Where's my Vueve? 1/27/2006

The bar was cool and so was the scene, but I tried to order a bottle of Vueve Clicquot and they didn't even have it. What kind of champagne bar doesn't have Vueve, that was annoying. I got something else and tried some cocktails which were good. Next time I hope they have some. Cons: No Vueve, No Vueve, No Vueve more

Editorial

  • The Scene
Dominated by an authentic Tiffany dome and ivory paneling, this elegant upper level is a welcome respite from the Cafe's clamor downstairs. Sophisticated patrons match the classy trappings, whether on a refined business outing or celebratory date. Tableside flourishes, from shaved bottarga to silver sauce-servers, feel right at home here.

    The Food
Expect amuses, extras, palate-cleansers, petit fours and other flourishes in addition to the four-course prix-fixe menu, which changes every two weeks. One constant Zakarian offers is an adept balance between the luxurious and the light. A shellfish veloute with a buttery bouillabaisse flavor and creamy pearl onion risotto fall in the rich range, while a froth-heightened asparagus salad and delicate chunks of striped bass in an ethereal parsley and garlic pond border on the buoyant. Desserts combine both, with no better example than the bitter chocolate square--a dense, but mercifully-portioned serving accompanied by a graceful cherry sorbet.
