GREAT FOOD 3/3/2010

I had one of those day's at work and decided to stop at Twists to unwind. I had a turkey club that was awsome nice and fresh. The bartender Stephanie listened to all my woes of the day like she was my best friend. I will definately be back and would recommend this restaurant to others. I usually don't go out alone but felt very comfortable there. Pros: BEST BARTENDER more

Has gone downhill 10/10/2009

We ate here on a Friday night, and the food was less than mediocre and the service was worse. We sat at the bar, which had a nice ambience. However, it was not even close to crowded and we had to keep flagging down the bartenders for everything. We got the twisted popcorn as an appetizer -- my friend had it before and said it definitely isn't the same. Instead of having flavors of lime, it tasted like they just dumped oil on it. We also got the Margherita pizza -- which barely passed for pizza. It was flatbread with flavorless tomatoes on it and barely melted slabs of mozzarella. In an Italian town, this was pretty appalling. I had been to Twist a few times several years ago, and it seems that the food has really gone downhill. Maybe that's why the restaurant was half empty on a Fri. night. I am really sorry to give this restaurant a bad review because it's the first time I've had a bad meal at ANY Pinelli-Marra restaurant. I'm going to try Twist in Kingston, RI and see if it's any better. Pros: Good location, atmosphere Cons: Food, service more

Amazing everything 5/26/2008

Fabulous meal! The special, Asian style shortrib with wasabi mashed potato was unreal. The meat fell apart at the touch of a fork, the sauce was tangy and mellow at the same time. The potato was crispy on the outside, smooth and velvet-y with the perfect hint of wasabi inside. The Hot and Sour noodle bowl was a fantastic combination of crunchy vegetables, shrimp and littlenecks. So delicious, so much food, the noodle bowls was just as good for lunch the next day. I was so full, I couldn't even try my companion's Fried Rice, which he said was teh best he's ever had. Chef Maria Beland is clearly an innovator, and a great boss, all the staff was cheerful and happy! more

Disappointing 6/2/2007

I've lived in Wayland Square for 7 years. Before Twist, the Providence Bookstore Cafe was in its location. It had charm, style, atmosphere and the food was good. When it closed many people were very sad, but hopeful that Twist would help ease our mourning. Sadly, this did not happen. There are a lot more things I don't like about Twist than I do like. I've given it MANY chances and have finally given up. The atmosphere is cold, uninviting and downright uncomfortable. The interior looks as though it was designed by an amateur. The closest analogy I can come up with is a somewhat dressed-up cafeteria or airport restaurant. Then there's the food. While not all appetizers and entrees are bad, most are. Many dishes are on the sweet and heavy side which I don't like. There are also many dishes that are a little bit too inventive. They sound like they might be good, but don't deliver. If you do end up dining at Twist on Angell, stick to basics. The Irish Pub Burger is actually good, as are the Buffalo Chicken Tenders. The calamari is decent and the traditional italian dishes are too. It is always crowded on weekends. So, I guess a lot of people must like it. Go figure. I think that this place draws customers from outside of the region. If you had been to the Providence Bookstore Cafe and are expecting Twist to be similar, you will be disappointed. It's another animal. The service has always been good. Pros: Good service Cons: Atmosphere, food more
