Awesome movie theatre! 6/2/2006

I went here last night to see the new X-Men (not a bad flick, by the way), and although it's small and kinda warm and dingy, I LOVED it. I am kind of sick of theaters that you get lost in, freeze your butt off in, and have to practically dress up for. This no-frills cinema also serves cheap beer and wine, with of course the standard soft drinks, pretzels, candy, popcorn, nachos, etc., that you'd expect in the theatre, but for several bucks cheaper. They also randomly took a dollar off all our purchases last night, so you can't complain about that...Add good customer service to the list! And I like that it's not too cold in here, because I usually feel like I need to bring in a blanket to the movies. I think they might only have 2 screens, so not much showing at a time, but keep your eye on the schedule and it's worth holding out for the show you want to watch. more

Party Time 5/27/2006

The Three Penny is a unique little theater in the center of Lincoln Park. I went to a private party here for my work where they rented the whole theater. They served all different types of food and drinks. You can get beer at this theater if you want. The people who work here are all cool and quick. A good time out. more

Cool 5/12/2006

This place has fantastic service and amenities. The people who work here are all very willing to help, and when we get down to it... what is better than a theater that sells alcohol. This place is also in the center of a lot of nice restaurants and fun things to do. Have fun and drink responsibly... or not. more

Down-to-Earth Theater 3/26/2006

Down to earth, low-key, no frills. Well with the addition of alcoholic beverages maybe no-frills doesn't apply anymore. They had to do something to save this old run down theater from suffering the fate of so many vintage theaters. Their prices are reasonable and their staff is OK. This place has alot of character and history associated with it. In my opinion they should be a little more selective in the films they choose to run here, but it is hard to please everyone and DePaul's campus is not far away. more

Interesting venue... 3/20/2006

They have some cool stuff going on here besides normal fare video. I went for a midnight showing of a friend's film and the staff was beyond nice. It felt like going to your buddy's place to watch movies. I would recommend it for anyone who likes the more "rustic" experience and the drinks. more

Laid Back Movie Theatre 3/5/2006

Customer service is awesome at this place! I've been there many times and have always been greeted with a smile. I don't drink pop, and the owners have been gracious enough to offer me ice water in a large cup with a straw - which is so rare these days. Their snack prices are also pretty decent, the movie selection very interesting, and they offer discounts to college students with a valid ID . The place isn't as clean as I'd like it to be, but it has a nice artsy relaxed feel and a great crowd. more

Three Penny's Awesome 2/26/2006

The Three Penny Cinema is the first movie theatre outside of Madison, Wisconsin that offers alcoholic beverages and snacks that are...almost resonably priced. I like the Mom and Pop shop attitude the three penny cinema has, the attitude that, "you don't have to come, but we like your business." The movie I saw there (local one, not one of the typically popular independent-cinema favorites like The Squid and the Whale, etc) was bad, but I was impressed with the theatre, as a whole! more

Neighborhood Movies with Cocktails 8/18/2005

This Lincoln Park neighborhood movie theatre has been part of the community for a long time. Although it shows movies that have been around a little while, the location and family friendliness make it a great place to go. Get a pass and save some money. There aren't many independent theatres left in this cineplex world...lets try and keep this one going. more
