Take my children every week! 9/21/2010

Great place to take my children. Staff is wonderful, and the quality of classes is great. My wife and I tried other gyms before but have not been able to find a place that matches up to the childrens gym. I have three kids that recently started attending classes, and could not ask for anything better! more

LOVEEE 9/21/2010

I LOVE The Children's Gym! I have been a nanny for many families throughout the Portland area, many of which took their children here (and raved about it!). As a nanny I would many times accompny children to their classes, open gyms, camps, etc. \r \r Everytime I walk in everyone at the desk is so friendly and up beat. Traci, the owner always greats everyone with a smile, and runs a great buisness. They have AMAZING costumer service, and from my experience if something is not right, they will make it right. All of the staff members are very knowledgable and know what they are talking about. they treat you as family and not as a coustomer. I have been to many open gyms and while the children are having a blast, I have had many interesting conversations with the coach supervising it.\r \r I see the open gyms as a great value! you have to realize its not easy on the body to stand on a moving trampoline for an hour while kids jump on it. I think having two fifteen minute times perfect! There are so many other things to do, it does not need to be open for the entire time. And on a rainy day when the kids are couped up in the house, $7 is a great value for good, genuine fun! (If you are a member howeve,r I believe it is $5).\r \r The coaches are AMAZING there aswell. They are so nice and genuine and teach the class in a very ""motherly"" and caring way focusing more on building confidence than making the child into an olympian( which was my experience with Rose City, and many other Portland gym)s. They really care about the kids, and take time out of their day to have a conversation with the child. I have never been able to find a poor coach at The Childrens Gym, but listening to the kids ""Teacher Chelsea"" seems to be the favorite of many of the gym members. She is really able to make a connection with these kids, and somehow once a child joins her class, they never want to leave. There are two Chelseas, but the blonde is who I am talking about. I would definetly ask to be in her class, but they are all great! They also seem to love Teacher Ashley because she is ""so funny"". Overall I just love this place. Try it out, and I promise you will love it!\r \r more

Owner Disappointment 11/18/2009

Although it costs 7 dollars to take my child to the Children's Gym for an hour (and they seem to always be on bar time or something because their clock is always set ahead so an hour really is not accurate), I have been there many times in the past. Recently, we went to the ""open-gym"" and I was so disappointed in the experience. The person on duty, who turned out to be the owner, was in a skirt and knee high leather boots and was on her macbook throughout the whole session. Who wears boots and a skirt in a gym full of mats and gymnastic equipment? Her head was buried in a laptop and her eyes were not on the children at all. There is usually children's music playing, and I assume because she was sitting next to the stereo, she didn't want to disrupt her concentration on whatever was so pertinent in attending to on the computer. The worst part is that we each pay 7 dollars, more than a movie or the children's museum, for an almost-hour of play time. And, on this particular occasion, the trampoline was only open for about fifteen minutes total out of the hour. This is one of the main attractions. Why did I pay 7 dollars to not have an actual ""OPEN"" gym? The trampoline wasn't open except for when it was convenient for the owner to put down her laptop and, in a skirt, jump with each child for a 30 seconds at a time. LAME! The other times we've been there a young lady would be there on the trampoline having fun in appropriate gym clothes for the duration of the open gym. That, my friends, would signify an open gym. When asked by someone about the trampoline, she refused to ""open"" it until she was ready--and said it'd only be open twice for a few minutes. Well, what I have to say to you is that I'll be doing something different and that's not coming back, and telling all my toddler mom friends about our not-so-open or accommodating experience. Pros: toddler safe Cons: expensive for what you get more
