Poor customer service--Don't go! You will not like the staff 1/23/2011

The front desk staff and the manager seldom answer the phone and are extremely rude and short when trying to solve a problem. You cannot speak to your stylist to schedule or discuss any changes. They will charge your card immediately for missing an appointment even if the error is on their side. What they don't realize is that there is a hair salon on every corner in Atlanta and no has to put up with their behavior. more

My hair was damaged here!!!!!! 12/21/2010

First of all, the lady who washed my hair broke my hair as she washed it. I could hear my hair tearing and breaking. She wash washing my hair as if she was attacking a lion. After that, I was left sitting for 30 minutes with wet hair. No one told me why I was waiting, or why my hair dresser left me sitting. Then a random guy came up to blow dry my hair, and gave me no explanation...nothing. Then the lady doing my hair, ran the blow dryer again after the guy did it, she was rough as can be. She had no reverence for my hair. she did not care that she was damaging my hair. My hair was limp and heat damaged. It smelled like burned goat skin and the burnt smelled was so overpowering I had to wash out my 95 dollars of dissapointment the same day and my hair did not revert back to normal. My hair was washed in cold water and The trim I got was really bad, and uneven. They never apologized for the cold water, they never apologized for having me sit for 30 minutes with wet hair. Nothing. Now I have to nurse my hair back to health because of the negligence i experienced in the hand of a too groovy hair dresser. Not saying all of them are, just that the hairdressers you hire reflect on the business as a whole. Never again. Be careful who you let handle your natural hair. Not all hair dressers understand how to handle it. Too Groovy needs to be careful about who they appoint as natural hair specialists because the hair dresser I got was far from it. more

AWEFUL Client Service 9/29/2010

The Stylist I've been to are great - Parrissa, DeMaris, & Danny - but the customer service at the front desk is AWEFUL. Reminds me alot of the the type of service I use to get a NSEYA....look what happened to them. I would recommend going to Barrons of London in Buckhead (Diana Pagan is my stylist). She does naturals gets you in and out and the staff at that salon is friendly & professional....and the prices are reasonable. more

Fantastic service 8/9/2010

This is THE place to go if your hair is natural and you are looking for the best treatment for your hair. I usually get my hair steamed my hair for maybe fifteen minutes and that leaves my hair silky soft, my only concern was the high heat of the blow dryer. I often tell my mother this is where i would get my hair done for the wedding. more

Never again! Let me start by letting you know up front that if they cancel your appointment-your best bet is to be a psychic! Even after I showed & read the CONFIRMATION email they sent to me(not the cancellation email)to the ""receptionist""- not ONCE did he apologize,& not once did he offer to reschedule me. When I made my appointment, they told me I was already in the system since my first & only visit to this salon in 2007. It is NOT my job to update their system & they never asked me when I made the appointment. They insisted repeatedly they sent the cancellation, even though I'm standing there READING what they sent to me. He says:""We also called you on Tuesday.""-3 days b4 appt- and only once did they email me. So, I verified the number they called - it was wrong! I STILL haven't heard an apology, and I STILL wasn't asked if I'd like to reschedule. I went through hell getting there to be received as though it was MY fault that they cancelled! At a minimum, they could've scheduled me with someone else and let me decide if that's okay. Once I got home, I called to speak with a manager. I was given the ""receptionist""! Turns out he was the so-called asst mgr,Jamal,& he proceeds to tell me he checked their outbox & they sent me the cancellation. REALLY??!! Is that STILL all I get to hear as the PAYING CUSTOMER who was actually going to make this a WEEKLY VISIT?! Black salons need to get it together! A real biz would've been glad to see my loyalty in returning after 3 years.CLEARLY, they have ALL the business they THIS economy. Pros: Wouldn't know... Cons: AWFUL customer service when THEY are at fault! more

Relaxed Hair 2/23/2010

My appointment was for 6:00. However, when I arrived I had to wait approximately 45 minutes before being called.. I must say that my time is very important and I did not appreciate the wait. My hair is relaxed and was washed and blowed dry... not good for relaxed hair. Well, by the time I was a through, I must say the style was nice, but my hair was hard and felt dry. Not soft and silky... I was not impressed... and with the $55.00 price tag decided that this was not the salon for me. I will continue my search for a good salon... with good customer service. Pros: Chic Salon Cons: Hair Hard and Dry more

What A Difference! 11/30/2009

First let me say that I am VERY particular about my hair. The condition of my hair, the way it is handled by a stylist, the way it is cut...are all very important to me. I made a decision to discontinue my use of relaxers because my hair cannot handle both relaxers and color (color is becoming more important as gray hair continues to show up). I read about Too Groovy and decided to call for an appointment. I asked the receptionist to refer someone who was good at cutting hair. She gave me a list of stylists and I chose Parissa. Let me just say that my 1st experience was wonderful! I had steam therapy and a hair cut. I walked out of the salon and as soon as I arrived at my next destination, the compliments woman even guessed that I went to TOO GROOVY- WOW! My hair bounced, behaved and had a natural shine that I'd never experienced. I've been back once more and the compliments continue (while on vacation in Miami a caucasian woman even took a picture of my hair to go back and show her stylist!). I don't usually write reviews but I know how helpful they can be. Take it from me (a clients who is hard to please) that Parissa at Too Groovy does a great job! I now have standing appointments with her. The salon will tell you that all of their stylists do a great job but I am not one to have different people doing my hair each week. I plan to have some color in the next few weeks so I will write an update afterwards. I hope this is helpful :) more

Make sure you're not tender headed 11/25/2009

I went to too groovy last night, as a last minute appointment. When It came time to comb and dry my hair, I thought I was a rag doll. Natasha was rough, which made my experience not pleasant at all. I ask her to be gentle, but it didn't appear to make a diffence to her. I'm not even going to repeat her response. Pros: great stylist Cons: not considerate more

Fantastic Experience - Will Definitely Return 11/9/2009

Too Groovy salon exceeded my expectations! I'll just rattle off everything I loved about it: 1) The shampooist greeted me on time; 2) Everyone in the salon was friendly, approachable and professional; 3) My stylist, Parissa, didn't push the steam treatment even though I thought I might need it - she had enough integrity to tell me my hair was healthy enough without it; 4) Parissa is a wizard with the scissors - she gave me EXACTLY the cut I asked for; 5) Every client I saw had a head of healthy hair (short or long) and now I do too! I only wish they had a location in Dallas (where I live) but until then, I'll be visiting Atlanta every 3 months or so to get my 'do taken care of. Kudos to Too Groovy! Pros: Skilled stylists, friendly/polite staff, started on time! Cons: I don't live in Atlanta :-( more

Best I've been to in a LONG Time! 10/4/2009

I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Too Groovy Salon! I asked someone where she gets her hair done and she said Too Groovy in Atlanta. Her hair was beautiful! Healthy, shiny, and full of body. I don't live in Atlanta, but based on the look and feel of her hair, a road trip was definitely in order. Pros: Professional, Courteous, Knowledgeable Staff Cons: they aren't in my city! more

Great Salon for people who want to learn to love their hair! 8/27/2009

I've been going to Too Groovy Salon every week for almost a year now. While I started going for the professional atmosphere, I continue to go because I finally realized how important my hair is to me. When I started at this salon, I had a perm which I?d had all my life. Some months and years with my perm were good with my hair growing well but there would always come a period in time when I would suddenly have a bout with breakage. Was it my diet? Was it because I?d been wearing my hair pulled back? Was it because of stress? I never knew the reason but I?d always feel that sinking feeling knowing how long it was going to take to get my hair back in shape. In comes Tehira who showed me the benefits for me of going natural. At the beginning I fought with her, never wanting her to cut too much of the perm. I even argued that this ?natural? business which in the beginning I called ?nappy? was a game! And then, it happened. I finally saw the beauty of my natural hair. I saw my edges fill in, I saw my hair get thicker, I saw my hair beautiful and manageable when it?s wet and I feel the feeling of no longer worrying about breakage. So, if you want a quick do, go anywhere. If you want a real change for your hair and how you feel about it, go to Too Groovy. The stylists there are funny like Courtney, quiet like Tehira, sophisticated like Lavonne, skilled like Danny and sassy like LeShon but they all have in common that they truly care about the condition of your hair. You may not been in agreement but your hair will always be the better. Pros: great stylists, warm and friendly atmosphere Cons: now only 1 location more

Price is not ""Groovy"" at all 8/17/2009

Well.... I read reviews on all the websites about this place. They were all great ( of course ) Pros: ambience. Great at hustling you out of your money Cons: Everything else more

Too Groovy 5/19/2009

After numerous years of severe hair issues resulting from relaxers and color, and a recommendation from a family friend to try going natural via Too Groovy's magical touch, I gave them a try. I called Monday morning and was able to get a next day appointment at my time of choosing. The salon is easily accessible off of Ponce and has street as well as validated garage parking. The salon is beautifully decorated in ultra chic and trendy decor which adds to the great atmosphere. The staff readily greeted me when I entered, my stylist was waiting for me at the receptionist desk, and I immediately felt welcome. I really like how she did not immediately begin doing my hair eager to rush me out and took the time to consult with me, explain the natural process, and ask if I had any questions. The shampoo was great, with the chairs being almost upright so you don't have to strain your neck leaning backwards. I opted for a hydrating steam treatment to help with my breakage/shedding/lack of moisture problem. The style came out great and it is a huge improvement from when I first arrived at the salon. Gradually, I will cut all the relaxed hair off. Something I noticed was how EVERY client that was in there had beautiful, long, luscious hair. I had to ask my stylist do they do extensions or is this the real deal. She assured me healthy hair is their speciality, they don't do relaxers or anything, and that with patience my hair can look like that too. Now, while I do think they are over-priced and a strain on my student budget, I am going to give it a few months and see if I see some results. The service was excellent and if I had to have a con, it would be that a lot of the stylist had multiple clients at one time and would go back and forth betweent the clients meaning you or the other client would have to wait 15 minutes or so back and forth until she got caught up. This could be solved with better appointment setting by the receptionist and the stylist sticking to schedule or calling and telling the next client she is running behind. Pros: Great atmosphere, service, and hair feels wonderful Cons: Stylist was juggling multiple clients at a time more

An Unprofessional Experience 4/25/2009

I've been a client for several months now at Too Groovy (Lenox Location). I scheduled a permanent color six weeks in advanced and on the day I went to my appointment the receptionist says, ""Oh I meant to call you, we don't have the color in for your appt"". If you schedule a color MAKE SURE they have it at this location. No one called me in advanced, that could have called me to spare my time and gas driving to the Buckhead location. I really felt as if they didn't care...its like the mentally is..""We have so many clients, so deal with it."" I'm debating if I should continue to go there because this incident made me feel like just another head of them. Pros: Great press, style, volume and Shine Cons: Customer Service, advance notice more

Another Location 12/11/2008

My friend Betty and I visited Too Groovy shop on Tara Blvd in Lovejoy. A great location with plenty of parking. The staff is friendly and warm if yoy live in the area or if you don't mind the drive (30 minutes) give them a visit. What a great experience, Sir Elliott did our hair on a rainy day. (my husband loves it too). I have a perm and was really surprised how soft and silky my hair is. Betty has natural hair and it did not revert back in all the rain. This was our first trip we can't wait for the next visit. Pros: Sir Elliott more

Great Hair Experience! 9/19/2008

I called Too Groovy Salon and Spa in Midtown after reading the great reviews and hearing the same. I explained to the receptionist that I had naturally curly hair with color and needed someone who could really do well with curly, fine, colored hair. She recommended I come in and have a consultation with SHEENA who is known at the salon for doing great hair but most importantly GREAT COLOR. I met with her and felt very comfortable with following up with a hair appt. SHEENA did not dissappoint me! She was able to match my roots to the exact shade it needed to be. My hair was washed, well conditioned and styled. She did a great blow-out and flat ironed it to perfection. I am sold on ""Too Groovy""! more

I loved it here! A bit pricey but worth it in my opinion. Sheena was great in letting me know what i needed for my hair. I have lived in Atlanta for a little over 2 yrs and have been natural for about 3, this place is great for me and my hair! Go see them, at least until your hair is where you want it to be. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Price more

What a difference! 9/20/2007

I started going to Too Groovy (Lenox location) in July 2007. At the time, my hair was very damage around the hairline and shedding big time. Now, with the help of Deanna (she is great!), I am getting a lot of compliments from women and men, black and white! With not having a relaxer since May 2007, my hair is at its best!!! I would have never thought about not getting a relaxer, but Deanna has proven to me that I really don't need one for my hair to be healthy. When I leave there, my hair is just so bouncy and lively. My hair has been through a vacation to the Dominican, hot Atlana weather and still is bone straight WITHOUT putting a relaxer in my hair. I am looking forwad to not having any relaxed hair, so I can do the natural wave and loose curls that my hair is capable of doing! Pros: Everything is great! Haven't had a bad visit yet! Cons: None that I can think of more

Great Customer Service! 12/5/2006

I think I finally found my hair niche. I have been to over 15 salons in Atlanta since I moved here in 1999. Some salons specialized only in African American hair and some specialized in Caucasian hair but did African American hair really well. This salon has won my heart b/c it is completely African American owned and run like a well oiled machine. I am always out of there in under 2 hours, everyone in the salon is pleasant and they're not pushy at all trying to sell you products although they only sell top of the line Bumble and Bumble, Design Essentials, Chi, etc., and if I can't get in with my regular stylist they don't mind me switching up from week to week and I don't mind b/c everyone in there is really good. Also the atmosphere is quiet, clean and spa-like with soft music, hot herbal tea and water if you so desire. Pros: Ambience, Customer Service, Great Results Cons: Parking a little confusing (you can park in reserved spots) more
