Service was slow 3/25/2009

I only had 1/2 a glass of red wine (but I'm a lightweight anyway), so I guess I got buzzed the last time I went there, because the food was nothing like I remembered when I came back again this last time - while highly recommending it to my family nevertheless. Man, was I ashamed! more

a great place for your favorite seafood dishes 12/11/2008

This is the oldest-operating restaurant in San Francisco, established in the 1960s. The service is basic and friendly, the menu is large, and the and the portions are plentiful. The prices are mid-range. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city! Pros: old-school feel Cons: the dining area can be chilly more

Fantastic food and service!!! 11/30/2008

I have lived in San Francisco for years and have never heard of this place. My boyfriend suggested it for a Saturday evening out with friends. The interior of the restaurant is causual yet completely charming. There are old license plates on the wall and a long bar on one side of the room. We ordered a bucket of clams to start. Delicious! They give you plenty of bread to dip in the left over sauce. Careful not to fill up on just this. Next, between three people, we ordered two seafood provencal dishes. They were huge...we couldn't even finish them! The staff looked like they were having the best time, dancing and loving life. The waiter thanked us for coming and said ""see you tomorrow"". It was funny because we all agreed that the comment made us want to come back the next day. Although we didn't come back the next day, I am thinking this may be a great place to have a birthday dinner. You have to check it out! Pros: food, service, history Cons: a little far outside city center more

HIGHLY Overrated 1/22/2006

This was a most disappoining experience. Our expectation was good food and good service. What we got was an overpriced meal and a level of service that was most surprising. Especially when you consider that this eatery has been in business since 1861. 1861 MIND YOU!!!! Poor food and the service was even worse!!! SHAME, SHAME AND SHAME....YES...3 SHAMES!!! Pros: none, none, none more

Good Food, Good Price - Charming Restaurant 10/24/2005

My parents were visiting from Hawaii. It was late on a Wednesday night and they had a craving for seafood, but did not want to pay a fortune. I had been to the OCH several years ago and stopped by to check them out. It was close to closing, but the hostess said they would hold the kitchen open for us. The decor looks like a neighborhood hangout, but the food...fresh and cooked perfectly. Try the Cioppino and the Seafood Linguine-It's loaded with seafood. Great place if you're craving fresh seafood at a good price. more

Great Seafood 12/21/2002

Some of the best amd freshest seafood in SF. Try the linuene with assored seafood. more

historical landmark 7/20/2002

From viewing all the memorabilia on the walls, it seems like this place has quite a history. I really like the interior. The fish is very good also, although I haven't had the clams or the cioppiono (see previous reviews). I ordered blackened halibut on the lunch menu, which was very tasty, but the yellow rice underneath the fish seem to have been completely ignored. Overall, I had pleasant dining experience and would mention this place to my friends. This restaurant is NOT in the Mission district. It is in the Bayview District. Pros: interesting interior, nice bar, good seafood Cons: ignored side dishes more
