In response to the unhappy customer post on 7/5/12 8/10/2012

The Animal Hospital has tried to contact this client since we last saw her in October 2011. She then sent us an email on 7/5/12. We sent her an email responding to her concerns and have not gotten any response. The email we sent is listed in its entirety below. We truly care about Baby and her future. It is pets like her that make our job worthwhile. We wish her and her owners the best.\r \r Dear Mrs Sutherland, \r \r I sincerely apologize for any misgivings that I may have conveyed. Allow me to attempt to explain. \r \r I was not trying to accuse anyone, but attempting to ascertain that Baby was on an appropriate flea prevention, wherever it may have been purchased, because flea allergies are a huge problem and flea allergies are the first differential to rule out when looking at a pet with itchy skin. Heat rash is actually not a recognized dermatological condition in animals. Pets are more likely to develop pyoderma in a hot environment, but it is not Heat Rash. I even called the Veterinar more

This place is crazy...do not recommend this vet. I took my female Amstaff Terrior in because she had a rash on her belly and was digging it open. The vet looked at my chart and said that it was probably fleas as she said I hadn't been in for refills on her meds. She was very sarcastic and demeaning with her tone. I explained to her that I have had Baby on the meds and just because I didn't buy them from her at their ridiculous prices does not mean I am not treating my dog. She then looked at Baby Girl and diagnosed her with flea bites. I took her to another vet and they could not believe that they diagonosed her with flea bites and never gave me anything for the itch. They said that Baby Girl had a bad heat rash and medicated her to make her comfortable. Our new vet said that they have heard several complaints about the Animal Hospital of N. Charleston and took us (and our 3 pets) on as a new client. There are several vets in the Charleston area to choose one other than the An more

Very Knowledgeable and Educated Staff 11/23/2011

I am a new client of the Animal Hospital. My experiences at this professional veterinary hospital have been exemplary. Dr. Cain is an excellent veterinarian. Her staff is extremely organized. I recently had my puppy spayed and her staff called no less than three times to let me know that the spay had gone well and then they continued to check up on my dog the next week. The surgery site was excellent with no infection or suture irritation. Dr. Cain is truly a professional animal doctor and is focused on providing excellent medical care. My peace of mind knowing that I am paying for services by a properly educated and trained veterinarian is worth every penny. more

optimal veterinary care 9/29/2011

Wow, glad I didn't read these older reviews before I started going to The Animal Hospital and Dr Cain. My experiences were completely different.\r \r I've lived close by this vet clinic for over a decade but when I first visited this clinic years ago to see if we were compatible, the inside of the building looked completely different than it is now and not in a positive way. \r \r During this visit many years ago, I got claustrophobic the second I stepped inside. The waiting room was not an open space and very small. The walls had dark paneling and I did not get a good vibe. I then started going to a vet in Mt Pleasant that was a 45 min drive from my home.\r \r About a year ago when I was complaining about the long drive to the vet in Mt Pleasant, another pet lover said things had changed at The Animal Hosp. I drove by and noticed things looked different so I went inside and it was a completely different clinic and in a good way. The waiting room was a wide open space and I no longer more

worst vet 4/13/2010

i dont like this place at all. for one thing there prices r outrageous!!! second the staff dont seem to want to answer any of your questions and 3 they r not friendly. i brought my dog in for a check up and they said he had a million things wrong with him, such as being to stressed and wanted to give him "something to relax him". WTF??! my dog was very friendly and was happy not stressed. then they would go in to the back and wanted to run more and more tests. also when i got a puppy they wanted 115 for just the 1st round of puppy shots!! nothing else such as a deworm. i told them thats ridiculous when i can go to low country and get a free vet check, deworm, nail trim and all the puppy shots for 35. now wich sounds like a better deal? more

Animal Hospital-N Charleston is The most loving clinic I have ever been too 11/14/2009

I take my 9 year old lab there and i can say from experiance that Dr. Cain and her staff are the kindest people I have evre meet, the seemed very concerned about every aspect of Rusty's life, from his human food consumption( He was a bit over weight) To his dental care, I would reccomend every one with a pet that they love to bring them animal to Dr. Cain! more

From good to horrible 4/27/2009

I loved both Dr Roberts and Dr Turk when they worked here, but both of them have left and I suspect it's because of the vet (Dr Cain) who works there now. She was rude to me and just didn't seem to be a nice person. The staff is very nice but that doesn't make up for a "professional" who is anything but professional. I think that the most important qualities in a vet should be knowledge, a love of animals, and the ability to communicate with the animal's caretakers. I don't know if this vet has ANY of those three attributes. My husband and I are taking our animals elsewhere now, unless Dr Turk or Dr Roberts comes back. more

Disgusted client 2/11/2009

First off I would like to say that this used to be a very nice clinic! I came to this clinic when Dr Robert's owned it about a year or so ago and loved it! She was very knowledgeable and great with my animals. I also came after she sold the practice to Dr Turk and Dr Cain. The first time I came it was Dr Turk, who was very personable and also great with my animals. Not too long ago I came back and saw Dr Cain, very disappointing! She was very cold and obviously not an animal person, which is odd because she's the vet. She barley examined my pet at all and talked down to me the entire visit. I have never been treated like this by a professional and It was very upsetting. I found out that Dr Turk moved away shortly after owning the practice and moved to open another clinic in another state. That tells me that he must have had problems with Dr Cain who owns it now. I will not be returning to this clinic and am happy to inform everyone that Dr Robert's opened another clinic in J more

A Great Place For Your Pet 9/5/2008

The Animal Hospital in N Charleston has been been taking care of my Golden since she was a puppy, and the level of care and advice has always been terrific. Pricing for their time is competative, and meds and food are priced lower than average. Highly recommended. more

What a Vet Should Be 8/26/2008

I got my Australian Shepherd about a year ago and Dr. Cain is the only veterinarian he's ever seen. I was not around when Dr. Roberts was there, but it seems to me that the same excellent care the N. Charleston Animal Hospital was known for has continued or even improved with the new doctors. I had concerns about using a microchip as I'd heard about tumors, and Dr. Cain was kind enough to compile studies and scientific evidence dispelling those rumors and helping me make the right decision. She's given the same amount of care in helping me decide on the appropriate flea, tick, and heartworm medications. Although Goose has fortunately not suffered any major medical problems in my time with him, I can't imagine trusting any practice more than I do the Animal Hospital. more

Compassionate but Expensive- 8/7/2008

This vet used to be fantastic when it belonged to Ruth Roberts, but she no longer runs the hospital. The clinic has nice staff and they give compassionate care but it is very, very expensive and the vets don't seem to be that knowledgeable about tricky problems. I have had several issues which they diagnosed incorrectly and just kept wanting to do more and more expensive tests. \r \r Also, many of the prescription medicines are only supplied through an online service which is expensive and charges exorbitant shipping fees. more
