Richard the bartender was great - explained the different sake selections in detail, and even gave me a taste of some of the unfiltered sake which was great. The fish was fresh, ...

The sushi was really fresh and really good (for the little that we had). The presentation was equally as pleasing. Unfortunately for this place, I have no tolerance for poor serv...

Has To Be The Best In The City 10/5/2005

I Love this place. i have been there close to 10 times and consistancy is thier top mark. Atmopshere is remarkable. This place is an ongoing party all the time. Service has always been good, I wonder where they get these servers. I heard that they are the biggest sake' place on the west coast & come to think about it, Im not surprised. the waitresses has so much knowedge about sake' and alawys recommended something out of 80 or something i told they had. I must admiot though, that at times they get very busy that it slows things down from the bar side & the sushi side... I accept that because my alternative is to go to a none busy place & then Ill complain it is not happening ?? Pros: Atmopshere, Service, sake more

What happened 10/5/2005

What's going on with the food there these days. It used to be fantastic but the last 2 time I went it's been way below average and the portions are getting smaller by the week. This place was great when it opened but I don't think I can justify paying that much for average quality. more

Terrible service + great sushi = go elsewhere 10/3/2005

The sushi is great, the look of the place is great, but the service is consistently slow; often messes up the order (it's happened to me more than once); and isn't friendly. It's embarassing, really; and while I've come here more than once for the spider rolls the truth is there are other spider rolls out there that are just as good. Places with attentive service that isn't too hip to be working that day - or at least not working particularly hard. Pros: Sushi Cons: Service, Service, Service more

Waoo They serve till 1am 10/2/2005

I could not belive that when we got there at 12:30 am on thursday night this place was still packed & serving food. We all were very impressed. High energy with excellent music, remarkable friendly & efficent service... these girls know thier sushi & sake' and got us to gozzel a whole 1.8 Ltr bottle of sake' !! The fish is probably one of the top 5 places in the city with its freshness & presentation..thumbs up guys... This is my new hang out.. I love it.... oh I got to check their new NIHON whisky lounge.. they told me its better than Tsunami ... haaaa ??? Pros: Sake', sushi, ambiance Cons: parking more

An All Night Party 8/15/2005

I cant belive I did not know about this place untill this past saturady. What a surprise !! This place is a club, bar, lounge & resturant all in one but not realy.. it is actually a small lounge resturant but with the feel of all I noted above. I tried their sachimi dish and it was magnificant... we obviusly had lots of sake' like all people around us seemed to be doing. We stayed at our table longer than I think we were expected, but we made it up for them by drinking 2 large 1.8 Lt sake bottles. Service has to be one of their best strengths... every body works there seems to love it and they smile all the time. This was an all niter out for us & oh yaa they took our email to invite us to their new whisky lounge ..cant wait.. Pros: atmosphere, sake', service more

marvelous 4/11/2005

I went with a few friends for the first time over the weekend. It was quite busy and noisy, but the place was great. It's tiny, but has a a sensous intimate atmosphere. It is best to go for late night dining. This provides less noise and a much better experience. The music selection was great, with selected tracks such as Gotan Project. That always makes for a terrific milieu. Knowledeable staff, and absolutely amazing food and sushi. The best sushi I have had in this city yet. Pros: great sushi, helpful staff, atmosphere Cons: crowded, noisy more

One Of A Kind 4/3/2005

Busy, Very busy yet under control. We went there on Wednesday and were surprised to be told that our table would be in 30 minutes but the wait was worth it. we had a drink around the corner at their sister bar Bar 821' great lounge'. Tsunami surpassed our expectations. We tried their sachimi combo which was excellent. The fish was super fresh & presented like an arat piece. service was magificant with a great recomendation for an excellent bottle of sake that we enjoyed through out the evening. this place is unique and one of its kind and it seems to work.. thank you.. we will come back again Pros: Atmosphere, Sushi, Service more

Magnificant 3/22/2005

We had the best night out on our 2 weeks trip in the city in this resturant. We feel bad we discovered it the last 2 days we were in the city. This place is one of a kind. It is resturant, yet designed as festive bar scene that does not compromise service that started with a superb hostess, to a very educated friendly waitress crowned by xellent sushi paired with remarkable sake' which we end up drinking a lot of it there. I will recommend this place to all who I meet. Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Sake' more

Odds Are You Will Love It 2/1/2005

We go out often and if something is certain is that consistancy lacks in most places. Tsunami on the other hand on more than 5 occasions Ive been there proved this wrong. service has been good although weaker on busier nights. Sushi is remarkable and if you eat sushi enough you can recognize how fresh the fish is and how nice the presentation even though its only 3 guys who are pumping all that food. I just found out they dont have a back kitchen; what u see is what u get... I have to c`ommend them on their sake'.. it is the best in this city and it makes their sushi taste even better when u pair it with their excellent selection. Pros: food, sake, presentation Cons: parking, waited long more

good sushi bad staff 1/24/2005

some times the staff is great some times it is horrible, however no matter what the sushi is great (unless the crab for spider roll was fried a week ago) and the sake is excellent. Come, sit at the sushi bar and eat and drink a great night away. Pros: sushi, sake, ambience Cons: , pre-fried food, over-popular more

Busy, fun, delicous 11/24/2004

I heard a lot about this place but living in the marina I nevr got the chance to visit till last night and I was pleasntly surprised and very impressed. The design is unique with a japanese reto feel combined with great music. Our waitress had us wait 20 minutes pass our reservation time, but having a coctail at their sister bar '821' around the corner just added to our evening. The sake' list was surprising to me to have that many sakes in this small place. the sushi was exellent and the energy I loved form the laughter of guets like me to our waitress and simply the enrgy of the place. I might even spend my new years there ?? Pros: atmosphere, sushi, sake Cons: , parking more

I was taken care off 8/31/2004

I went on Friday night. they were very busy and I was told it would take 30 to 40 minutes of wait & when I showed my displeasure i was surprised by the asian hostess offering me & my bf a drink in the bar around the corner. I was seated in 3o minutes and our waitress was the best we experinced in so many months going out in San francisco. she smiled all the time, explained things in detail and seemed enjoying the place as mush as we were. our food came a bit late but made no diffrance to us as we were entertianed all a long by the bartender, wait staff and laughter of the sushi guys. Thank you for a great evening out and i will visit you again Pros: Service, Service, Decor more

Great Place 8/29/2004

Third Time and all visits were great. I only like to write a review after 3 visits and all are good. The food is great coupled with trendy efficient service in a great space. i loved the invitation to the sister bar around the corner when my table was not ready, although I should say i had a reservation. the wait was good as the bartender at the sister bar was fun, nice and proffesional. In short, this place is professional, up with the times and I know will be here for a long time. I will certainly visit agagin. Pros: design, service, music more

Nice Chefs but not so creative Rolls 7/5/2004

Living in Los Angeles, most sushi places have a ton of specialty rolls on their menus. When in SF this weekend we came here because of the high rating. First of all the happy hour for any sushi no longer exists (which is failed to mention on the site) and although the saketinis were amazing...the sushi left a lot to be desired. It was good but nothing to brag about. We also went on a Saturday evening at 6:00 and we were the only ones there! Pros: drink specials Cons: , completely empty, waitress attitudes more

best sushi in city 5/4/2004

The food here is sublime, the fish is very fresh and the chefs create unusual rolls. I'm shocked to read that someone thought the food dull! I'm a regular and have never had problem with the service. On busy nights, it can be a tad slower since there are only two chefs, but unless you must devour your food like a wild beast, the pace is fine. Hint, sit at the bar, you'll be in for a treat. Pros: food, decor Cons: , noisy more

creative sushi rolls 4/26/2004

what a funky cool atmosphere without the attitude! the staff is friendly and knowledgeable and most importantly super fresh sushi to die for. they have daily specials for the more adventourous types as well as some of the most creative rolls. this looks to become one of my fav sushi spots in the city. Pros: creative sushi, helpful staff more

Great sushi 4/5/2004

This place is a hip, happenin space, and was a great night of fun. Great sashimi, fun drinks, and good, informed servers made our experience just right. The atmosphere and music has a mellow energy. Not overbearing at all. Would recommend to friends. more

worth driving to 7/30/2003

I'm a sushi lover, and I make a point of checking out the sushi places around SF. Tsunami is up there, with the hamano's and ebisu's and kabuto's. Let's hope it sustains this in the long run. I was a little afraid first, as the chefs were gaijins. But they do know their stuff, and they have this cool laid back attitude. And they love what they do. The specials are interesting (but misnamed: a tsunami nachos did not appeal to me until I saw it on a plate, and there was fish and no chips involved) and quite tasty. The two chefs do all the work, even deep frying the tempura'd crab or shrimp. Even though, the flow is good. No complain about the ingredients, all first quality. more

awesome! 6/8/2003

Food is great. Drinks are great. Staff is great. I live close by so I eat here quite a bit. The sushi is always very fresh and the staff is very attentive. They usually have great spacials so be sure to try a few!! more

My new sushi hangout xellent place 5/31/2003

The food is A class. Their prices are reasonable in comparison to other same standrad sushi joints like this one. What they got for them is an awsome design, it is a drinking bar yet a sushi resturant. The cafe next door is beutifull, never been there before, I waited there till I got my table. The staff were all natural, they were not trying too hard and all came across very well. I chated with the host who sat me down in the cafe' and I loved what he told me they were trying to do..it works Pros: Beautifull place, great food, nice service Cons: no sign, difficult parking more
