The times they are a changing 9/8/2014

I have read the reviews that were posted years ago. As the title says, the times they are a changing. I have been buying from Trailboss for several years now. I have never had a bad experience with Gary, his wife, Frank, Mike, or any of the rest of the staff. The entire crew has a large body of knowledge about firearms and accessories. Even though I have a body of knowledge, I am still learning after all these years. The staff has been courteous and willing to discuss the ins/outs and pros/cons of various firearms. They treat everybody with respect. In other stores, the staff has ignored my wife or daughter and responded only to me. This does not happen at Trailboss. I regularly recommend Trailboss to people that ask about getting firearms. These people have come back and remarked on the excellent service they have gotten. If you had a bad time in the past, you may want to try Trailboss again. more

Stay away from this place 3/10/2012

Terrible service. I went into the store knowing a bit about what I was looking for, and yet one of the jarheads behind the counter informed me that I wanted "a real caliber, like .45 ACP". Thanks buddy, like I havn't had the stopping power conversation 1,000 times already. When I did find a pistol I wanted, it seemed to be marked up about 20% higher than other gun stores. When I asked if there was anything they could do about the price, the guy huffed and said something along the lines of "Well when you come in here more than once then the discount becomes possible". Some people seem to think this is standard procedure. It shouldn't be. Needless to say I didn't buy that day or any other day, I went 10 minutes down the road to Chosin and got a discount that day. Guess where I spend all my firearms budget now? You guessed it, the guys at Chosin who treat you with respect and have real, practical knowledge about serving a wide variety of customers with their firearms needs. more

Shocked at all of the negative comments. 7/18/2011

Wow @ all of the bad eperiences/negative comments. I have to admit that I have only visited Trail Boss a handful of times since moving into the area, but each and everytime thus far has been a very good experience! I met Gary (the owner) and I believe his wife who sometimes works behind the counter on my very first visit. She actually sold me my Glock 19 (LEO/Military Glock) at a price that couldn't be beat! In fact they had probably a half dozen workers working that night behind the counter and all of the interaction that I witnessed between employees and customers almost gave the impression of one big collective family. There was laughing and joking between employee/customer mixed with an excellent customer service attitude that in all created a very relaxing/at ease atmosphere. They took as much time as I needed patiently answering any and all questions/concerns I had regarding my Glock 19 purchase...not once did I feel rushed. If anything I guess much, if not most of the ne more

Trail Boss...more like Fail Boss 4/23/2011

I recently bought a Glock Model 22 .40. Went into trail boss to see about getting a left handed holster, since I shoot southpaw. Nothing of the sort in stock. They told me they would order one for me from the manufacturer, but couldn't give me a specific time for receiving it. This was after i put down $20 on the holster. This was a month ago. Shoddy, and shady. I do recommend either Chosin Guns, or the GUNS store right next door. Both located in Whetstone by R.V. City. Decently priced, and super friendly. Support these businesses, they deserve it and it is completely worth the drive. more

Highly Recommend! **10% MILITARY DISCOUNT** 5/22/2010

I have had nothing but great experiences every time we go to Trail boss. My girlfriend and I are stationed down here and we just got our CCW permits. Anyways the Owner sold my girlfriend her 1st semi auto for CCW, and his wife gave her a free box of 9mm that she personally liked best. He ordered a custom shoulder rig for her that she requested and while waiting for it to be sent, the owner gave us a holster to try out for free to see if we liked it or not. I got a great deal on a Remington 1100 too. I definitely recommend this shop over all the others in the area. Friendly Staff! And great hours. more

Wont go back unless I have to 3/29/2010

Very condescending, very arrogant. As nice as the shop is, the employees are jerks. Gee, Im sorry I do not spend all my time learning about every single firearm. but that doesnt mean Im not interested. more

I've had mixed experiences at Trail Boss Outfitters. At times, the staff provides good, friendly customer service. At other times, I just walk out of the store. I've had several "discussions" with them over firearms and accessories because their information was not factual. If you disagree with them, they become almost hostile. Ex: I brought an AR15 upper in to see if they could permanently affix a flash suppressor to make the upper an overall length of 16." This is the ATF requirement to mate with a non-registered lower. They were very angry I even asked for such a service, telling me that I had a Class 3 weapon and the upper was illegal! B.S. They have an opportunity to be a premier gunshop. I hope they can admit their failings and get it together. more

The place to go 1/7/2010

Trail Boss is a great shop filled with friendly and helpfull individuals. It sounds to me like most of the people that are dissatisfied with the shop had their feeling hurt because the knowledgeable service they provide made them feel like they were children. It is their job to evaluate a customers needs and make informative suggestions, this is what they do. They don't know what your looking for so you have to tell them, just like any other store. If you are new to fire arms, or a seasoned marksman, this is the place to go. If you have an ego, and don't like intelligent, friendly advice given by intelligent, freindly people, then mabe go somewhere the people selling you guns will be impressed with your own knowledge. more

Not worth the hassle 8/18/2009

I recently tried to do an FFL transfer through these clowns, only to be blown off. I had avoided the store for over a year after poor service, but tried to give it a second chance. Their attitude was to do it the way they want, or go somewhere else. I understand gun laws, having worked in a gun store in college, and quite a bit about guns. I don't know it all, but these guys will tell you they do...just ask them. Clowns, I'm done wasting my time on this overpriced, unprofessional operation. more

Worth a look 7/20/2009

I have been shopping at Trail Boss for a number of years now and am very happy with them. The owner Gary supports the military as best as a small buisiness can. I go to the right arm night every month and they are there giving guns and prizes away to soldiers. I don't see anyone else in town doing that. As far as the staff being rude...the old Mike can be every once in awhile but he's a old retired CW4 what do you expect. You can count on him for any firearm relic question you can think of though. The young guys on the weekend are awesome and always help me even when there's like fifty people in there. My wife even likes going in there to shop with me. Those of you that were unhappy with this store probably wouldn't be happy anywhere you shopped. Their prices are less than Cabelas in PHX on most stuff. (and if you don't believe me spend the $80 in gas to try and prove me wrong) more

Trail Boss Outfitters is good in my book 7/5/2009

I just moved here from NC and the selection here and there are comparable. I was always disappointed in NC so i would have to purchase guns in my home state. I immediately felt at home at trail boss. They offered me coffee before i even started to look at guns. I was helped by a older gentleman and if you are a light skinned pansy who should live in San Francisco don't talk to him. If you are a man continue talking because that's the way men are. So after looking and holding and fingering almost ever semi auto pistol they had, i told them i still haven't made up my mind. He told me to go to other shops and look. I wish i hadn't because they all suck. Anyway, i came back a few days later with my wife and 3 year old. They didn't even bat an eye when my 3 year old started to get a little board. So i made up my mind went with a Glock 21. The ONLY problem i had is i only planned to put some money down at first and then come back and pay it off ( i have the money but need it done more

Its all good 6/28/2009

I've been there twice now. The first time the owner went out of his way to help me when honestly I just wanted to look around. He was very nice and helpful. The second time I went, it was half an hour before closing time and one of the younger guys went out of his way to explain things to me up until closing time. I think some of you sensitive sally's need to chill out and quit crying that they didn't change your diaper for you. Some of the guns are more expensive, some of them are less. This is Sierra Vista! What kind of deals are you expecting? Bunch of Mary's! more

Consistently pleased with Trail Boss. 5/3/2009

While Trail Boss is consistently busy, I've never had a time that I've come in that they haven't had the time and patience to share their expertise and answer all my questions thoroughly. As a woman, I feel comfortable in the shop--they had good suggestions for a concealed carry piece, and I wasn't treated as some fluffy, little thing who would be best off with a mouse-gun or a can of seasoning spray. They listened to what my reasons for carrying were, what my level of experience was, and made their suggestions accordingly. I've been really pleased with the gun they helped me to select. I never felt pressured by the sales-staff, and they were patient with my slow pace.\r I was so pleased with the experience, that I've sent a lot of friends and relatives their way. And, I've heard nothing but positive feedback from them as well.\r Between my husband and I, we've purchased three guns from Trail Boss, and I'm intending to return to purchase a fourth. Their prices are very good. We paid abou more

The Right Shop 5/1/2009

I've been shopping at trail boss for over 7 years... never have I felt ripped off, cheated, or up sold... things my trailboss experiences have helped me avoid at other gun shops in southeast AZ. Gray and the staff are straight shooters who tell you how it is, they don't sugar coat it. That might come off as stand-off'ish or aloof, but I'd readily take the advice of 100s of years of gun experience that resides behind the counter most days at lunch time. Unlike other shops who will try to increase their profit by selling a lower quality product, trailboss only carries high quality firearms. And when you come in with a list of what you are looking for your new gun to do, they will find the right gun for you, and not push to get more gun then you need. more

Local Gun Store Worth Supporting 4/23/2009

I agree with the other reviewer who said that these guys are good, but not perfect. I've bought a rifle and two pistols there. As some people have said, the younger guys are very approachable and so is the owner, Gary. Josh and young Mike have both helped me out a lot with making purchase decisions. I've dealt with some of the older guys, they didn't seem as standoffish as other people have said (Ben and old Mike). I've only been in on the weekends/evenings though. When I was buying my pistols, I was in the store for 2 hours. I handled a lot of different pistols, although I had an idea of what I wanted. Almost everyone working in the store helped me out a bit, and all where great to talk with. \r \r Remember that they tend to get slammed on Saturdays. That's when the most help is there, and most of the younger guys are working (who most people consider the best to deal with). However, you won't be the only customer in the store so they'll likely hand you what you want to look at more

Rip Off 4/13/2009

I bought a new Ruger SR9 and picked it up Thursday, I cleaned it and went to shoot it Friday, it would not eject the fired rounds. I got new ammo, same problem, so I took it back that day and they looked at it and said it was a burr that they fixed (that might or might not be the problem) and it was better, but what they did was cover it with oil, so I said I wanted my money back. They charged me a $25.00 restocking fee, and the only way I could get my money back was to redeposit it to my debit card, that was two pm Friday afternoon, it is now Monday afternoon and I still don't have my money back. more

Gun activist 4/12/2009

I purchase a weapon from Trail Boss before and was not really pleased with the service given to me but since they are one of few gun stores in the greater Sierra Vista area I thought I would give them the benefit of buying local in searching for a Beretta PX$ Storm 45 ACP. I have prices it all over the Internet and in Tucson and the average price is around $550 to $675. Trail Boss quoted me at $930. For a previous customer I find that price outrageous. I do not feel that I would ever spend my money in the establishment again. I hope you all will consider their over priced ideas or sticking it to the locals. more

Do Not Support Their Business! 2/24/2009

So I read all the reviews on this store and thought I'd go see for myself yesterday afternoon. I was pretty disappointed after being in there less than 2 minutes. The staff is very lazy and standoffish. If you want something you pretty much have to hold their hand and ask about every little thing you are interested in. I was looking at a handgun and the guy "Bill" didn't even want to give me the time of day. I'm pretty knowledgeable about firearms and so it's a good thing I wasn't relying on his comments but when I went to asked about the price ( which was $160 overpriced...asked $675!! for an XD .40) I asked if they are firm for if they are willing to go down and the guy shrugged and walked away on me.... talk about unprofessional...DO NOT SUPPORT THESE GUYS .... Being Military I see their main business is selling overpriced guns to naive Service members. more

Trail Boss Outfitters- Ugh! 2/23/2009

Spent over $700.00 in their store. Bought two rifles. Called on a Saturday and asked if I could get a couple scopes mounted and bore sighted. I was told to show up first thing on Monday morning. I hauled my guns down there. Only customer in the store. I was told that sales came first and as they had 35 sales a day they had no time to work on my rifles. 10 minute job mind you. (It is a free service to mount scopes on rifles purchased at the store.)If my guns had to be kept over night they said the paperwork required would present to much of a hassle for them.. I was given the bums rush out of the store. They gave me a number of a gunsmith across town, (who I would have to pay to do the work) but when I called the number was out of service. The "fellas" will take your money but will not provide service if needed or required. That's a sign of a bad store. This was not my first visit to this store. I have to agree with other posters that the vast majority of the staff is preoccupied with u more
