Be a Guinea pig for apprentice chefs? You betcha. At the school cafe, treat yourself to the works-in-progress of students at the California School of the Culinary Arts, works overseen by master chefs, mind you, so the risk is not great. The specials of the day are always worth a try, as are standard entrees: meatloaf, pork chops, roast chicken, and the pasta. The grilled cheese is a standout. So is the "special" salad.
