My favorite neighborhood bar 8/17/2007

I've never had a fun, chill place to call ""my neighborhood bar."" Well, I found it!! First good thing ... Loren (one of the bartenders) is the BEST! He makes great drinks and knows how to treat his customers. You never leave there complaining about your bar service. The patio outside is another good feature about The Dive. There are plenty of tables and it's always nice to get some fresh air. The digital juke box is GREAT!! I always end up putting $5 or $10 in :) If there was just a little small dance floor, that would make it even better. But, still no complaints by me! They have a list of ""speciality drinks,"" many of which I need to try. (Bacardi and Diet Coke is a regular of mine ... creature of habit.) Deep Purple, one of the featured drinks, is really good! It's a little tart, but if you're in the mood for that, you'll be happy. The food is good, too. The pizzas never disappoint :) Overall, the whole staff (bartenders, waitresses, cooks, etc.) is very friendly, which adds to an already fun night out with friends! I definitely recommend stopping by The Dive :) Pros: bartenders, digital jukebox, atmosphere, reasonable prices, service more

Cool and Comfy. Fresh and Yummy. 4/18/2007

I hesitate to write this 'cause we like getting seats without waiting, but... Pros: Stands up to a party planner's rigid criteria for a great place for a party! Cons: I miss the old Highland Grounds BUT I always appreceiate a free upgrade. more

Bad All Around 4/17/2007

Don't be fooled, this is the worst disquise of its predecessor and comes with an arrogant empty element which disappoints any old fans of the once wonderful Highland Grounds. The food is way off; who can't make eggs for example? The ""new"" focus was meant to be on the wood burning stove (given the convenient location to Mozza) , but it turns out the owner - who 'relocated' the former manager who we loved and the music elements as well- which we equally loved, along with the food and drink which was at one point very nice. Decided to turn the place into what was meant to be a money making pitt for the business, yet they called it the Dive, prices went up and quality down. Too many new renovations to support the kind of quality that was had before by loyal patrons of the place. Too bad for all. more

I guess the reviews worked...? 4/16/2007

I had been to The Dive once before, not too long after it re-opened in it's current format, and only for a beer. I was left unmoved, but at least no longer thirsty. After checking back in with the CS listing I was surprised to find some rather glowing reviews, to which I called FOO-Y. That is ""Friends Of Owners"" planted postings. One in particular had the tone of a Hired Gun PR written piece. I realize this is not an uncommon practice, and I cannot blame The Dive for what appears to be planted reviews. The tip off is when multiple reviews are posted on the same day by people who have never posted before and the verbage is too precise. But regardless, it has prompted me to return to The Dive to see what I may have missed, so mission accomplished...I guess. more

The Dive's alive with saucy deliciousness 4/10/2007

Wow ever since this fine establishment morphed into its new rendition, The Dive, its been nothing but an upgrade from the old highland grounds! The atmosphere is totally comfortable and laid-back, the music is usually happenin' with a saucy e-jukebox thingie, and the food and drinks are simply outstanding. Pros: Food, drinks, location, atmosphere, good times! Cons: ummm... uhhh... theres no parking on highland from 3-7pm daily more

Finally, a great hangout bar! 4/9/2007

My new favorite area to hang out is around the corner of Melrose and Highland. There's a stellar restaurant there (Mozza), but even better, a totally excellent bar called the Dive. The first time I was ever there, we stopped in for an after dinner drink, and immediately became regulars! Great drinks (the Deep Purple is my favorite) and great American Roots music on the sound system. Outstanding place!"" Pros: Great music, cool drink selection, good food more

A fun neighborhood hangout 4/9/2007

for the past decade and a half 742 Highland has been the location a fun little spot that you could go for food drinks or a meeting. Recently the owners changed their name and decor into The Dive. it is definitely comfier now with big room padded booths and stools. The service remains very friendly with waitstaff who treat you like a long lost friend who has returned. the food is tasty without making you feel guilty about calories and stuff. Apparently the night menu is completely new with an addition of fascinating drinks and side dishes. Pros: Parking, service and free wifi. more

Good Times!!!! 4/9/2007

I went to this great little spot last weekend and had ""Good Times"". If you want a place with a great attitude, Pros: Great Drinks more

Basically everything you could want in one spot! I love it! 4/9/2007

I love this place. The food is really good and really inexpensive which is really hard to find sometimes. As far as drinks, if you want your standard stuff, they've got you covered, but they also have a list of drinks that they have come up with that are totally different and really good. Try the Monster Shandie! The staff is super nice and personable and the crowd is very chill and cool. It's not a scene, like most cool bars in Hollywood or LA for that matter. It's dark and moody but in a hot way, with a long row of Leather Banquette and a really cool Bar. The lighting is perfect too. Last but not least, they have an awesome jukebox. It's the video kind and has any song you could want to hear! It even has Master of the Universe by Queen (the Highlander theme song) which is my personal favorite...all the way to Norah Jones. It is a super cool spot. It's hecka low key and I love it. I have already told all my friends! Pros: A really awesome change from the typical LA Bar and is really cool! Cons: No parking lot or valet, but street parking has never been a problem for me. more

Reasonbly righteous rockin' drinks 4/9/2007

I don't know how to write a restaurant review. I've never written one, but The Dive has motivated me to comment. Pros: The people are pros and friendly and can speak informatively on their food and drink Cons: There are no cons, there aren't even any people with misdemeanors. more

I love this place! 4/8/2007

WOW! Who knew that great drinks and a very fair price could be found with delicious meals that are actually good for you. The Dive makes some rock ?in drinks at killer prices and the food great. I used to come here years ago in another incarnation. It was a cutting edge coffee house with music then and now it is cutting edge with its cocktails and menu. I love the Clay Pots that are fired in the wood burning oven and the pizzas are as good or better than that fancy pizza joint around the corner. I love this place! Pros: Not fully discovered yet. You can still get in. Cons: What took me so long to discover this? more

Most inviting place to relax and hang out in the city with great food and drinks. 4/8/2007

I love the Dive. I work down the street and my co-workers and I have made it our new hangout. The Deep Purple and the Smashed Cucumber are great drinks. Fantastic atmosphere to chill after work. I love the Rustic Pizza. Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Delicious Food & Drinks At A Great Price more
