Good place to check out! 9/18/2011

The first time I went to The Shrine was for a Drake after party back in the winter. The first thing I loved about it was the album wall they have when you first walk in. Theres pictures on thier website of it; it's a giant wall that extends through the hall of different album covers of influencial artist. I spent about 20min just starring at it. The club is beautiful. The whole African motifs are something you don't see in clubs in Chicago. One thing that keeps me coming back to The Shrine is that no matter if it's a slow night or busy as hell the staff is always on top of their game. I go to a lot of clubs but keep going back to the Shrine because of that. more

If you are planning to attend, think twice 1/11/2011

I attended the Amel Larrieux show and was pretty disappointed with the organization and professionalism of the club's staff. The doors did not open on time and when questioned the staff was rude and offered no information. They seemed to be under the mis-impression that they were doing paying customers a favor by keeping them waiting in the cold. Once in the club, it was standing room only and the crowd was forced to wait three hours for a thirty-eight minute concert. There is also a sign outside the club reminding its patrons to be ""regal"". This note seems particularly condescending at a club that caters to African-Americans but is white owned. more

Great addition to the South Loop 5/13/2010

The Shrine has done a great job of bringing in nationally known acts such as Talib Kweli, Platinum Pied Pipers and Roy Ayers. Local and national DJs keep the music popping. Cover charges are reasonable. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because of limited or VIP-only seating. Drink prices are a bit steep, but they often have $5 special or hosted bars. more
