Disappointing 4/4/2008

After reading the previous reviews, I was hopeful for a true southern style BBQ. Having lived in various areas of the southeast for 11 yrs, I knew what I could expect. Unfortunately, it didn't come close to my expectations and we were SO disappointed. My husband and I ordered ala carte beef brisket and baby back ribs. I've never seen brisket cut into small, thin, uniform squares. Had the sauce not been on them, I would have sworn it was pet food. While it had flavor, it was on the dry side and chewy--even with the sauce. The baby back ribs should be tender and the meat should come easily off the bone. It was neither of these. It was on the dry side and chewy side with the sauce on them.\r \r As another poster experienced, the mac-n-cheese was nothing I'd ever experienced before. The pasta was as soft and mushy as one gets in canned soup and the cheese sauce was artificial. It never dawned on us that ""fresh"" mac-n-cheese could be inferior to frozen ones, but this was not anything I've had in southern or soul food kitchens--or anywhere else for that matter. Same could be said for the greens. At least the Pecan pie was loaded with pecans.\r \r I'm truly disappointed. $52.00 later + a tip, we were very let down. more

Not great, not bad 3/9/2008

I had my first experience with the food at the Porch just last night. I loved the potato salad which had a variety of flavors going on. The mac and cheese was good. Although I did not like the sauce on my pulled pork sandwich, I give the pulled pork meat (without sauce) a big thumbs up for it's natural and juicy flavor. Get your pulled pork with no sauce, you will be happier. Avoid the chicken wings. They are big and well cooked, but the coating and seasonings are too intense. The coating is too crunching (nearly burned) and the seasonings have all the wrong flavors. They miss big time on their fried chicken. The red velvet cake was good, but could have been much more moist. more

Best BBQ anywhere, super service, and quick for a lunch hour. 9/28/2007

I just returned from a wedding in Athens, Georgia and I tried every BBQ place I could find there for a week and none compared to The Porch right here in Kent. I was raised in Seattle and frequented the great BBQ restaurants all along MLK Way and The Porch still wins. The food is original with great collard greens, and the best sweet potato pie around!! The service can't be beat. I have taken dates, grandchildren, co-workers and they all have been impressed with the attention they received in addition to the awesome food. I have a one hour lunch so I pop in there and get quick service, too. I am so pleased to have such a super spot in Kent to go to. Pros: Great service, great food more

Good BBQ 7/14/2007

I have eaten at The Porch on several occassions. The item I order is ""The Porch Combo"". This comes with chicken, ribs, link, and brisket. All are delicious. Sides include beans and cole slaw with corn bread. Alot of food for less than $9. I beans are the best I have had. They have a nice spicy kick. Pros: Excellent BBQ Cons: Location can be difficult to find for 1st timers more

Worst BBQ 5/3/2007

Unfortunately this is the worst BBQ I've ever had. The sauce is very runny, and it's very sweet. We ordered the chicken and ribs combo, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, a slice of red velvet cake, and peach cobbler. The red velvet cake was extremely dry, the macaroni & cheese didn't taste like cheese at all. It tasted more like macaroni noodles in a bland cream sauce. They forgot our beans, and the peach cobbler was under cooked. I'll stick with the BBQ joints in Seattle. Pros: Nice owner, seems clean. Cons: Terrible food. more

Good food, friendly service. 2/17/2007

The Porch BBQ is a great little restaurant. My husband and I went for lunch and he ordered the chicken basket and fries. The chicken was juicy and the seasoned fries were delicious. The chicken was cooked when ordered so it took 10 minutes, and was well worth the wait. I ordered the BBQ ribs and chicken combo. The chicken and ribs were tender and smothered in barbeque sause. My meal came with a side of potatoe salad and corn bread. Everything was very tasty. We will definetly be back for more. Pros: Parking, Service, Great taste and value. Friendly owner. Cons: Small, limited seating more

homestyle bbq 12/20/2006

While this place is TINY and inconspicuous, once you get your plate of food you'll wonder how you've never been here before. The food is amazing, and the cook is always making more, leaving you with a very little wait time. Pros: Parking, fast service, food more

Great BBQ! Friendly Service! 12/20/2006

4 of my coworkers and I tried this place last week. The food was great! 4 of us had the ""Porch Combo"" which includes BBQ Chicken, Ribs, Hotlink and Brisket, your choice of potato salad or coleslaw, beans and cornbread. All were fantastic. The hotlink is definately spicy, the chicken fell of the bone so you could eat it with a fork, and the ribs and brisket were both very good. The 5th person had the pulled pork sandwich, which they enjoyed and stated it was one of the best they'd ever had. You get your choice of mild, medium, or hot BBQ sauce. Most of us went with the mild, even that is spicy so be warned! The place is kind of hard to find, there are no huge signs and it's in an office plaza. It's location is in the Cascade Office Plaza, a big long blue building. just south of liquidation world between Willis and 277nd. It's at the end of the building closest to the street. Look for a main entrance into the building (there was a small sign set up for the Porch) go in and turn immediately to your right. It's small, but homey. If you like BBQ, you will love this place! more

The greatest BBQ and baked beans in town. 10/15/2005

The Porch is a quaint restaurant located in downtown Kent. Kathy and Mike are some of the warmest people you want to meet. They are very hospitable and their service is wonderful. If you are looking for some great BBQ along with mouth watering sides, sides like collard greens, gumbo black eye peas just to name a few, you should check out The Porch. Pros: Service, Food, Cost more
