Useful! 6/18/2006

Great service. We took The Bus to Hanauma bay. All you have to do is call their system and ask how to get from where you are to where you want to be - they'll tell you the bus number, where the stop is, and the schedule of the bus. The cost was $2 per person, to and from Hanauma Bay. No other place was going to beat that! Yes, it was a bit crowded, but we got to see the scenery on the way, and, frankly, it wasn't that long of a trip. But, I can see how it would be tedious if you're getting to North Shore... more

Great transportation and cheap! 10/5/2005

I used to take TheBus everywhere I go (before I got a car). It was such a good deal and it really is still today. Now for two dollars, you can get a round trip to wherever you want. That is much cheaper than driving and buying gas these days. TheBus has changed a lot since I last used it. They have redesigned their exterior and interior and are more technologically advance. On a personal note, the other day, I had to check the bus schedule for my mom. She went out to the bus stop at that time and TheBus came on time and she was impressed with the services. more

Two bucks, unlimited destinations 9/23/2005

Honolulu's public transportation system, called simply "The Bus," has won a couple of national awards. After riding public transportation in other cities -- San Francisco, Las Vegas, and New York City -- it's clear to me why Honolulu's bus system ranks a notch above the rest. All buses in The Bus system are air-conditioned and most are relatively clean. Newer buses utilize GPS technology to provide street and landmark information via an electronic display and an audible announcement. Drivers are typically friendly and are quick to dispense route information or provide route maps if needed. Though the city was forced to raise fares over the last several years, the current one-way rate of $2 for adults and $1 for students (high school or younger) is reasonable. Also available are monthly passes ($40 adult/$20 students) good for unlimited rides, as well as a 4-day "vistitor's pass." more
