Traveller's: an amazing place that just keeps getting better 1/7/2009

ok, i read the review from seattlenewbie and i totally understand what happened. I think a little explanation is in order. For many years Traveller's has been THE best source for herbs, clothing, books, and other miscellanities of life elsewhere on the planet. The owner has spent a lot of time in India, but other parts of asia, as well as south america and the Caribbean are represented. Pros: Parking, knowledgable sales staff, community atmosphere, delicious Thalia more

Arrogance or a bad day? 11/23/2008

Arrogance or a just bad day? I went in recently to buy some spices. Instead of the warm and friendly atmosphere that has earned Travelers its reputation, I got a cold vibe from the staff. There was no eye contact or greeting from Leon and the rest of the staff members made themselves appear busy. Although an attendant helped me find an item, it seemed apparent that I had bothered them by walking into their store that evening. I asked the attendant if they carried a particular Indian snack, and she in turn asked Leon. His response? A dismissive equivalent of a duh, everything they had was out there. Not even their great chai could help me overcome this taste of bad service. Truth be told, there are other locales in the Greater Seattle area that carry twice as many items at half the cost of Travelers. I've supported the establishment because I applaud Leon and Allen's initiative, knowledge, and taste. But I wonder if complacency is making Travelers arrogant or if it was just a bad day at this Capitol Hill spice store. I'd love to be wrong on this one. Pros: Quality Cons: Attitude more
