Mark (master mechanic) diagnoses and always takes care of my van's issues. i have recently moved to the bay area and i still drive down to get my van taken care of by top shop. more

The finest auto repair shop 2/14/2011

Top Shop is, quite simply, the finest auto repair shop I have ever been to - and I have been to A Lot! Mark and Willy are crackerjack mechanics who possess a ton of knowledge about my Vanagon, plus they are great guys. Their prices are reasonable, and my car is ALWAYS ready when they say it will be. I have NEVER had to bring my car back to have something redone. Having a bowl of Hershey's Kisses to eat is icing on the cake. more

Great customer service experience 2/7/2011

I was quoted one price before the service was preformed, yet when I went to pick up my car I was asked to pay $50 above the original quote. No one had called to tell me of this change which made me feel like I was being taken advantage of. However, when I asked why I hadn't been told of the increased cost, Willie corrected my bill and gave me a $50 discount even though that promotion had ended days earlier. It was a great customer service experience!!! more

Too much business to care anymore...... 1/31/2011

Like all of the other reviewers here my family and I have received great customer service and high quality work from Top Shop Automotive. However, I recently went there to have a fuel injector o-ring replaced and received terrible service from start to finish. I was told that the o-rings only come with new fuel injectors and was quoted $180 to replace 1 fuel injector and $380 to replace all 4 fuel injectors. I requested that one fuel injector be replaced (I only wanted one o-ring replaced). When the work was completed I went in to pay the bill for one fuel injector and they charged me $373.12. After an argument in which the desk employee shrugged everything off and said ""it's $373.12."" I would never have agreed to the work if I had known that it would cost $373.12. I told them this and they did not care. I needed my car and had no choice but to pay for the work. At this point I went home and inspected my bill and realized that they had the wrong model year for my car and the previous owner's name still on it. I checked my car to make sure that they had installed the proper injector for my car (injector electrical plugs are different colors) when I noticed that one of the gaskets was not seated properly. I went in to the shop and was told that they had appointments for Monday that needed to be completed before they could get to my car; I was a (previous) Friday appointment that was not completed properly. There was no urgency; no ""we'll fix that right away;"" only ""we'll get to it when we get to it."" At this point I (finally) met an actual mechanic. Their attitude was that of ""we’ll get that fixed, but we have a lot of appointments to get through today. Fuel injector replacement is a lot more expensive than $180; nobody would do an injector replacement for $180."" If I knew what the cost would be I wouldn’t need a quote now would I? Finally, after chewing out the mechanic; he finally agreed to get the car in and ""look at it."" The gasket was reseated and I was given a half-hearted apology and a $40 gift card to Top Shop Automotive that I will never use. Misquoted price aside, what should have happened: 1) ""We're extremely sorry that the work was not completed properly. We'll get you in and take a look at that ASAP."" 2) ""We're very sorry that the work was not completed properly; let me give you a $40 partial-refund for the inconvenience."" more

I requested to be towed 100 miles 1/24/2011

I would (and have) highly recommend Top Shop. Everyone is extremely friendly and explains what needs to be done in a way that's easy to understand. They do NOT 'oversell' but are very honest with what needs to be done. I know that my cars run as well as they do because of the work done here. I requested to be towed 100 miles back to Top Shop because I trust their service. more

The staff is great to work with, honest & I trust their prices. The only time I don't use Top Shop is when they don't offer a service that I need or I need something that I don't have time to schedule or it is on a Saturday and I can't wait. more
