This place actually deserves 0 stars for giving themselves a 40% tip! My husband and 3 1/2 year old son tried this place for the first time for breakfast on Sunday, February 9, 2014, 8:30am. Our bill came out to be $23.50. They included an automatic $4.25 tip when we gave them a $15 restaurant.com gift certificate. We signed an extra $1.00 tip. However, when I received my credit card bill, they added an extra $4.00, for a total of $9.25 tip on a $23.50 tab! I'm so angry that we will never return to this restaurant again! It's the principle of the matter. It's to the customer's discretion on how much to give on tip and not to add extra tip without our knowledge. more

Arrived at Tecate well before they were to close so there was ample time for them to be able to give us great service as well as just plain old courtesy. When we arrived,I felt as if the waitstaff felt as if we(myself and my sister)were a burden to them. We ordered mixed drinks and proceeded to look at the menu. The drinks were brought, then that was it. The staff maintained complete oblivion to the fact that we were still waiting to be have our order taken for well over 45 mins and be served. We waited and waited. Still no service. I looked behind my sister and there found that the reason we weren't being waited on was due to the fact that the ENTIRE staff chose to sit down right in front of us and disregard our pleas for service-AND EAT THEIR OWN MEAL AND DRINK THEIR OWN MIXED DRINKS! As soon as I became aware that this was going on, I made eye contact with our waitress and tried to summon her over and she (as well as several of the staff) proceeded to talk about us negatively in Spanish! Fortunately, my blonde hair is DYED and I am very fluent in Spanish as I am very Mexican. Comments stated: ""Look at those stupid white bitches over there!"" ""HAHAHA! LOOK AT THEM WAITING TO BE SERVED-STUPID BITCHES!"" One staff member actually stated to our waitess that she needed to go over to us and she stated ""No-let them wait...stupid bitches...I'm gonna eat my dinner!"" There continued to be loud laughter at our ""so-called whiteness"". The staff showed absolutely no shame in their behavior. I was completely appalled! We put our money down on the table for the drinks that we ordered and it wasn't until we were walking out that ,with laughter of a whole group at our expense, that a LAUGHING waitress offered ""Oh, do you need something?"" We got up and stated ""No."" The staff never rose from their seats,offered an apology/explanation or anything. I would/will NEVER go here again and will let everyone know if you appear to be caucasian- you will not get any service and be talked about right in front of you if you aren't fortunate enough to speak or understand spanish! I have never been treated so horribly in a dining experience in all my life! more

The frozen margs are excellent, don't give me a headache like the ones at Tony's. Their spinach enchiladas and veggie tostadas are very good too. The guacamole is Excellent and large portion. We pick this place over Tony's due to the clean looking tile floor (not like the carpet at Tony's), and the place is more quiet. I do wish the bar was livelier but then I also wish I were 20 yrs younger. Oh well. A great neighborhood place to unwind. more

I disagree about the wow comment on their entrees. Apparently they never had the seafood soup. I don't know how this specialty of their has been missed. It is somewhat like a cioppino I have had . In a light tomatoe broth seasoned with cilantro, filled with onions, peppers, carrots, crab, fish and shrimp. Simply to die for , lo-cal too if you don't start dipping the tortillas into the broth, makes you feel better if you are sick and wonderful winter time food, but it is so good I order it even in the sweltering Houston summer heat ! more

Tecate is a ""typical"" TexMex restaurant. The food is pretty cheap and plentiful. You won't be ""Wowed"" by the entrees, but I doubt you'd complain either.\r \r Service is fast and friendly. Atmosphere is quaint.\r \r Most times I think about hitting up Tony's I end up at Tecate. It won't put Tony's out of business, but I bet Tony's will never cause Tecate to close down either. Pros: Fast, Cheap Cons: Nothing outstanding. Pretty standard fare. more

Great place. The food is excellent. I have tried most things on the menu and they are all good and very reasonably priced ... Waiters and waitresses are very friendly. Relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Cons: friendly, good food, good prices more

My wife and I are regulars at Tony's on Ella, but on the weekend, the crowds are usually out of the door....one Saturday we decided to try the Tecate because it is only up the road and we were happily rewarded...the place was full, but not crowded..the salsa was very spicy and homemade....the Margaritas were strong and tasty....the waiter was average and the entrees were tasty...overall, a good quick place for a burrito and a margarita! Pros: Inexpensive, Not Crowded more
