Editorial review from Citysearch 8/29/2013

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Town & Country Montessori School. When my grandson (who lives with me) first attended the school, his behavior was quite a challenge, both at home and at school. In the year and a half that he attended, the school was a wonderful influence on his development of personal responsibility. By the time he “graduated” as a pre-kindergartener, he had progressed academically to a remarkable level of achievement in reading and math. Today he is a second grader in public school in the gifted and talented program. I attribute his success and love of learning to the excellent foundation he received at the school, and to the nurturing atmosphere provided by Ms. Surangi and her dedicated and loving staff (in particular, his guide Ms. Daya). more

A True Montessori School 10/2/2011

I was saddened to see the review " Terrible School." I feel its imperative to speak for a school that has nurtured and prepared my children in a very positive and amazing way. While no school is perfect, our experience at Town and Country Montessori was wonderful! Town and Country Montessori has been a part of our lives for several years. Two of our children were guided, nurtured and loved by Ms. Surangi and our third child attended Town and Country while Ms. Surangi was a director. They have developed academically and socially with respect and an appreciation for diversity and culture. Town and Country Montessori has prepared all of our children for a smooth transition from Montessori to the next level. more

TERRIBLE SCHOOL 9/14/2011

Absolutely awful. I agree with the person above - and in addition the staff are not nurturing AT ALL. Not what Montessori is about. In fact, there is a very high teacher turn over rate. Not a good sign. They are always hiring help and there is never a wait list (so if you don't mind that, then send your child here), which means no one wants to go here!! The director is NEVER available - she's always in a "meeting" (turns out she wheels and deals and is banking in on the Montessori name). Had my son there for one month only and was not happy at all with the facility. It's dirty and crowded and loud. Put him in another Montessori school (an AMS accredited one) and he and I are MUCH happier. This school should be shut down. more

Best school experience ever! 4/20/2011

My five year old daughter has gone to Town and Country for a year after being in a different preschool. The difference in the education she is getting is amazing. She is reading, doing math up through multiplication, is learning sign language and is learning about the world around her and her place in it. What she is getting is priceless. Her teachers have fostered a love of learning that will carry through her academic career. I love that the school is not just about ABC's and 123's. The school is culturally diverse and the kids learn about the world not just a small portion of it. I would highly recommend Town and Country to any parent wanting to give their child the best educational start possible. I just started my 21 month old twins there. more

Great teachers 6/11/2010

My child has been attending Town and Country Montessori for almost a year now. She absolutely loves her teachers and gets excited when we turn into the driveway of the school. Ms. Sharon and Angie are the best, I am so happy they're there. Pros: My child loves the teachers. I feel safe with my child there more

Good Montessori School 6/9/2010

My boy went to Town & Country Montessori School when he was four year old. During his short term, he learned so much on being a responsible citizen, how to prep himself for the next level of public education and the love of learning which can be fun too. He truly enjoyed his days at this school. The principal and teachers are caring, polite and always have the children well being first at heart. \r Pros: Structured, loving and caring. more

Love this school 6/7/2010

Where else does your kid go to school and give each teacher a hug before saying good-bye each day? Not only is the curriculum and teaching outstanding, the love the kids get here is priceless. This is an amazing school with incredibly dedicated teachers. My daughter loves to go to school and looks forward to learning. We can't believe how quickly she has learned!. Both our sons attended this school as well and they are doing so well in middle school thanks to the Montessori foundation that was set. We drive 26 miles each way to get our daughter to school every day, but it's worth it!! more

Stay away from this school if you want your child healthy! 1/24/2010

A Credit to South Austin 10/3/2008

I have had two boys in this school since 2004. While no school can give you everything, this school comes pretty close. Great emphasis on learning for fun. Malcolm was reading at 3! more

Practical Life (teach me to do it myself)
Practical Life exercises are designed to develop the child's physical co-ordination (hand-eye),motor skills, independence and concentration. By learning to perform daily tasks give the child a sense of responsibility,self-worth and confidence, thus an accomplishment which leads to development of character. Some of the activities learned are pouring, spooning, transferring, washing up etc. Courtesy and social graces are also incorporated in this area. Learning to take care of ones self and the environment is a primary goal in Practical life.
    Sensorial
Sensorial Education is fundamental in the intellectual development of the child. The materials provided help to develop the child's sensory-motor capabilities of the five senses. The child becomes more aware of his surrounding by observing the environment more intelligently. The graded activities consist of sequencing, matching, classifying and sorting. Sensorial Education also indirectly prepares the child for other areas of development like reading, language and math.
    Mathematics
A child is introduced to Mathematics after working with the practical life and sensorial activities. Manipulative materials are designed to allow the child to have the hands on experience in order to grasp the concept of quantity.
By having to feel, touch and see a concrete object as opposed to the abstract concept is a great advantage and gives the child a good head start in learning the fundamentals of simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and the decimal system.
    Language and Phonics
Montessori Method of introducing language is by teaching the child the phonetic sounds of the letters. By this approach, the child learns to familiarize with the sounds, then on to word-building,reading,speaking and writing. This system is of a multi-sensory nature, which enhances language development. Mandarin and Spanish are also incorporated into our program.
    Cultural
Children should be given the opportunity to be fully aware of the different facets of the environment and the world. Cultural Education is an activity-based program that covers Geography,History,Botany,Zoology,Science and Nature Study. Creative activities (exercises) allowing exploration and general knowledge is undeniably a welcome addition in giving the child self-worth and confidence to last him a lifetime.
In addition we also conduct the following:
    Creative Art
    Science
    Spanish
    Music
    Yoga
    Soccer
    Dance
    Gymnastics
