Everything was awfull 3/23/2010

A few of us went to this restaurant over the weekend and the four of us agree that none of us will be back. The service (what little we received) was non-existant. We waited a good half hour before our wine came. This after some song and dance about how we could try the wine first. We knew what we wanted and it was rather annoying. I have never been to a restaurant where they did this and found it in poor taste. Next our food. I'm not going to waste words on it. All of the food was mostly untouched. Then the waiter seemed to disappear. Our food sat and we were never asked if things were ok or anything. At one point we flagged another waitress down and get this; she let's out a sigh. We didn't bother with dessert or a second bottle of wine. I was embarrassed for the restaurant and myself for picking what may be the worst restaurant in the south. more

My favorite place 3/19/2010

I am surprised at a few of the reviews because this is my favorite place in Atlanta. I think some were based on wanting quick service and I would agree; your average meal here will last two hours. I would argue that this type of atmosphere is designed for intimate conversations over glasses of wine and food. I find the time enjoyable as we typically have several glasses of wine and appetizers before enjoying our main meal. my husband and I go or we will have another couple (sometimes two couples) join us. Its a very intimate setting and you can spend time conversing and laughing together. We have always enjoyed ourselves and the service. Do they come up every five minutes asking questions, no, but I would not want them to either. If my glass is empty they always refill it and if our plates have been eaten, they clear the dishes. They seem to know when we are ready to order - drinks/meal/desert in a timely fashion. In my opinion, I think that is what makes eating there enjoyable. I would recommend eating here on special occasions or on date nights or times when you want to converse with your friends or family. its perfect for times when you do not want to be rushed or feel pressured to leave. I also like it here because of their wine menu; it is VERY extensive - they switch out the menu quarterly and have a wine board that selects great wines. They allow you to test out several samples before selecting a wine. I have never had a bad dish - I would recommend the baked goat cheese served in phyllo crust as an appetizer and the tuna served rear for the main course. Lastly, they provide freshly baked muffins as ""to-go"" bags for you to take for the next morning. Nice touch. Again, I could see how different expectations might, but its perfect for us and our friends. My husband and I eat there every two months or so - its a special restaurant and I think most would enjoy it if they are looking for a place with exceptional wine, great food and an environment where you can be relaxed and enjoy time with friends and family. Pros: Intimate, Relaxing, Wonderful Food and WINE more

Not worth a visit 2/20/2010

The food was bad. The horseradish dipping sauce for potato Gorgonzola fritters was very bland and did nothing to cut the fried fatty feeling. The sauce for mushroom ravioli on the other hand had too much vinegar in it. If not for the fact that it took almost 45 minutes between the appetizer and main course, I would not have even had the second bite of of ravioli. On top of that, the service was awful with all the waiters crowding around at the open kitchen waiting for the food and not even asking for wine refills / water. Overall a bad experience. This will be my first and only visit to this place. They gave us a discount for delay only after pointing it out (they told us they will before the main course came). Not worth a visit. Pros: Good atmosphere Cons: food, service more

Lovely, quiet place 4/30/2009

I love coming back to this restaurant over and over again. The staff is courteous. The food portions are not only delicious but also very generous. The wine list is extensive, and you can taste most of the wines before ordering a glass. Steve Penley's paintings adorn the walls, which creates a warm and inviting environment. Pros: Great wine list and large portions Cons: it's hard to find the first time more

what a hole 4/14/2009

A friend of mine and i had dinner at this bistro. It was the worst food and service i have ever had. Now i know why we were among the few people in the place. I will never go again and will be sure to tell others. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Charming Buckhead Bistro 4/6/2009

Tucked away on Peachtree near Peachtree Battle, Toulouse is an atmospheric romantic bistro. Beautiful bold paintings hang from the walls and an open kitchen add to the charm. My wife raved over the Tuna and I enjoyed the pork loin-- both were exceptional. I was impressed with the waiters ability to perfectly pair our wine with our food and our preferences. We will definitely be going back. Pros: extensive wine list, romantic atmosphere more

Shocked by the latest reviews 12/17/2008

I have been to Toulouse about once a year for the past ten years, and have never had a bad experience. The last time I dined here was about 2 weeks ago, and I will say that every meal ordered here has always been above expectation. The food and service have never failed me, although I can't speak for everyone. I would highly recommend giving this place a chance. The only cons I have is that the place isn't always packed with customers, probably because it's hidden on the back side of a building by the Imperial Fez. However, this has not kept me from coming back. Don't let the last few reviews fool you, this place is an absolute hidden gem. Pros: Great Food, Amazing Wine Selection, European Ambiance Cons: The ambiance may lack at times more

TO LOSE 6/22/2008

Lost our reservation and ruined our Valentine's Day 2/14/2008

Is the food good? Probably. We won't be finding out, though. We made a reservation by phone for Valentine's Day a month ahead of time. I called today, which is Valentine's Day, to confirm it, and they had nothing. It was completely lost, and the guy acted like I was lying. Their food may be good, but they've ruined our day. We go out about twice a year, and now our Valentine's Day is completely ruined. more

Horrible Service 1/19/2007

I have never experienced worse service for below average food. For one, I could never get my water glass refilled. Then at one point during the night a member of my party spilled his glass of water. A waitress was standing right there watching then walked away. I thought for sure to get a mop or a rag or something...but no, she never returned. Nobody helped us clean up. Then when 5 of our napkins had been used to soak up the water and ice, we asked for new napkins. The waiter was gave us new napkins with a role of the eyes and a sigh of having to work. Meanwhile, our used napkins lay wadded up on the floor, where they stayed until after we left. All in all, I do not feel I will ever return. Cons: Service, food more

A Wonderful Valentines Surprise 2/14/2006

I was taken to a surprise location, one I had never been to before. This was a fabulous restaurant! The menu is pretty short but has everything you need. About 5-6 appetizers, including 2 salads. The menu had pork, lamb shank, fillet, grilled chicken, a vegetable plate, trout, and of course --ta da --Buffalo Meatloaf. I was intriqued and ordered the meatloaf. I was excellant. Included with the meatloaf were mashed potatoes-excellant, and stirfry mushrooms--awesome. The have an amazing selection of wine and homemade sorbet. Overall an amazing experience and value. Pros: intimate, open kitchen, great for dates more

Hidden Gem 2/8/2005

I've never submitted a restaurant review, but was compelled to after having been to Toulouse. Everything from the ambience and atmosphere to the high quality service and food made our visit a great experience. If your looking for a moderately quiet out-of-the-way, off-the-beaten-path for a low key dinner, this is it. Nothing to ostentatious. Ironically, it's right on Peachtree near Peachtree Battle. I must have passed it a hundred times without noticing it. Pros: Food Portions, Well-Priced, Ambience more

Am I in Paris? 3/31/2003

Our first visit to Toulouse was a terrific experience and we will be back soon. The top three things we look for in a restaurant are: 1.) the food, 2.) the food, and 3.) the food. This place delivers on all three. The excellent service and pleasant atmosphere were a bonus. You will think you have been transported to a neighborhood restaurant in Paris the place where the locals eat. It is an excellent value and we especially liked the fact that every menu entree has a wine suggestion by-the-glass. That made for a perfect wine pairing with our meal. Pros: Food, Value, Wine Pairing more

A Native Atlantan's Favorite 12/31/2002

Well, being that I must have passed this place 1,000 growing up in Atlanta, what a pleasant surprise it was to find out that it's quite possibly one of the best restaurants in the city. From the Grilled Scottish Salmon with Braised Cabbage to the Sauteed Pork Loin with Apple-Caramel Sauce, this place is not to be missed. The Ambience is just as inviting, with lots of exposed brick and sporting several oversized Steve Penley paintings - this is the place to take a chick you want to impress. Pros: Great Food, Reasonable Prices, Warm Ambience more
