great place, totally different 3/24/2010

really enjoyed the truffles we got as a present from our law firm. Loved the tiramisu, the malted milkshake, and the cookie dough. My husband really liked the strawberry tabasco, so much so that we went back today to get a whole box of just those! When we went in and saw the shop, we were just floored by how pretty everything is. Including the beautiful chocolates. The truffles are different from anything we've ever experienced. It's hard to explain, you just have to try them. They taste fantastic and exactly like their name! more

Compliments to the Chef 11/18/2009

As a former pastry chef at two different Ritz Carlton's out West, I thought I had seen some pretty amazing chocolates - Norman Love's probably chief among them. I have to say that The Chocolaterie has surpassed anything I have ever seen in the form of a truffle. It is not just that they are gorgeous to look at. It is that they have truly mastered some absolutely phenomenal dessert flavors right in the chocolates themselves. On top of that, they have at least three or four times as many different truffles as I have ever seen in any one retail shop. I personally love fruit and chocolate combinations, and in my opinion this is one of their crowning achievements. The list of fruit truffles is too long to enumerate here, but I'll tell you I bought 10 of them and counted at least 15 more! (Most chocolatiers are doing well to have 25 TOTAL truffles in stock!) The passion fruit is the best I've tasted. And the caramel apple truffle is truly a schoolgirl flashback to the fresh caramel apples we ate at the state fair. And don't even get me started on the fig and almond truffle with Southern Comfort. That was sublime! And then there is one of their quintessentially American truffle creations that I recommend to any spicy food lover. It's their strawberry Tabasco truffle. Fresh strawberry ganache laced with Tabasco and covered in dark chocolate. Just amazing. I could go on and on, but I will simply say that my chef hat is off to these guys. They are in a chocolate league with very few others. In some ways, they might even be at the top of that league. more

All My Christmas Shopping 11/2/2009

I've been coming here pretty regularly since last spring and it just keeps getting better! They have so many cute things that I've decided to do all of my Christmas shopping here. The little doggie wrist purses are just darling (hope my nieces don't read this!). This is a wonderful shop with chocolates, baskets, gifts and really unique little things you just can't find anywhere else. Even the chocolates themselves are unique. I adore this place and highly recommend it! more

Most Unusual & Creative 10/16/2009

To me, this is the most unusual and creative chocolate shop I have experienced. They have so many different truffle flavors that it would take me all day to list them (even if I could remember them all). Standouts for me and my husband include all of their "mousse" truffles (dark chocolat, hazelnut, macadamia, butterscotch, and "peanutbutterscotch"), the strawberry tabasco, sundance (spicy ancho chili pepper in dark chocolate), spiced pear, and bananas foster. My husband is also hooked on the spicy peanutbutter crunch truffle. A couple of their most unusual ones are the epicurean delight (fig, almond, and southern comfort) and the juniper cabernet truffles - both are outstanding. They've done wonderful gift baskets for business associates, all while we wait. Service is unbelievably friendly and their entire store is full of amazing chocolates that they make along with things from all over the world. more

Like Being in Paris 9/23/2009

I have only one word for this chocolate shop - SENSATIONAL! I've been to the Avenue Forsyth numerous times since they opened last year, and for the life of me I don't know how we missed this place. It looks like a the front of a Parisian hotel, complete with a beautifully scalloped awning and chandeliers in the windows. Inside, it only gets better, with colorful chocolates and gifts from all over the world. In the back portion of the store, they have displays full of what I can only describe as chocolate "jewelry" - chocolate truffles that they make by hand in the store and paint to look like little pieces of art. Well if you "eat with your eyes", you will love this place. But we didn't stop with our eyes. We tried the chocolate eclair truffle and the dark chocolate mousse truffle and thought we were in chocolate heaven. I love anything chocolate and raspberry, and they have 5 or 6 truffles with different combinations of chocolate and raspberry. This is a stunning and extraordinary store with probably the best chocolates we have ever eaten. Do NOT miss this place if you are anywhere in the metro Atlanta area! more

Mississippi Mud 9/1/2009

This shop is phenomenal. Russell Stover has a "Mississippi Mud" truffle that is just waxy dark chocolate. THIS store has a Mississippi Mud truffle that tastes like Mississippi mud pie stuffed into a luscious milk chocolate shell. And that's only the beginning. They have so many different truffles, it is simply mind-boggling to even make a selection. The carrot cake truffle and the hazelnut mousse truffle are outstanding. So is the chocolate chip cookie dough truffle. Ones that I get every time are the tiramisu and the caramel apple. I get teacher's gifts here, and they ship gift boxes to my parents and in-laws in Michigan for us every month or two. I won't get chocolate anywhere else - this is the most complete chocolate shop I've ever seen. I recommend them highly! more

Unique & Elegant Chocolates 8/3/2009

Beautiful store with chocolate truffles that are exquisitely hand painted like colorful artworks. The extensive collection in their displays looked more like something in a jewelry store. I am a regular customer and have found their service to be unwaverly excellent and friendly. They sell Godiva and other well known luxury brands as well, but the prices of their own fresh truffles made in the store are actually larger than Godiva's but priced less per piece. The flavors are more interesting and well done than just about any other chocolates I can remember having. We especially love their tiramisu, champagne, "peanutbutterscotch", hazelnut mousse, lavender, and blueberry cheesecake truffles. Even so, we've never had any of their truffles that weren't absolutely wonderful. Our daughter is getting married next month, and they are making custom flavors and specially designed and painted truffles in silver foil 2-piece boxes that are simply stunning. This is a one-of-a kind store that always has an amazing selection of beautiful truffles and other chocolates that we enjoy buying regularly for ourselves and others. If you are anything like me, you will say they are too pretty to eat and then, after trying them, that they taste even better. more
