do not go on a weekend night 4/6/2012

The Ten Bells used to be my favorite place to go to have a great glass of wine, amazing tapas and feel relaxed, but I guess that was because I went there either on a Sunday or a weeknight when it was pretty calm and low key. Tonight - Friday - was absolutely horrible. They rushed me and my friend to order and have our drinks and as soon as we were finished they personally asked us to leave so they could fill our seats with other customers. We were not even able to fully enjoy the drinks we had ordered. I told the guy that I was really upset about him forcing us to leave and he said he didn't really care and I can talk to the manager if i want. I am so disappointed...I would not suggest going on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night if you want to enjoy. more

Abusive staff 10/18/2010

Went with a girl friend and had a nice night until we questioned our bill and we abused by the bar tender. It was scary. Never had an experience like that and hope no one else ever does. more

Oyster HH 4/6/2010

I was in the mood for oysters, so googled for oyster HH, and came across this restuarant. The reviews were pretty good so I decided to check it out. True to advertisement, they have oyster HH from 5-7 every day for $1 oysters. Oysters were fresh, but only complaint would be that they are very small (but perhaps that's just the type of oysters they had that day). The ""octopus and potatos"" were claimed to be must-haves, but I thought they were just ok. Best part is probably the knowledgeable staff: from wines to cheeses, it looked like they knew what they were doing. Only reason I gave it 4/5 is because though everything was good, nothing was really amazing. Pros: Reasonable prices, knowledgeable staff more

great wine bar w good tapas 10/20/2009

had a great session here on a mon night, was for drinks but turned into dinner with their great tapas choices. staff are very good, and were very helpful when our party size grew. it got very busy, and had a great vibe inside. salmon tartar was amazing. lots of the meat choices looked good too. cheese i had was a very small size however for the $8 it cost, bit of a shame, but my only real concern. Pros: great wine lists and great tapas, staff Cons: can get busy, not a big con more

shady place 3/13/2009

the place was a nice setup but there are a lot of shady people there. had an engagement get together there. there was a good 20 people there and the bartender allowed anyone to put their drinks on my tab. went to pay my bill at the end and there were a good amount of drinks i never ordered. bartender was half an idiot. also left my bag there and picked it up the following day and someone(i believe it was one of the workers because my friends were there till the place closed) went through it and stole my mp3 player. much better places to go in the city. Pros: nice setup Cons: moron bartender more

Fave LES wine bar 2/4/2009

My roommate and I call this place ""the no-name wine bar"" because there are no signs or numbers outside. But it is a gem of a neighborhood spot -- it feels like more of the artsy/noir crowd and it's casual, not pretentious. It always has the right number of people so you feel like it's lively without being overwhelming. Plus the waitors/waitresses are very wine-knowledgeable. It's a place that loves wine and doesn't talk down to you. Pros: atmosphere, wine knowledge, neighborhoody Cons: sometimes hard to talk b/c of music more

Warmth on a chilly night 12/3/2008

Not one to typically venture out myself, but this IS my neighborhood, and this was our third date. So I thought I'd take him to a place I wanted to go to. The syrah was well recommended, and the food was part of the conversation. I loved the coziness. Pros: Cozy and great crowd Cons: cash only more

Fantastic wine bar, this is how it should be. 7/26/2008

Great wine list, bottles and glasses for every price point. Food by Chef David is perfect. Good portions, seasonings and an unusual selection of meats and fish so it's never boring. Service is friendly and casual. I just wish it was in my neighborhood!! Pros: Everything! more
