Best Seafood by far 2/21/2009

The most amazing seafood I have ever eaten in a resturant. I had Sauteed Calamari served on a bed of shaved fennel & yogurt, delish, and the calamari was so tender, i wanted to order another dish. My husband had a fish dish I forgot the name, but will never forget the taste can't wait to go back I need to found out the name of that dish. Pros: everything Cons: the seats are a little uncomfortable more

indifferent and arrogant 11/8/2007

I am no stranger to Taboon. I have been going since they opened a few years ago. I always had great service and good food. That being said, I will never set foot in there again. I brought a friend whom had never been few nights ago and right off the bat the hostess was very rude. We didn?t have a reservation and she was pressuring us to be finished and out the door in an hour and a half. It took forever to get our food and the waitress never thought to apologize or let us know why it was taking so long. When it finally came, it was so salty I didn?t even want to finish it. For the amount of money you spend for a meal there, it is not worth your time and energy. This is the first time I?ve ever thought to post a review. I wanted people to know that this eatery is on a serious decline. Pros: ambience Cons: rude hostess, indifferent oweners more

A hidden gem of a restaurant 9/24/2007

Went last week with my boyfriend and was pleasantly surprised by amazing service and delicious food. The hot bread and mediterranean plates were fantastic . This is without a doubt one of the hidden gems in the neighborhood. We'll be back soon. We also loved the wood burning oven!! Pros: food, service Cons: not near subway more

Great Middle Eastern in Hells Kitchen 3/24/2007

I hardly ever go out in this area but went for someone's birthday. I was pleasantly surprised, The food especially the crab meat salad was very good and my fish special was delicious. The atmosphere is very nice and warm. I would highly recommend for the area. It is a nice place for a date, family dinner or friends. My service was fine so the one bad review I didn't experience. Pros: ambiance, great for the area Cons: prices not as cheap as spme middle eastern places more

Takes Middle Eastern cuisine to new heights 3/21/2007

This is the best middle eastern restaurant in town. I am a native of israel, and every time i have taken friends to this place everyone loved everything they ordered and they made me proud. Personally, the humus dish is the best i've had, miles better than even humus place in the east village (which is the next best). I also love the lamb kebabs which sadly i order every single time. Atmosphere is great - not noisy, and the staff is always cheerful. Highly recommended! more

Awesome Middle Eastern! 10/22/2006

Taboon is an upscale version of your typical Middle Eastern restaurant. The waitstaff is impeccable, the space is gorgeous and made for fine dining and the food is good enough to make your mouth water. The lamb shank is juicy and delicious with the meat falling easily off the bone. The other entress had were quite good as well. They included short ribs and halibut. There is a tiny bit of a table rush/false reservation need but, other than that, the place is excellent. more

A good reason to visit 1oth Avenue 10/2/2006

Although it was a little out of the way for us (we came from Brooklyn) Taboon was definitely worth the trip. My parents were in from out of town and love Mediterranean food and we decided to try it based on the raves on citysearch. We were seated promptly, the food was absolutely delicious (the bread is unbelievable and each of the four of us had something different: osso bucco, short ribs, filet and halibut and we all firmly believe we ordered the best thing on the menu). The waiter was attentive and made great drink recommendations. This place is perfect for before the theater or any time that you just want a delicious, low key meal. Dining at the bar looked like a great option as well. more

Wonderful food! 8/17/2006

We've eaten at Taboon many times - alone and with friends (who've liked it so much they've come back with other friends). The ambience is just right - candles everywhere, tables not crowded together and it's not too noisy. The food is wonderful! Make sure to get the flatbread straight from the taboon - delicious! My favorite appetizer is the sea scallop. All their seafood entrees are delicately flavorful and beautifully presented. My husband likes their meat dishes - osso buco, steak and lamb all prepared with very tasty Mediterranean seasonings. Their desserts are the best! My only negative is the spotty service - sometimes attentive, sometimes slow. Overall it's a great restaurant definitly worth the trip west! Pros: Food & ambience Cons: spotty service more

Amazing Food 8/15/2006

I've been here 2x each was excellent. Love the apps, wine, entrees & desserts. Service was tip top as well. Can't wait to go back! Pros: food & atmosphere more

Highly Disappointed! 6/4/2006

I live in the area and have been to Taboon a few times with friends. The food was tasty but nothing so special. Then I learned that all the meat prepared in a pork glaze....including the chicken! I find it unethical for a restaurant not to list this on the menu. Intresting enough every other ingrediant down to the parsley was listed on the menu...but another meat wasn't? So wrong! Also the service was quite off putting. I noticed that a lot of waiters were approaching my table but the service was not any better. Messages were lost between the waitstaff or something. I waited a long time for my drink. (So long that it prevented me from increasing their sales by getting more possible drinks) If i just saw my one waiter the whole night I would have known who to talk too. more

Love the bread and Branzino. 5/9/2006

The restaurant has a great ambience and the food is great. If you are not so hungry then share a few of the appetizers with your frien kadayif and the sea scallops. If you are in the mood for a whole fish, I highly recommend the branzino. It is delicately flavored with rosemary and baked to perfection. Tender and juicy. Superb. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

Great Spot 1/17/2006

I've always had a great experience at Taboon. Good menu (lamb shank to die for), wine list and service. Recently, I hosted a party of 20 and the restaurant host could not have been more accomodating. Everyone had a great time and the food was very good. It is off the beaten path, but worth the trip! Pros: food, service more

OUTSTANDING 1/12/2006

We visited this restaurant over the New Years Weekend and were amazed by the entire experience. We dine in the city often and this was a great find. The waitress was exceptional, the food was incredible not to mention the great atmosphere. The waitress recommended a greek wine they had just started serving and it was out of this world. We had 2 children with us and they enjoyed the place and the food as well although it would really work for a romantic dinner for 2 perfectly. Going back this weekend for my birthday. Pros: Food, Service, Atmoshphere Cons: Not one more

Great Service, Great Food, Great Night... 12/4/2005

I went there last night for my anniversary, and the place was unbelievable. We got there before our reservation and the seated us quickly. The atmosphere was really relaxing, the lights are dim and there are candles at every table, even the noise was quiet (there were about 25 tables in the whole place...great place for a date). The staff there is SO nice and the service is GREAT! The food was even better and the prices very reasonable...Will absolutely go back!!! Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere more

Terrific Taboon!! 11/7/2005

This unpretentious restaurant with quality food to rival the best in the City gave us a wonderful evening. Service was outstanding. Our waitress was most helpful with suggestions from the unique menu. The flatbread was warm, flavorful and a specialty of this restaurant. The tables were set so that you were not squeezed next to your neighbor. From appetizers through dessert--everything was ""more than expected""--a meal we are still talking about. Pros: Professional Service, Unique Food, Ambience Cons: a bit noisey more

Lovely Monday Night! 8/2/2005

Been there for Brunch - food was great - atmosphere was warm and inviting. Went for dinner on a Monday - did not need a reservation - though it was quite full. Staff was very nice.... The place looks upscale from outside but has a very relxing atmosphere. There was a band on Monday night....fabulous! Spanish music......the ambiance - the music - the food made you feel like you were on vacation in Greece or Spain and made you wish you were going to the medditerranean soon. Few people got up and danced - flamenco-ish - belly-dancing - very fun atmosphere without being loud and overbearing. Food was definitely good! Romantic yet group place. Kids at brunch would work well. Pros: Ambiance, Food, Band on Monday night more

Absolutely Brilliant! 6/16/2005

I had a client requesting 'Anything but STEAK' for dinner. Being a frequent business diner I was ready for something different. I had heard of Taboon and gave it a try. What a wonderful dining experience. Service was very, very good. The waitresses detailed explanation help both of us choose from the wonderful range of choices. We decided on several appetizers, the clear winner was the sardines, something I normally wouldnt have tried. The osso bucco was excellent but the chicken was outstanding. The desserts were unbelievable, each very unique. Chocolate cake was rich but worth every calorie. My companion had the Silan which was just the way to finish an excellent meal. The evening was first-rate. Service, food and ambience all were of the highest quality. I will certainly be back to try some of the things I missed this time. Pros: original , choices, fresh more

LOVE IT ! 3/6/2005

I am so happy I found this little gem right in Clinton(Hell's Kitchen). This block was so in need of an amazing restaurant and it has found it in Taboon. The white tables and walls give it a cool, relaxed,Mediterranean feel to it. The servers are very friendly, helpful and relaxed(but just the right amount, they are still attentive), you could linger at your table for hours after dinner. I went for brunch and the food was excellent. Try the Eggs benedict (not like any you have had before with a skirt steak and their amazing bread). The bread they bring to the table is sooo yummy. Fresh baked and warm, with rosemary & spices. This place gets an A+. I will definitely be back ! Pros: Food, atmosphere, Bread, ambience, Servers, good Parking more

Great place to eat and have a good time! 1/10/2005

We've been here many times but haven't reviewed for a while as we've gotten lazy! We went to Taboon for an early dinner (7:00 PM) on a Tuesday night with friends from Israel. The place was very busy for a Tuesday night. We were promptly seated (with reservations for four) and promptly served. Our server was wonderful and informative about dishes and wine. We shared a number of dishes and EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS! We started with the mussels and zucchini cakes...all were perfectly cooked and yummy....everyone who has ever eaten here knows the bread and hummus are infamous and delicious so make sure you get plenty of both. We had Sea Bass, Flank Steak and the Taboon Chicken...DELICIOUS and perfectly cooked...just make sure to tell them to go easy on the salt...as they tend to over -salt!! Why???...we don't know as the food is so good without it. We had the chocolate (lava) cake and Silan for dessert...amazing. This place is a must, and a gem and a find for someone who doesn't want to play into the ""TOP 10 EXPENSIVE NY RESTAURANTS!"" Enjoy! Pros: GOOD PARKING, GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE Cons: , NONE, NONE more
