If you went to the Georgetown International Kite & Culture Festival this year, you might have seen the owners of The Bazaar selling a variety of kites there. Located in Beaumont Center, off of Harrodsburg Road, near the Beaumont Branch of the Lexington Public Library, and right next door to a Subway sandwich shop, The Bazaar has a very nice collection of kites for sale. Large, brightly colorful and beautiful, these kites are quite a bit nicer than the ones my parents bought me to pay with when I was a child, but perhaps they bought the cheap-o kinds because I was rambunctious and destructive. Who knows. Anyway, now well-entrenched in my thirties, I was very tempted by the brightly colored kites at The Bazaar when I was browsing there after lunch at Subway one afternoon. The Bazaar also carries a variety of other merchandise, including Chinese knotted decorations, and a collection of those laser glass cubes - you've seen them at the dollar store, they have a laser image inside them almost floating. Well they have a large selection of a variety of designs of those, very reasonably priced, along with battery operated black laquer stands to put them on, which light up and change the colors of the laser image in the glass cube. Really cool. I will probably go back and buy one of those very soon! Visit The Bazaar and get your kites for late summer and early fall, when it gets a little cooler and we have some more nice days to spend outdoors before the winter.
