Best Indian Restaurant in all of NYC!!! 8/4/2009

I love Tandoor! Their food is delicious! The decor is amazing!! This place is beautiful and did I mention the food is delicious? I love Indian food and I love to try Indian restaurants all over the city. Tandoor is simply the very best Indian food I have had outside of India! They catered my sisters wedding shower and everyone raved about the food! I plan to come back again and again!! Pros: Amazing atmosphere delicious food more

, FILTHY 5/1/2009

Tandoor used to be good. However, their quality and especially SERVICE has truly suffered over the years. They currently have a wait staff that does not like to do their job unless they think you will tip them well. As many of you may already know, the normal tipping rule of thumb does not apply for buffets as you are serving yourself. Depending on my given mood, I would leave large to no tip. The past few weeks, I haven't been leaving as much tip and noticed that the wait staff were giving me dirty looks and completely avoiding our table & the tables of a few others. I tested this theory the last three times I went back and noticed the same. The food quality has also deteriorated leaving only one choice of meat dish other than tandoori chicken. The food is always cold or not refilled in a timely manner. I used to recommend Tandoor to all my friends but would never do it now. They seriously need to re-train or turnover their waitstaff. They are UNPROFESSIONAL, discriminatory in their service & will use silent intimidation tactics to get their message across!!! The past few times I've been there, I had to ask several times for our water glasses to be refilled. The table next to us was irate with the service as well and put in a formal complaint to management at which point, the waitor ignored their comment, held his head up high & claimed he actually was management!! I should also mention that management was only mildly apologetic even though the waitor had aggresssively stepped into the personal space of the complaining patron, pointing to the check & demanding a 15% tip~!!!!!!!! Anyone considering Tandoor should think twice. Besides the TERRIBLE SERVICE (especially the very petite waitor with the large forehead, who walks with a spring in his step, who outright made fun of patrons who left without leaving tip), the restaurant is DIRTY!! I see the same stains every time I go there: the carpet, walls, glass...everything looks covered with a film of dust. They also have cushioned seating that wraps around the sides and they are FILTHY!! The color of the cushions are supposed to be a green print but are black where the seat is. it is truly disgusting and has gotten worse over the past year. If anyone is thinking about opening up an indian restaurant in or around rego park & forest hills...it will not take much to achieve a complete monopoly in this area. There are many here who simply love Indian food but have no place to go! There is Baluchi's, however, people for whatever reason have not been satisfied with them either. However, they are much fancier, cleaner..more expensive but worth it for the nice ambience. Tandoor looks dilapidated in comparison! ...actually dilapidated period! Cons: Dirty, Terrible service, Food is just ok...very limited more

What are these people thinking? 6/9/2008

ok please listen to me. don't come to this place for the lunch buffet. perhaps the dinner is better, who knows? the first day i came for lunch, it was 2:40, and i was not allowed to have the buffet. the sign states that i can have the buffet until 3pm. the next time i came in, there were hardly any people there. the decor is excellent, i must say, but it had an empty feeling without the people. the item selections are so limited. it is by the far the worst selection i've seen. jackson heights, chicago, vancouver, and other places have much better choices. where are the mini masala dosas? where is the chicken tikka masala? where are the desserts besides kheer? i am indian, and this is not quality indian food. the service was good, i must admit. the host isn't friendly, but the waiters poured water every 5 seconds, or so it seemed. this place knows that it can rip off caucasians and make it seem as if they are getting a great deal out of it. stick to the dinner... Pros: waiters, location, ambience Cons: everything else not mentioned in the pros section more

Best Indian in NYC 9/25/2007

My wife and I have been to most of the top Indian restaurants in Manhattan and Jackson Heights, but this Rego Park gem is by far the best. Decor is nice, service is great, reasonable prices, and the best Indian food in NYC. We have not been to the buffett (we go to Jackson Dinner if we want an Indian lunch) but for a nice dinner the Tandoor Restaraunt is the best. You can get a fine bottle of white wine for under $20 and most of the entrees are between $10 and $15.\r \r Added bonus: Being able to see the chef cook with a tandoor oven is a lot a fun. Pros: Best Indian in NYC Cons: You have to be adventurous enough to go to Rego Park more

My favorite Indian place 11/7/2006

The food here is great. The service is very friendly and attentive. The lunch buffet always has a good selection, although the buffet on weekends is better than weekdays. Treat yourself to a dinner too and branch out from typical buffet offerings. Pros: Close to subway. Cons: Rare available street parking, but you can park in the Sears' pay parking lot a half-block away. more

Great food, good service 3/25/2006

The dinner special is amazing, although I would pick the meat option rather than seafood. You get several courses, and enough food to feed two or even three. But order enough to take some home! I haven't had anything I didn't like here. The food is authentic, and the service always attentive. The decor is nice although I suppose the place could use a little renovation. This restaurant is in Rego Park, not Flushing. Parking is not the most convenient, but it's not even one block from the subway at 63rd Dr. Pros: Authentic food, Lunch buffet Cons: Limited parking more
