Servers are upset they didn't get the modeling/acting job: Diners get stuck with the attitude. Yipee, there is grass in the entrance. Overhyped, overpriced, and over it. Perfect place if you just moved here or are on vacation from Long Island/Buenos Aires/Kansas City and need to impress yourself with how much money you can throw away. Horrible food & service 4/29/2003

If you're in a group and made a reservation they'll seat you at a tiny table where you can't even move. Our waiter was a pompous moron. The lobster was tough. I don't understand all the positive local reviews. THEY MUST BE BRIBING THE LOCAL FOOD CRITICS. No one in their right mind could possibly like this place. Average - With the highs come the lows 4/23/2003

For a restaurant nominated for so many awards, Tantra did not meet our expectations. Our experience began with a 30+ min. wait for a table for 2 even with reservations. We were pleasantly surprised by the unique decor and ambience of the venue--grass floor and marble waterfall at the entrance and ""kama sutra"" playing at the bar. The music, however, was a bit too loud, making it difficult to hold a conversation without losing your voice. The wait staff was inattentive. Our waiter forgot to read us the specials; he forgot to bring us bread initially and we had to ask twice before getting it. The prawn appetizer was delicious, and the seared tuna and filet mignon were only mildly good. Although the food was decent, it was on the more expensive side. Excellent but overrated 4/21/2003

My dinning experience at Tantra was excellent. Nonetheless, the experience did not meet my expectations. I expected exceptional cuisine, commensurate with the prices, but I felt that I have had far better food at more reasonable prices. The ambiance was a definite experience, but in my opinion I was there for the full dinning/pampering experience, but there was more pampering than the level of cuisine than they claim. I do have two suggestions: try the afrodisiac shots, an outstanding drink, but don't drink too many, they will empty your pockets. more

dinner: the biggest SCAM. shame on them! interior is cool, but that's it. even for well-travelled manhattanites this place is absurdly expensive, esp. for what you get. filet mignon was $50 & utterly forgettable. an appetizer platter (3 shrimps, 3 oysters, and a few other non-spectacular seafood items) was $40 but worth only half price at best. have drinks & enjoy the views, then go somewhere else for dinner. Disgusted is the word that comes to mind 3/27/2003

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I love good dining experiences and wherever I travel throughout the world, I seek out trestaurants with the highest recommendations. We were seated in a cramped table with people on each side bumping our chairs throughout our meal. We ordered martinis - I finished mine before our meal arrived, however our waiter never once offered us another drink. I ordered the seared ahi - I love ahi! The piece of meat I received was fatty, had grissle/tissue throughout - probably 40% edible. When our waiter eventually returned to our table after we were finished (he wasn't busy- he was talking at the bar to the other waiters the entire time) he asked us how it was and I politely described my dissatisfaction with the meal. He didn't acknowledge my complaint...he simply walked away!! $180: 2 entrees, 2 martinis, water and a bowl of rice. What a joke. more

Terrible 3/19/2003

The worst part of the restaurant was the way they packed everyone in to maximize on table space to the point that whenever anyone sitting next to you had to get up, we had to hold our glasses and move our table to accomodate. Despite our generous and continual order of drinks, we were curtly then rudely told we had to finish and depart-our table was slated for someone else. When I spend $350+ (for two to dine), I do not think it is appropiate to be rushed to finish-at one point someone came and snatched our bread away following our meal despite the fact I was still eating AND requested it to be left. The food was mediocre at best and very overpriced. Save your money and go anywhere else-I got better service at Johnny Rocket's on South Beach! Cons: Overpriced, Mediocre Food, Crowded more

Tantra's is a modified garage! 3/17/2003

The food is good but I have had better for LESS COST. Drinks are about $15 a pop. Ridiculous! $30 for a shrimp cocktail. $50 for a steak. Want a good steak - go to capital grill in miami or shulas. OVER-priced,-hyped,-rated 3/5/2003

Totally Overhyped. Meal for 2 came to about $240 without wine, and was totally overpriced considering the quality. We had the 'Tantra Plate' to start - nothing to scream about at all, fairly bland... also be careful with offers of 'side of rice or risotto' - you might find it charged as an extra $15 (?) dish at the end. Nice cocktails and that was about it. The tables are q cramped so if u get unlucky you may spend the night being bumped by waiters too.... I would advise all my friends AGAINST going there. Worst in South Beach 2/22/2003

I live in South Beach and have gone to all the hot spots. Tantra is by far the worst. The awful experience begins at the door with class-lacking doormen with horrible attitudes that almost made me turn away. Unfortunately, I continued inside to the decent attempt at a trendy bar. The service and food were about as good as the service out front. The lackluster ambiance and the excruciating prices were enough to send me running out of the bar. I can't stress this enough-if you want to experience a good night in south beach-STAY AWAY FROM TANTRA!!!!!!!! Cons: rude service, tacky atmosphere, expensive more

Stand Clear! 1/2/2003

If you dont like the cheesy club scene, stand clear!!! Once passing the cheesy rope men, 3 nervously/frantic women greeted us by reading our reservation and barking youll have to wait till we call you they would give no time for a table, even though we were on time for our reservation and there were empty tables. We waited forever and finally left after our patience had run out. The drinks were good and I hear the food is good, but from the prices I saw, ($45+ per entree), it better be amazing to suffer through the attitude of the help. more

What a way to celebrate the new year!! 1/1/2003

New Years Eve 2002: Tantra informed me over the phone that there is a 2 hour maximum so I could eat at 8pm or 10pm and then we must leave the table. So, I made reservations for 10pm. I did not get seated until 11:52pm after pleading with the RUDE hostess. Then, expecting amazing food, I ordered the lobster entree....which was cold and undercooked ($64). We did not even get our champagne until the new years countdown!! I was so disgusted that I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. I truly believe that after all the hype....only wannabees would ever let themselves put up with the staff or service of this restaurant. I would rather have gone to Pearl Champagne Lounge and get the service that I paid for then have waitors knock me out of the way every five minutes...and with attitudes, too. ok, went to miami for a little get-away with my wife and stayed at the delano as usual-and due to the ""hype"" we checked out Tantra, i own a small bistro and 2 lounges here in ny-i have to be completely honest-this was the worst dining experience ever- a rushed, average and over, and i mean over priced meal--we truely couldnt wait to get our check and get the hell outta there--i was waiting to be charged---- for them opening the door for me when i ran out--stay away ! THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH IT 11/4/2002

Dinner for 2 was $400 and not even close to worth it. I didn't recognize most of the wine list so I asked for recommendations and the waiter promptly pointed to the $3000 bottle and then the $600 bottle that was ""almost as good"" even though the waiter had never tried either wine (the fact that they add an 18% gratuity to every check might have had something to do withit), BTW wine in South Beach tastes like it's been left out in the sun. After I paid the check, they made a scene at the front door accusing me or running out on the check, VERY EMBARASSING, but they couldn't be bothered to be discreet. I could write more but I'm limited to 150 words. All in all South Beach's day in the sun has passed and judging from what I saw at Tantra, I can see why. Not Impressed 10/25/2002

I have dined at Tantra a few times, and it has gone ""down hill"" to say the least! It is SO crowed and confined all the time, that it is difficult to enjoy the food that has been raved about. I went to the restaurant on a Friday night and it was a major rip off. The sitting was VERY tight and uncomfortable and the service left much to be desired. The food did not taste good and was ridiculously overpriced. A untasty meal for two totaled us $175 and the valet charged $18 to boot!! Cons: Crammed more

I've heard about Tantra for some time now and was looking forward to going this past weekend. However, I was extremely disappointed with the restaurant. If this is Miami's idea of ""romantic"", then I've missed the boat... What about the food...please $41 for a piece of fish with a blan sauce. I prepare fish at home with more flavor.
