The Floor Smith

Ray Arraujo (sp?), owner of "The Floor Smith," came to my parents to do an estimate. I happened to be at my parents house when he arrived in his black SUV that had tinted windows. The first red flag was that his breath smelled of alcohol. My father, a retired detective, was suspicious of Ray from the outset. His process of looking at the family room and dining room was odd because he insisted on seeing all the rooms of the first floor. My father got the feeling he was surveying their house instead of actually paying attention the scope of the actual job. The price he left was reasonable, but my dad was suspicious. He took it upon himself to look into Ray Araujo's background and he has a criminal history that includes drug arrests and theft. He was arrested in July 2009 for having stolen goods in a rented out ware house, and is currently awaiting trial for burglary and grand larceny. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. more

We had these guys come out to help us with our new remodel and they seemed good for the job, but when we looked further into their bond and insurance information, we were shocked to find out they have been operating without a bond or insurance for a few months. Aren't there agencies watching this sort of thing. Buyer Be Ware!! more

I had these guys come out to give an estimate, and after they left, I did some research and they have a judgment against them and no bond or insurance on their company. How is it that contractors are allowed to work without a bond. Check first before you use these people. more

We got a bid from the Floor Smith based on the other Judy's book reviews. Their bid was less than the other two we got and Ray, the Owner, was friendly and helpful. When the crew came to our house to star work, they were late, and did not bring any stains that were in the color family we requested (warm, medium red/brown). They told us these were the only stains, period (contrary to Ray's statement that they could make just about any color). When Ray called to check in on the work, he said there were in fact other stains, but that we would have to go buy them and bring them to the job site that afternoon if we wanted them to use one. I managed to arrange for a sub and leave work to do this - picking up a stain at Home Depot, but it was a hassle. Some of these problems could perhaps be alleviated if the owner went to each site at the start of work, or, if at least one member of each crew had more of a customer service focus, and perhaps a little more English fluency (the crew barely spoke to us at all, even the leader, when we were trying to talk to him). When the work was done (on time), the floors looked great. We had some damaged areas and they were much improved. The grain in the wood really pops out now. People have commented on how good they look. And, they left the job site clean. more

We had our floors refinished by these guys and their work was amazing. We couldn't believe our eyes when they finished! Give them a call and get an estimate- their work is great. more
