Is great food worth poor service? 8/20/2009

Sushi Rock could turn a hater into a lover. Their rolls are unlike anyone else's, but they are not served with a smile. Lucky during the wait (I recommend making reservations), you can have drinks at the bar. They have an extensive sake menu with all kinds of cocktails. My date tried one with TY KU and coconut water.. so good! Pros: delicious menu Cons: service more

One of the best Sushi in Ohio 9/29/2008

this was the first time we went and it was GREAT! We went late in the evening so it was restaurant/ bar scene which was invigoratting hearing the hustle and bustle of the bar and restaurant. We have always loved sushi and tried a many restaurants and I gotta say Sushi Rock ROCKS. Their portions are so extreme compared to other sushi places its was a good deal in pricing. The sushi menu had alot of variety and the sushi was premium. I would give it two thumbs up! It may be pricy to some but it equal outs w/ the portion size. The service was great. At first when they seated us, it was besides the kitchen which had too much traffic, but asking for another table wasn't a problem. The waitress was very attentive. Next time we're up in Cleveland, Sushi Rock would always be on our agenda. Pros: great food Cons: too loud music more

THE PLACE IS RUN LIKE A ZOO 3/25/2007

OK, so when we arrived on Thursday nite to dine, we didnt have reservations. The manager, who has a little pug face, I think he was the general manager, acted like we off-ed someone that we didn't have a reservation. Are you kidding me? We finally get sat an hour later. Our server was ok, but some stuff got screwed up on our food order and she called over her boss. We explained to him what we really ordered, and what we recieved, and his response was, ""So? Have you ever been here on Tsunami night before?"" We said yes. He said,""Then you should know not to expect everything you want."" Then he walked away! What an a-hole. Our server kept apologizing for him. But seriously, never again. I feel bad for the people that have to work with him Pros: half of sushi Cons: poor management more

i love it! 10/5/2006

we come here about once a week, usually on wednesdays, for half-off sushi night, it's always crowded and kinda clastrophobic feeling but it's SO GOOD! recommended! more

Great sushi, great drinks, great music 6/15/2006

Sushi Rock is definately my favorite downtown dining sopot. Wednesday nights are a lot of fun, but any day is great. My friends and I frequent both spots (West 6th and Beachwood), but prefer downtown. The sushi is great. I highly recommend the philadelphia roll with salmon, the crab stick salad roll, and the spicy salmon. I have also had their crab cakes which are great. The best martini is the French Grape. Good luck only having one! Above all else though my favorite item there (besides the sushi) is the Arugula salad with fresh berries. Strawberries, blueberries, goat cheese, and some kind of nuts all topped off with amazing strawberry vinagrette dressing. One word: YUM!\r The atmosphere is definately busy, but that's what makes it fun. If you want boring go to Bob Evans!!! The servers are mostly good. Every once in a while you will get someone not so great, but the food totally makes up for it. Also if going on a Wednesday night BE PATIENT!!! You can't expect fast sushi when the place is jam packed. Again, I think that it's fabulous because you can have drinks and relax with friends while waiting. Why be in a hurry? The atmosphere rocks!!! Only negative thing I can think of is sitting at the small tables by the restrooms is horrible. Once I was sat there though and asked a manager to move. He moved me within five minutes and was very helpful. Pros: great food and drinks, fun atmosphere Cons: not the greatest service more

RUDE SERVICE, DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE 6/11/2006

I used to be a regular at this restuarant and the new one in beachwood. been there on all various days and used to frequent there wednesday. it's true, it's a great place for people watching but the food gas always been okay. went there recently and ordered the spicy crunch roll. there wasn't any yellowtail in the roll at all. i talked to the waiter, whom sent over the manager...he got upset and said i didn't know how sushi was made. he was very rude and seemed annoyed. the truth is, i've worked in a sushi restuarant before and know how to identify what yellowtail looks like. i walked out of the restuarant and will never go back. they are extremely rude and treat you as though they are doing you a favor. it's not worth the hassel and bad food to come back to this place. you will feel ripped off! Pros: people watching Cons: extremely rude and terrible service more

Hottest Spot in Cleveland on Wednesdays 3/15/2006

Great spot to get Sushi/Drinks on Wed. but make sure to get reservations at least a week prior. Smaller sushi is half-off on Wednesdays from 5-9 and it's always packed. Getting a drink at the bar can be tough given the small area. Make sure to have your whole party there or you won't get seated. It's a great place for people watching, I've seen tons of Browns/Cavs/Indians players there and gorgeous women. The sushi is pretty good, but your mainly paying for the environment which consists of trendy lighting and a good live house DJ. The service is average-poor, but like I said, you're paying for the scene. I recommend it for a good meal or a place to grab a drink with a date on the weekends. Pros: People Watching, Sushi, Atmosphere Cons: Service, Wait more

Check It Out! 11/4/2005

This was my first experience w/sushi, not planning to enjoy it I LOVED it! The Calamari was AMAZING - best I've ever had. We had the Cali rolls, spicy Cali rolls, & Sake (stick w/the pear if you don't like it strong). Our server was rather snooty and only there for our money, tables were crowded and the place was really loud but I would still go back. Great ambience!! Two couples, appetizer, dinner and drinks $140 w/tip, not too bad. Definitely make reservations. Pros: Food, Atmosphere Cons: Service, Crowded, Loud more

Amazing experience! 1/17/2005

We took friends from Columbus to Sushi Rock before a show at the Playhouse and had an amazing dining experience! The quality and quantity of food were great. The rolls were huge! We order about 10 different things in total and we all agreed that everything was fabulous. The Calimari appetizer was good too. The service was very good as well. The best part? We got out the door for $140 including tip. Where else can you go downtown for $70 a couple for dinner and drinks? Pros: Excellent food, Great service, Reasonably priced more

Go for the sushi, not the service 7/24/2004

I have to admit that I don't eat sushi, but the presentation was so fantastic, I found myself stuffing my face with sushi. The place really buzzes with activity and this is the place the hip, young crowd flocks to. But if you get a server with an accent, you will be in for a some poor service. Ours was down right unfriendly. We only had one drink during the entire meal because she never came back to ask us if we wanted another one. She basically was there to take our order and our money, that was it. But still go, but go for the sushi and the atmosphere, not the service. I stand by my review and will not change any wording. I don't know how else to explain my server. Pros: Sushi, Atmosphere, Fun crowd more

Amazing Sushi, Good service 9/10/2003

I eat here 2+ times a week and I've never been disappointed. Quality and freshness of the sushi is always high making for great tasting sushi. Presentation of the rolls is very artistic. Service is usually good, but can fluctuate, especially on Wednesday with Sunami nite(1/2 price maki rolls), which is busy and very crowded. If you want a more relaxed experience, go on another night where you will get more detailed service. I've never had anything of their non-sushi menu, except for the calamari appetizer, which is very good. I recommend Sushi Rock highly and you will too. Pros: Amazing Sushi, Fresh, Fun Experience, Trendy Atmosphere Cons: Crowded at times, Pricey(but worth it) more

Great Ambience, sub-par food 5/29/2003

Sushi Rock is a great place to hang out and catch a drink with some friends, the music is great and there are tons of cool people milling around the bar. As far as the food is concereded is it average at best, your best bet for authentic sushi is a few blocks over at Ginza or over on the east side at Otani's. more

wednesdays 5/20/2003

I've only been to sushi rock on Wednesdays, when they have the half-priced menu available. On those days, reservations must be made far in advance - only to wait about a half hour at the door to get in. The entire place is loud and tables are rather close. But the food is a GREAT value at half price. Service on these days, as would be expected, is lacking due to the huge crowds. Overall, I still go almost every Wednesday because I like the loud music, fun atmosphere, and great value. Pros: Half-priced Wed., Good music, Great sushi Cons: Close tables, Long wait to get in, Slow to bring food more

Wednesday 1/2 price sushi 11/14/2002

We went to Sushi Rock on a Wednesday for ""cheap"" sushi. Very crowded, took a while to be seated despite a reservation. Took over 1 hr to get our food. And despite excellent reviews from friends, we didn't find the food that great. It's average. Certainly not a traditional Japanese restaurant, not even green tea on the menu. If you want funky western experience with ""white sushi"", this is the place to go. Music way too loud for a peaceful palate experience. Maybe the sushi tastes better on a non-half price night. Cons: noisy, loud more

The tofu sushi rocks! It is probably the best sushi I have ever had. The service stinks! Pros: great food, expensive Cons: crowded, bad service more
