Graet date spot 9/17/2008

I went here on a first date recently and had a great time. The ambiance was intimate and good for conversation. We drank some wine and time flew by. The staff was friendly and available when needed. Highly recommended. Pros: Ambiance, Service more

Pros: Nice venue, good wine, very cosy, looks like a great date place more

Small and intimate, great wine selection, but don't come hungry 4/26/2008

It's a sliver of a place in the West Village. Food consists of small plates of appetizers and a few sandwiches. It's the wine list that shines. I discovered a couple great Turkish white wines I never new existed. At an average of $10 for half a glass, the night will probably not be cheap, but you will learn... and taste something new. The harried staff of two (one Turk, one Frog?) manage the place in a brisk, but friendly way. It's crowded, but if you find a table you can have a cozy, even intimate, time. --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers Pros: great wine selection, quiet, intimate Cons: small, staff overworked more

Love Turks & Frogs! 3/27/2008

Turks & Frogs is a really cozy, neighborhood lounge and wine bar in the West Village. Very nice selection of wines and tasty finger foods. There is a really nice vibe here and although I went with a friend, it would also be great for a date. Highly Recommended Pros: Wine, Food, Ambiance more

What happened?? Such rude service destroys and old favorite 6/15/2007

I used to love Turks and Frogs as a place to end the evening with a glass of wine, a cup of tea or some snacks. But I went in last night with three friends and the barman/waiter was so rude that it will put me off for life. He was so angry and rude and never smiled once. He walked away after a friend wanted to order a vodka tonic, told me apple tea was not possible (it used to be on the menu), scoffed when we asked for a mixed appetizer plate and really destroyed the buzz of the evening for everyone. Please bring back apple tea and the cozy friendly service that used to make this a great neighborhood bar! Pros: Cute space, nice decor, good music Cons: Mean waiter more

Great Neighborhood Place! 2/23/2007

I live in the West Village and have walked by this place many times. The store front, which is decorated with unusual antiques, always caught my eye. My wife and I went in last Thursday for a glass of wine. We were pleasantly suprised by how warm and cozy the place feels. Also, the owner, Osman, was working behind the bar and was very welcoming and warm. We enjoyed ourselves so much we ordered a bottle of wine and a variety of appetizers. We were told to come back for a few games of backgammon. We will be back for sure! If you are looking for an authentic, friendly place, this is the one. more

OK date place 8/1/2006

I was there on a date and it was an OK setting. It was dark and romantic inside with the red lined walls but it felt overdone. The front area of the bar was cramped but there were plenty of seats in the back. more

Not impressed 4/11/2006

This place was a big disappointment. The atmosphere is nice, but the wine list is limited, and the servers seem to know very little about the wines they serve. Also, our waiter was the same person who prepared our food--he kept having to run back to his prep area, obviously overwhelmed--and it took 45 minutes to get a basic appetizer. Then, he forgot to make the second dish we ordered, and we waited another 20 minutes. I will say the food tasted pretty good, but overall it was just unprofessional and not a great experience. more

Nice wine 4/7/2006

Nice variety of wine. Casual environ. but not romantic. Unless you are in the back red room, seats are not comfy. Over all decor leaves a bad taste in your mouth but the wine makes up for it. Friendly service. Night we went, there were 2 bar hosts that looked like Fabio with dark hair. more

magical place 10/27/2005

I'd heard about this place from a few friends and finally made a trip one night. It's a sweet, neighborhood wine bar that is cozy and warm. They serve light Turkish fare and have an excellent wine list. It is definitely a great 'date place' with romantic lighting and decor. After 10pm it became really lively because of the spill over from the Meatpacking District. The owners were friendly and encouraged tastings from the wine list. I'd recommend you try it! more

Big disappointment 8/5/2005

I am Turkish and usually sentimental towards bars and restaurants that are run by Turkish people. But this place is a total disaster. At our first visit there many months ago the food sucked and the waiting staff told us that they ran out of Pita bread. Come on ! How about buying some from your corner market. Second time the white wine was served luke warm. And the staff did not want to listen to our complaint at all. If you want to spend a cozy night in a wine bar then do yourself a favor and visit of the other wine bars in the city. more

TURKISH DELIGHT 1/5/2005

This wine bar is exactly what the neighborhood needed. Someplace cool and cozy, where you can sit, have a drink and a conversation. The crowds vary depending on time of evening. After work, its a great place to meet friends or a date for a quiet drink. After 10:30 it gets more lively. The music and crowd changes. Great addition to the neighborhood. more
