Toast

We went to Toast at 1pm on a Monday, there were 3 other tables in the restaurant 2 of them had extremly elderly couples the rest of the place was vacant. Our first reaction to the restaurant was that hardly any of the old vilage inn equipment had been renovated, they painted a little and that's it, tables have the same finish, booths are the same fabric & server stations & pie case were all still the ugly old school village inn style. We were saddened by the passing of the Village Inn. Sometimes you just want to have a simple meal of basic American food, and the Village Inn was a nice place to get that. Ok, so the decor at Toast is just like the Village Inn. However, the food is quite excellent! We went for lunch and really enjoyed the food, finding it much better than several other breakfast/lunch/brunch places we've been to recently. I ordered the Grilled Cheese and Pear sandwich, which I found fresh tasting, with crisp veggies and on a tasty roll. My wife greatly enjoyed the Veggie Benedict, and we both found the hollandaise sauce to be smooth and not overpowering. My son enjoyed a burger, and reported that it was savory and that the fries were nicely done. We got a few pancakes, and all decided that the walnut banana ones were the best we'd ever tasted: light, slightly sweet, and fluffy. The service was excellent and the staff was very friendly.
