Best theatre value in town! 10/28/2002

I've been a regular Twin Cities theatre-goer for eight years, and TRP is my hands-down favorite. Excellent acting and direction are par for the course at TRP. And with the exception of the annual Alan Ayckbourn offering, their play selection is top-notch and gutsy. I've seen shows at TRP that left me either sobbing with laughter or stunned and disturbed, and which the Guthrie would be far too scared to touch. And all this from a community theatre, for a mere $15. Pros: Inexpensive, Quality Productions, Excellent Acting more

Need to Polish the Sterling Rep 5/22/2002

TRP rarely offers true stinkers, but I find that it's sterling reputation is often in question. It is, first and foremost, an amateur theater, and as such, stages some very good theater indeed! However, I have often been disappointed with its productions. Twin Cities critics can be much too kind to TRP, perhaps because such impressive effort goes into the theater's non-professional productions. (The critics should poke their heads out and see that other non- and semi-pro theaters can offer the same or better quality.) I've come to expect over-acting and thrust-stage presentations. (It's ""in the round,"" folks!) Still, when a production scores, it can top-notch. Check the word-on-the-street before you plunk down your money for a ticket. Pros: Inexpensive, Interesting selection Cons: Over-rated more
