I had plans to dine at Table 8 with a large group of friends coming into town and when the plans fell through my husband and I kept the reservation. All I can say is thank goodness we didn't subject our friends to this place!
The room and the hotel are lovely but the appeal ends with the aesthetics! We started with the rabbit sausage and duck prosciutto from the Salt bar which were both okay. The waiter mentioned that the prosciutto went well with the bread they serve and after about 5 mins of it sitting on our table I finally had to ask someone else for some bread. If the guy was going to recommend it paired with something you would think it would register that we didnt have it when he put down the prosciutto?
Nothing really jumped out at either of us for a main course and I finally decided to go with the Organic Salmon and my husband had the Filet Mignon. My salmon was fine, a little overcooked and nothing special but the presentation was fairly terrible. The butternut squash that I was excited about was actually hard little cold cubes positioned next to a tanish smear of something I couldn't remember from the menu. The squash seriously appeared to be something that had been spooned out a Gerber jar and thrown on the plate. My husbands meat was fine but he had instructed our server to bring him a glass of red wine with his meal and of course, we had to ask someone else for it when it did not arrive with our food.
The room itself is very noisy, it didnt particularly bother me, as a frequent diner in NYC you often it expect it. And it did afford me the opportunity to overhear that the couple sitting next to us were having a similar bad experience as I heard the server apologize that the women didnt like her scallops! So i'd say avoid those also!
We looked at the dessert menu for about 30 seconds and decided to just get out of there! This place has potential but they are in desperate need of a re-staffing and Govind Armstrong needs to take control of this kitchen! Perhaps, keep an eye on it and if it gets a major revamp check it out, otherwise stay away! Or go for drinks at the bar hopefully they can't mess those up.
Pros: Atmosphere, Crowd
Cons: Service, Food, Noise Level
