Tan Tan Fast Food 9/11/2005

First things first. The menu is huge! I had to turn the waiter away 3 times before finally getting to the last page. Then I had to turn him away 2 more times because I forgot what I want to order on page 16. Kidding aside, the food's decent though I must say it's not the best around. Average for my taste, being a frequent visitor to the Bellaire area. Probably the lack of specialization? You can find Vietnamese, Chinese combinations of rice and noodles. Lost in all the variety is a pretty good luk-luk or hot pot selection. Go there during the Chinese New Year celebrations, and you'll be treated by a traditional lion dance display on the parking lot to usher in the new year. more

Picky Eater Surprise 8/23/2005

My mother is a horribly picky eater. If its not a potato or a tomato, she wants no part of it. Since my husband is Chinese, this poses a problem when we eat out as an extended family. Imagine our surprise when we took my mother to Tan Tan for hot pot and SHE LOVED IT! We ordered the beef and shrimp only as my mother hates all things fish. We have tried other restaurants hot pot but nothing has quite the same good flavour as Tan Tan. Other menu items here have much to be desired. But we keep returning for the hot pot, that is a huge meal in itself. more

Expensive and not great 8/13/2005

I went there with 6 friends. Their eggroll/pancake is delicious but otherwise the food is not really great. They have a huge menu but its confusing and there is hardly any vegetarian food. It was also quite pricy for the food quality. I felt the oil in my stomach afterwards , overall i was quite dissapointed. more

Good Oriental Food 8/8/2005

This restaurant is famous for its Banh Bot Chien. It is a fried savoury rice flour cake mashed up with an egg and served over a bed of shredded raddish with a smattering of spring onions and a soy sauce dip. This appetizer is excellent. There is a diverse assortment of rice or noodle plates. You can eat family style or single dishes. It is one of the most popular restaurants on Bellaire. more
