Not all that 7/4/2006

I only go to the Fillmore if I have to. The smell of marijuana is constant -- even if you are seeing someone you'd think the fans of wouldn't be into that sort of thing. The venue is a bit large and the staff acts as if it's the coolest place ever. Not my first choice of venue. more

How's About An Apple 6/29/2006

Been to the Fillmore Theatre in San Francisco, or as I should politically correctly call it the "SFWeekly Fillmore"? You should go. First, it is totally old school, every time I have gone security has been a cinch and at the top of the stairs you are greeted by a guy who offers you an apple. Apparently, this was for those folks back in the 60's tripping on acid. I guess apples are comforting. The band selection is rich. Wait around long enough and chances are your favorite band will play. Bar is good, standing room only on the bottom level, but don't miss the balcony. You will be able to watch your favorite musicians up close and personal create magic. GO! more

Fillmore 5/7/2006

Once, I had the luck of going to a private party at the Fillmore where they opened the doors to all the rooms in the venue. Every wall is covered with the famous posters, and even though I'm usually not one to gush about SF's glory days of yore, you do get a sense of history looking at all those shows that used to happen here. The venue itself is a little large for my taste, but if you're gonna see one of the more popular rock bands coming through town, this is the place to see 'em. more

Old Place With Good Sound 8/20/2005

The Fillmore in San Francisco is just one popular place that bands now roll by. Located on Geary right after the rise it is a dirty looking building. Around it are coffee shops and drug stores. The parking is a nightmare so get there early or prepare to find a parking garage that will charge you at least $10. Once you get inside is where the fun begins. Although the outside is dirty and old the inside is clean with great four star hotel-like decoration. There is a little bar inside where the bands that already played hang out and it overlooks the stage area. The floor is big and the crowds do sometimes get rowdy. The acoustics are pretty nice but one of the best features about the whole area is all the over hanging chandeliers. they create a ballroom atmosphere and let you enjoy the experience better. more

Great music in SF 8/20/2005

The Fillmore is a great place to see live music in San Francisco. They always have great shows and have hosted bands ranging from Tom Petty to the Grateful Dead. One of my favorite things to do while waiting for the main show to come on is to walk around and look at all the amazing photographs of everyone who has played at the Fillmore. They serve food upstairs, but no one comes for the food -- just for the music. more

Cool Venue 8/17/2005

The Fillmore is a good venue to see your favorite acts perform live. The venue is sized well--not too big, not to small. The atmosphere is really cool and allows you to get your groove on while jamming to live music. There's also a bar and a balcony for those who don't want to be stuck with the crowds of people. Overall, you won't be disappointed. more

Wonderful Hardware, plus more 8/15/2005

This great local hardware store has everything. They make keys in front and they sell a lot of general supplies and door-nobs and cleaners. The place is jam-packed with stuff. There is no room to really walk and browse. Stuff is hanging from all over the place. The owner is really nice and sweet, they treat you really well there. more

Great Venue! 8/11/2005

I saw Sleater-Kinney play here a couple of years back and the band was great, but the club only added to the experience. The Filmore has a very intimate feel and I really love the ambience. Even though it’s a medium-sized venue, you still feel very close to the artists. The lighting and chandeliers on the ceiling especially added to the appeal. more
