nicee 3/30/2009

we went there after work for happy hour, so it was pretty early, but we had a good time! the space looked trendy and nice.. and there was an outdoor space and a pool table too!... oh and the food was good too!!! Happy hour was only til 6 on a Friday which kinda stinks, compared to others in the area, but overall, i will probably be returning! Pros: food, happy hour, clean, trendy, friendly Cons: not sure more

A Great Neighborhood Bar with a Beer Garden! 7/28/2008

tristanwolf, it sounds like your ""review"" is more of a complaint about the gentrification of the LES rather than an actual review of the bar. All things considered, most any bar on the LES (unfortunately) now attracts a large crowd of frat guys and the like on weekend nights. But inspite of the over esteemed frat kids that bombard the entire neighborhood, The Sixth Ward does well keeping the crowd and noise level under control. Maybe its not ""your"" type of place on weekends, but how about giving it a go on a week night or at happy hour or even Saturday and Sunday Brunch. Even I tend to steer clear of almost all the LES bars on the crazy Friday and Saturday nights. That's not to say that there aren't some fun, not so Frat-overrun weekend nights. I've had plenty of fun nights with other neighborhood locals, low-key friends, artists, musicians and the like on a Friday and Saturday night at the Sixth Ward too. And if you're into the late night scene, most of the jocks clear out around 2 AM anyway and its great to wind down back in what is very much a warm and welcoming neighborhood bar towards the end of the night. The bartenders and servers are some of the friendliest folks ever, the food is really quite delicious and the drink specials are awesome. The outdoor beer garden is also a plus on nice weather days. Plus they have a separate billiards and game room too. Ultimately I'd say that inspite of the massive gentrification that's been going on, The Sixth Ward brings back to the LES the homeyness and friendliness of what a neighborhood hangout should be. Pros: Great Drink Specials, Beer Garden, Unlimited Mimosas w/Brunch, Friendly Staff Cons: Weekend Nights can get crowded more

A Jewel in the Rough 3/5/2008

I'm part of a weekly Wednesday drinking group of 30 or so regulars who love to drink, geek out, talk and eat after work. We check out a different bar each week. We've been kicking around the city for 12 years. In that time we've visited several hundred bars (with repeats of faves). We recently visited Sixth Ward for the first time and really had a wonderful time. Our waitress was amazing. She was on top of our drinks like Fish on Chips. The Irish grub was worth its weight in emeralds. From what I understand, their Guiness pour was done right. A feather in its cap, Sixth Ward has an outdoor area. We look forward to returning in the warmer months to take advantage of that space. Pros: Amazing Service, Great Location & Space Cons: No Cons more

Great Bar! 11/22/2007

The owners of 200 Orchard have taken over this spot across the street. Very chill atmosphere, where you can have nice pint and a great meal. The menu is your traditional Irish grub and the prices rock compared to the overpriced restaurants in the LES area. Went with a group of friends, ate and drank all night, and when our bill came, we were shocked to see how cheap it was. Thank you thank you for bringing in a new place that you can have a great time, get really drunk and not go broke! The bartenders were really cool and friendly which is also hard to find these days! We will all be back for sure! more

Authentic Irish Atmosphere with a Beer Garden 11/1/2007

This place is the most authentic Guiness pour in NYC. The owners are originally bartenders from Ireland and even flew in an expert to make sure the CO2 was exactly as it is in a typical pub in Ireland. The food is class Irish done perfectly and the owners are always around making sure everyone is having a great time. I think it is such a testament to the bar when the owner is so involved. Sit in the beer garden and relax or eat at the bar. It's awesome! Pros: Authentic, Food, Service Cons: Can get crowded more
