My daughter was given a full merit scholarship at 5 years old from the school of OBT, but half way through that year she cried hysterically about how she wanted to quit, so we did. I thought that was the end of ballet until a year later when we were at the stop light next to The Portland Ballet. Pointing to THE PORTLAND BALLET sign (not yet able to read) my daughter asked, ""Does that say Ballet?""\r I nodded, yes.\r ""That's my ballet school,"" she said. \r So I pulled over, walked in, and was warmly welcomed by the lovely Director, Nancy Davis. \r Two and a half years later she continues to love it and would go everyday if she could!! TPB is not only beautiful on the outside, but the teachers are worthy of modeling both professionally and personally. The LOVE is felt here and it's her 'home away from home.' She adores all the staff and has made good friends. She enjoys the live piano in her classes, and now loves performing too. She says she ""wants to be a Ballet Teacher when she grows up."" Thanks to The Portland Ballet she's a very happy girl! :) more

Although our daughter started her training at OBT, she wouldn't even be dancing today if we hadn't switched to The Portland Ballet 5 years ago. All of their curriculum teachers have extensive professional experience which allows them to pass on a very high level of training. \r \r Great performance opportunities permit the dancers to develop an onstage persona that few dancers beginning professional careers have.\r \r Best of all, the nurturing environment, sense of community, and open communication combine to give families a chance to feel a part of the school. The addition of modern with Josie Mosely and jazz with Mary Hunt offer dancers who may love dance, but not wish to continue in classical ballet, a chance to discover another dance form. I couldn't recommend it more. more

If you are looking for a Ballet Academy that will teach solid ballet technique, vocabulary and repertoire while instilling love, appreciation and skill in a nurturing, encouraging and rich environment then The Portland Ballet is it! I have two daughters who have been continually inspired, supported, encouraged and respected by all the teachers at The Portland Ballet. \r The Portland Ballet is unique in that it truly looks at each developmental stage of the dancer and while creating challenge they are cognizant of when it is physically and emotionally healthy to give more challenge and when to wait. They truly take a holistic approach to educating and inspiring the dancer! Both my daughters who began in Creative Ballet class at 5 years old and now in Middle school and High School have developed beautiful bodies, minds, spirits and friendships at The Portland Ballet. I highly recommend the top notch teaching, the supportive cultural environment and exposure to live music, artful stage productions and honest guidance. If you want the best, The Portland Ballet should is it! more

Incredible studio with excellent ballet training. Our daughter is very serious about dance and this is the best place for her as several of the TPB alums have gone on to dance for professional companies. more
