We were saddened by the passing of the Village Inn. Sometimes you just want to have a simple meal of basic American food, and the Village Inn was a nice place to get that.
Ok, so the decor at Toast is just like the Village Inn. However, the food is quite excellent! We went for lunch and really enjoyed the food, finding it much better than several other breakfast/lunch/brunch places we've been to recently.
I ordered the Grilled Cheese and Pear sandwich, which I found fresh tasting, with crisp veggies and on a tasty roll. My wife greatly enjoyed the Veggie Benedict, and we both found the hollandaise sauce to be smooth and not overpowering. My son enjoyed a burger, and reported that it was savory and that the fries were nicely done.
We got a few pancakes, and all decided that the walnut banana ones were the best we'd ever tasted: light, slightly sweet, and fluffy.
The service was excellent and the staff was very friendly.
We would go back again!
Pros: Solid, tasty food done well
Cons: Decor, it's just like the old Village Inn it replaced
