations have turned into regulars. Some people want more fireworks with their salon experience, so this won't be for them. But for a nice chill experience and quality ""me"" time, this is great place to get yourself fixed up. Pros: Great cuts and services, nice low-key vibe Cons: Hard to get last-minute appts cause they're often booked more

GREAT FIND 4/10/2009

I’m a woman who’s always on the lookout for a great stylist. Well I don’t need to look any longer. I found out about TwoDo through a total stranger. I was on my lunch hour just walking back to the office when I spotted a woman with an amazing haircut and great color. I knew if I didn’t stop her I would be kicking myself for the rest of the day. Needless to say, she was more than accommodating when I stopped her and asked her where she gets her hair done. She told me she’s gone to TwoDo for a number of years and has gone to a number of their colorists and stylists and has not been disappointed yet. \r Well I made an appointment that day and left it to the front desk receptionist to choose the stylist and colorist. When the day of my appointment came I was excited yet anxious. I have to say this cut was by far the best I ever received and the hi-lites I got were noticeable yet natural-looking. I immediately felt relaxed and enjoyed being in a place where everyone was smiling and was very professional. All in all a very “beautiful” experience.\r Pros: Talented staff more

Great for haircuts and eyebrow waxes 11/26/2008

I have been going to TwoDo for over 10 years. I have had 3 or 4 different stylists there over the years. I keep going back because the haircuts, color services, and eyebrow waxes are excellent. Every single time I get my color done I am told that if I have any hesitation over the course of the week, to come back in for a re-do. I have never had to do that.\r That being said, it is not a perfect salon. After 10 years, Susana is the only person who ever acknowledges that I've been there before - but her hours no longer match mine, so I haven't seen her for a couple years at least. I often feel like I'm walking into a circle of friends who are too cool to talk to their customers - but when I want to hang out with my friends, I'll do that. When I want a great hair cut and color, I'll go to Two Do. Pros: Great hair cuts, color, eyebrow waxes Cons: Staff neither friendly nor unfriendly more

I love this place. 9/6/2008

I'm honestly shocked by the negative comments I'm reading!! I've been a loyal customer of two-do for more than 3+ years. Over the course of that time I moved to a different city, then moved back to NYC. While I lived in the other city, I REFUSED to have anyone else cut my hair because I only trusted Sasha!!! (My hair was SOOOOOOO long when I moved back, it was disgusting!) But Sasha is incredibly talented, extremely friendly, and a total professional. \r \r Going along with what many other have said, this is the anti-snoot hair salon. If you want to go a place WITHOUT pretention, I seriously recommend coming here. I have never had to wait long, am always offered a cold beverage when I arrive, and I am always consulted before Sasha begins snipping away. I appreciate her honesty and opinions on what we should do with my hair because she's a professional and understands my hair's texture, thickness, etc., and what would look best for me. \r \r This place is SERIOUSLY a gem. I've recommended this place to many people, and I know at least 2 who are now regular clients. Until Two-Do, I was NEVER attached to a hair salon in my life. NOW I have a place to go to and get a killer cut! Thanks Sasha and two-do - you guys rock! Pros: reasonably priced for Manhattan, cool space, friendly staff, killer cuts! more

TWODO SALON 8/30/2008

Do not go here! 8/27/2008

I wanted a new salon, since I have been paying way too much for a haircut. Came in and saw a man whose name I don't remember. He said my hair was awful and misstreated and yadda yadda... A trim turned into a Monica Lewinski hairdo. When I said my hair was poofy. He yelled and said it's not my fault you have thick hair. Also, I said I was growing out my hair and he kept saying he wanted to almost shave it and gave me bangs which I hate and stated that I didn't want any....\r Don't go here ever more

Drive-through color and service 8/14/2008

Went to Megan for color based on the rave reviews on this site. Was the worst salon experience of my life. In fairness to the salon, I made a lunch appointment which probably wasn't the best idea for a full head of highlights. \r \r I arrived at 12:30, was greeted promptly then sent into the main room where I waited almost 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge me. Had to ask about the water cooler, to get my own water. Megan's assistant finally did acknowledge me, but as a first time client, frankly, I expected to be treated more than just someone in a line at a deli. \r \r Was finally taken by Megan at 1:10. She apologized, but at that point, I should have rescheduled. She was friendly and did the highlights quickly but that was the problem. For $240, I expected a great experience and she missed a lot of spots trying to make up the time. I had to get my hair redone later, and my new hair colorist said I should have demanded my money back. I did reach out to the salon and never received a response. At my old salon, whenever a client was unhappy in any way, they went out of their way to fix it. Not here. \r \r Pros: Avoid Cons: Service, cost, physical space is very narrow and overall does not lead to a relaxing salon experience more

Very caring staff 6/25/2008

I had a great experience at Two Do Salon. Suzanne colored my hair. She took the time to go over the process with me, she took the time to go over my magazine photos of hair colors that I thought were good as well as gave her own recommendations. My color turned out great! more

Finally! TwoDo is such a great find! 6/10/2008

I just visited TwoDo Salon for the first time, and it was so wonderful, I felt that I should share my experience on this website. Citysearch is how I found TwoDo and I am so happy that I did. I am new to New York and I feel like every salon that I have been to has been over priced and pretentious with little skill or technique to back it up. Not so at TwoDo! They were so kind and down to earth. Everyone looked happy and they actually smiled! I had highlights and a haircut and both are exactly what I asked for! My stylists seemed to care about what I wanted and didn't just ignore me only to do what they wanted to my hair. They have the cute and private spa room for waxing while my color was on! I am so pleased to have finally found a place in this city that values the clients and the services! Pros: great service, i love my hair! more

Ive had enough! ! ! 5/2/2008

I came to TwoDo thru some friends so i will not mention any names. When i first went to TwoDo i was given an appointment with Megan. After a few appointment i realized not only did i not getting what i was paying for but Megan was sloppy careless and made me feel like i was insignificant! She would start a conversation with me n then walk away as if to sat ""i really don't care"" ! i expressed my thoughts about my color to her n time after time it was not addressed! I then saw someone else n was made to feel uncomfortable and strong armed to see someone i did not want to see and to top it off was treated with disrespect from the appointment desk! The final straw for me was the new girl they have at the front desk! Rude obnoxious loud classless and down right unprofessional!!! Good Luck if u can get past the front desk. more

Good Cut for Long Hair 3/24/2008

I always find the true test of a haircut (for long hair) is not how it look when its cut or even a week after its cut-- but how it holds up after a month or so.\r I got my hair cut two months ago-- and I am happy to report-- it still looks good! \r I have very fine, thin hair and the wrong cut can spell big trouble.\r I have to admit, though, when I walked out of the salon I was a little traumatized because the sylist went a bit shorter than he had agreed. Pros: good cut, no sticker shock more

Hidden Treasure in NYC 3/9/2008

I've been going to this salon for two years. I have always received excellent customer service. Even though the space is small, once you're in the chair you don't realize anthing that's going on around you because it's such a personal experience. From the minute you walk in the door to the minute you walk out you get the highest quality of service. I arrive a few minutes early just to see the quality and effort given to each client. Each client leaves with a smile. I can speak from my own personal experience. I have tried various salons in Manhattan and nothing beats Two Do Salon for cuts and color. I get the best haircut from Danielle and the best color from Megan. I'm still getting compliments on my hair when I'm ready to go back to the salon. That's the kind of quality service you will get when you go to this salon. This is truly a ""Treasure"" to be discovered! Pros: Ambience, Service, Five Thumbs Up more
