I read some other reviews here about other colorists at Taboo - I didn't realize they had so many good ones because I know they have my favorite!!! have gone to Ernie on and off...

I had to wait for a while to see how i i am gonna feel about my hair, but everytime the feeling is the same. I dont like the cut! this is the first time in a long time that i hate...

Ernie is an amazing colorist 11/1/2011

I read some other reviews here about other colorists at Taboo - I didn't realize they had so many good ones because I know they have my favorite!!! have gone to Ernie on and off for 10 years or so. The only time I'm off is when I can't make it into LA to see him (I've moved around a lot). I'm in Ventura now and he is definitely worth the drive (but, he was the best when I was living in NY, SF and LA, too)......I am a brunette, I like being a brunette but it is really hard to get a color that doesn't wash me out or make my hair brassy. Ernie somehow can find that sweet spot where my hair looks rich, healthy and shiny and I end up with all kinds of compliments. If I do highlights, he'll do them either subtle and natural (my preference) or trendy and stylish - which also looks great. You will never go wrong going to Ernie! more

Aaron is THE BEST Colorist in Town!!! 10/28/2010

Taboo's colorist, Aaron Blackburn, has never let me down in over 3.5 years!! He knows how to bring out brilliant distinctions for blondes without resorting to bleach. My hair is a mixture of cremes, winter whites, and butter creme colors that combine to make a truly glowing finish! And if that wasn't enough, Aaron is very experienced doing bridal hair, updos, and make-up too!! He takes his time and treats my hair with VIP care and attention to detail:) I highly recommend Aaron at Taboo!!!! more

I am in a great mood. I love my hair!!! I got one of the best cuts of my life and it is perfect in every way. I was referred to Jovan by a friend who always has the cutest cuts who said she's been seeing Jovan for about 4 years.. I wanted an edgy layer cut with heavy bangs that rounded down the sides and what did I get?! exactly that and more. He mentioned the Brazilian Blowdry to tame my somewhat out of control hair and talked about it like it was his child. He really believes in that product and after he tried it out on my bangs.. Im going back for more- its amazing. He really wants his clients to feel beautiful and you can feel it. \r I got the by one of the best stylists at Taboo and his name is Jovan. Pros: perfect cut. perfect style. Cons: nothing. more

Jovan is so incredibly talented. He has a new process called a Brazilian Blowdry. I have shoulder length hair that is pretty curly/wavy but becomes GIGANTIC and very frizzy whenever I blowdry it. Jovan suggested the Brazilian Blowdry and now I HAVE BRAND NEW HAIR. It is so soft and shiny and it completely restored my hair. I am absolutely AMAZED at the difference. I finally have the hair that I have always been jealous of. The cut he gave me is the best I have ever had. He spent so much time and followed up with me the next day -- he's an absolute PERFECTIONIST. I think he actually cared more that I did -- and I care a lot. I have been to many hair salons all over the country and I have NEVER HAD ANYONE THIS TALENTED work on my hair. I wont go to anyone else! Pros: Brazilian Blowdry more

I have been going to DESHANI for over 3 years. She's helped me obtain every shade of brown and when I was finally bored with brown she transformed me into a beautiful blonde without damaging my hair. She's professional, always flexible with MY schedule and I never received more compliments since going to her. I recently moved and she graciously wrote out my hair color formula and directions on an index card for me to take with me! You dont find many people willing to do that... she really cares about her clients and their satisfaction! I would recommend her to anyone! Pros: Flexible schedule, superb service & professional experience Cons: I couldn't take her with me when I moved! more

Jovan is superb 3/19/2009

For 2.5 years the only Person to touch my head has been Jovan. It is hard for to find the right stylist that can really give you what you ask for- really give you something more. I always change my look- I give Jovan an Idea and he never let's me down. He takes it beyond and above what is asked. He is extremely thorough and precise and never let's you out of the chair unless every single hair is in place. Fantastic. I am glad he finally found a salon that suits him and his clients' needs. I followed him from his last ""salon"" and I can tell you- this is where it's at!!\r Go see Jovan . I doubt you'd regret it.\r Pros: great cuts and blowdrys more

THe Best Salon in the US 1/1/2009

I have been going to Taboo since it first opened. I believe that I have had my hair cut by many of the stylists, Esther being one of them. She was amazing!!!! One of the best cuts I have had in a very long time!!!! I actually fly to LA from NY a few times a year to get my hair colored by Robert, who is amazing, probably one of the best in the world, but Aaron and Ernie are great themselves... I also have my haircut as well... I would trust about all the stylists there... And best of all is the big smile and great greeting you receive from Gina, the salon manager!! A great trendy warm atmosphere, with an amazing array of people to help you look your BEST!!!! more

Esther is no good! 12/2/2008

I had to wait for a while to see how i i am gonna feel about my hair, but everytime the feeling is the same. I dont like the cut! this is the first time in a long time that i hate my hair style. Esther, my hairdresser, didint listen well to what i wanted and even didint deliver what she suggested. the layers are not proportinal at all, i have a part of my hair that is not in any way related to the other part ( big gap between layers). overall, she is not experienced enough to face more challenges, she only cuts what she knows and doesnt think or create more then that. I think the people at sueprcut or fantastic sam would do a better job!or even those salons in downtown LA for only 7$; the cut that she did for me is very average and has lots of ""holes"" in it......\r I've been to a lot of salons from federic feccai to Fresno Salons, to France Salons, and this one is not worth the price nor loosing inches of your hair for nothing..... good luck with Esther, you'll need it.\r Pros: they take cash?! Cons: no parking and if you have too much hair, she'll let you know about it i na negative way not a compliment. more

Fantastic cut, great price! 10/18/2008

I live in the area and needed a new salon that was close, affordable, and most of all, could cut long hair really well. BEST EXPERIENCE since I've been in LA! My hair has never looked this great before- ask for Deshani, she's amazing with cut! I'm considering going back for a color- if I do, she'll def be doing it! Kudos! Pros: Affordable, great staff, friendly Cons: Nada! more

I HAVE followed Emily because she is the best razor cutter in this town - if you have poker straight, thin hair and want volume, a great cut, texture, style - fun - she is the person! I have been everywhere in town and she's the best! more

Best Salon in LA 10/10/2008

There is nothing stuffy or uncomfortable about Taboo Hair Salon. Rather it feels as if you have entered a friend's cozy home and she just happens to be styling your hair over a cup of tea! I have been going to Emily for at least a decade now and have enjoyed each fresh, new look. She is fantastically creative and very intuitive about the change you REALLY need but can't always articulate. The end result never disappoints. If you are looking for an easy, breezy salon, try Taboo. If you are looking for a great new stylist and fantastic conversation, try Emily at Taboo. Pros: Friendly, comfortable atmosphere Cons: Parking, but the Salon does put quarters in your meeting! more

20 Years & Still Holding!! 8/27/2008

TABOO was recommended to me by a friend when I first came to LA and fate dropped me into Emily's talented and caring hands. Almost 20 years later she still delivers the best mens cut in town. The salon and staff have always been inviting, courteous and professional: if you're looking to be impressed by pretension, MOVE ON! With its relaxed atmosphere, TABOO still remains one of my favorite places to escape to. Great cuts - great people. Check them out. You won't be disappointed! Pros: Talented cutters & relaxing atmosphere Cons: Haven't had a CON yet! more

Emily knows 8/15/2008

Great Customer Service and The Best Hair and Color in Town 8/14/2008

Ok-\r I have been going here forever and Emily (cut) and Ernie (color) save my life\r They cut hair and color my grey and make me feel like I don't need therapy. \r Not only are they amazingly talented, but they are sweet, friendly, put money in your meter and you've never looked better. \r On occasion I have had to go elsewhere and have always regretted it. GO NOW!!!!\r Susannah more

Taboo: Great Salon! 8/14/2008

I've been going to Taboo for many years and have always been very satisfied with the work and the service. In particular, Emily is a tremendous stylist and is able to cut my problematic hair just the way I like it. She is precise and careful with every cut....and lots of fun and laughs in the process. \r \r Everyone at the salon, especially the owners, Robert and Gill, are friendly and accommodating. \r \r I highly recommend Taboo! more

Relaxed atmosphere, love Emily's haircuts. 8/5/2008

This is a great salon with a friendly relaxed atmosphere. A lot of British people work there so you can always count on a great cup of tea! They also do great colour and massage your head while you are getting your hair washed. Bliss! I have been having my hair cut by Emily for years and so have many of my friends, She can rescue any bad hair day and send you off feeling and looking GREAT! Emily is a very talented cutter and will give you something that suits your face and personality as well as being very chic and modern with lots of movement and style. Thanks Emily for making me look and feel great!! \r \r Easy to park in the Beverly connection opposite. more

Clean, professional, fun people, Ernie does the best color! 5/29/2008

Well, I've tried other colorists (three) and by far Ernie is the BEST!!! He's fun, charming, talented (he's fixed my hair twice when I went to others). I'm half Asian and have naturally very dark brown hair. He makes me look like a natural blonde! Even girls with light brown hair who get highlights can't tell.... unless my roots are long. He and the other people there ROCK! I've spent many hours at Taboo, and watched clients come and go. Everyone who comes in walks out looking great! Doesn't matter if it's a cut, color or other process, they do a great job at all of it! Pros: Great staff, light, bright, and fun atmosphere Cons: Parking is a biatch. It's best to park at Beverly Connection and walk. But they feed the meter for you if you get lucky! more

I have a question not really a review 4/11/2008

This isn't really a review, but a question for those that have left reviews. I live in NY and will be traveling to CA, I need a hair salon for a special event (possibly an updo or just blown out and curly or straight), I was wondering if anyone knows or would recommend this place for that type of service. I've been reading the reviews here and see a lot about how wonderful their haircuts are, also I was wondering what type of salon this is, is it upscale? nice? small? Any information would be helpful, thanks. more

Gr8 service! 4/10/2008

I went to Taboo to see Erik who i heard is is great with short dos. Overall It was a lovely experience.\r \r The highlight was the scalp massage. I felt absolutely rejuvinated after the scalp massage I recieved from Tiffany. She really had an experienced touch and had lots of answers for me. She identified what kinds of products I needed for my problem hair and scalp. She was knowlageable and really took the time to explain more about some of the products I was curious about. I highlhy reccomend this salon. more
