It's the best music education program I've ever seen. Right from the start, they are playing in a band, playing real music, learning from working musicians. By doing this, they learn to depend upon each other, and to respect each other. The founder of the School, Paul Green, compared traditional lessons to the School of Rock technique - ""It's the difference between shooting hoops and playing basketball"". For motivation, it turns out that one peer is worth a dozen parents, and the older, more experienced kids support and work with the younger ones. \r
I've been going to School of Rock shows since 2006, and I wish every member of every band had been through this program. I've seen shy kids become confident performers, and even if they don't pursue music as a career, what they learn about themselves will help them the rest of their lives.
