Editorial

  • The Space
Founded on July 5, 1971 (in the unused kitchen of the Mercer Arts Center), this interdisciplinary laboratory is dedicated to emerging and established artists who push the boundaries of their respective forms. Located among the warehouses of Chelsea, the Kitchen houses a large black box theater and a second-floor cafe and performance space.

    The Draw
Whether your interest is video or performance art, the Kitchen is a prime place to see innovative experimental work in either field. The roster of artists presented here reads like a who's who for the latter half of the 20th century: Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, Bill T. Jones, Eric Bogosian, David Byrne, Robert Longo, Peter Greenaway, Meredith Monk, Brian Eno, John Lurie, Elizabeth Streb, Robert Mapplethorpe, Cindy Sherman, Vernon Reid and Jenny Holzer.
