My bf and I had a great experience at Sushi Leno! The brothers that own the place were very sweet and welcoming. We had the waffle roll and it was delicious! We also had the fried ice cream- yum! We will definitely go back soon! more

Sushi goers beware 1/8/2012

I rely on online reviews to help guide my purchasing decisions. Because the online reviews were so amazing for this place and its proximity to my childhood home, I ordered a $25 certificate for Sushi Leno. I was excited to visit this place even though it is in a really odd location. However, my experience was so very bad here, that I signed up on citysearch just to write my review and warn others who might buy coupons on other sites based solely on what I consider potentially false reviews. First of all, they are no longer accepting some online coupons, so don't buy one. (2) They are a sushi AND Chilean restaurant. Get sushi at a sushi restaurant - period. (3) Sushi was way overpriced, especially given their industrial location. And most of the rolls were terrible. The Waffle Roll was good and that was it. (4) Worst of all, without telling us, they substituted fake stringy pink crab for eel in THREE eel rolls. I guess they figured if they covered it in eel sauce, we wouldn't know. The owner claims that I am lying about this, which is hilarious considering that I am pretty sure he was the sushi chef that made them. He knew exactly what he was doing. (5) Service was extremely slow and lackluster even though we were the only people dining there for most of the meal. So there you go. I have no idea how their Chilean food is, or how they treat customers who haven't spent the well earned money on coupons. But beware of all these amazing reviews - I had a crappy meal for well over $100, when I could have easily gone to the grocery store and had better, faster food for under $50. more

I decided to try Sushi Leno out last night when I took my girlfriend to a late night Sunday dinner. We had heard about the restaurant online and since there aren't many good sushi restaurants in the Hialeah area, this seemed like the obvious choice. We walked in around 9:50, about ten minutes before closing time, and were greeted with warm smiles from all the employees. This instantly gave me a good feeling because I'm used to the dirty looks and plans to spit in my food when I walk in anytime near closing at other restaurants. The waiter warmly greeted us and since we had already done our research online, we ordered the "Waffle Roll', "Havana Roll" and of course two the classic "JB roll" and one"California roll". The sushi came out incredibly fast, and as soon as it arrived at our table, you could see that these were truly chefs. The presentation was wonderful, and the food truly looked wonderfully fresh. Not surprisingly, the sushi ended up tasting absolutely delicious. This is by far one of thee best sushi restaurants I have luckily come across. For 5 rolls at an excellent price, we left as s, with plans of coming back.\r \r And on top of all of this, this is my first YELP review I have ever placed. The food was truly just THAT good. Give these guys a shot. There's no way you'll be dissapointed. more

Just Amazing 12/23/2011

Let me start saying the other review is just unfair and a real lie. This place is amazing. Sushi, ceviche and Chilean cuisine under one roof. Service is great and the food is even better. Try the tostones with ceviche, to die for. Located in the corner of a shopping/office center it could be easily missed. Once inside you are greeted by a friendly staff. Sushi bar, fresh Ceviche stuffed tostones and other dishes await. Good variety of sushi and Chilean foods. Very comfortable. They also have a room for floor seating, pretty cool. more

Poor service and failure to honor sold coupons = loser 11/26/2011

They were ok, until nov 1. Now you walk in and first thing you see is a sign that says tell them if you have a restaurant dot com, groupon, or livingsocial coupon. Reason is so they can tell you they no longer accept them and to ask the vendor for a refund. That's horse dung. Chicken didn't taste fresh...salmon was fine...but poor service in honoring their obligations makes them unworthy and overpriced w/o the coupon. Would never return again. Stay away. more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 7/20/2011

There are chefs and there are restaurants owners, and in a rare occasion there is a blend of the two kind of like good blended wine that with age gets only better. Aspiring and talented chefs spend many years working under the reign of restaurant owners with the ultimate goal of one day having their own restaurant, and along with that full control over the menu, prices, clientele and their kitchen. This is the dream.\r \r A dream that has very recently come true for three chefs who worked at Soo Woo Japanese Steakhouse for a decade, some even longer. In a decade these chefs contributed many dishes and rolls to the present menu at Soo Woo, dishes they have now taken with them and made even better … perfected at their own establishment Sushi Leno.\r \r You can tell that these guys know and love food. That's always the difference between a chef and a business-man turned restaurateur. Chefs love to feed people. It's innate to them. This is very evident at Soo Woo's new-found competition. These guys saved up, paid their dues, scratch that, are still paying their dues, but now they have something to show for it. The location isn't great. Far from great actually, it's a block away from a prison and totally hidden. A hole in the wall. The best places always are.\r \r But the food …\r \r The food isn't far from great. It is. Great.\r \r Sushi Leno offers a wide variety of appetizers, noodles, meats, fish, and sushi in a less than fancy setting. A sushi bar which behind you'll find one of at least of the three owners, and if you're as lucky as I was (am) all three of them. The restaurant sits about 75 persons in a mix of booths, tables, and a private corner that's dark, romantic, set up with floor seating, and the perfect place to get up close and personal with their tuna tartar without any interruptions.\r \r If the convicts down the street knew what this tuna tartar tasted like and that it exists a block away from them prison break season 6 would be in the works. I'd kill for it.\r \r Lying on top of this bed of cucumber is this concoction of tuna, sesame oil, masago, scallions, togarashi sauce, and wait for it, wait for it … mariquitas (plantain chips) to eat it with. Seriously? How did I never think to eat plantain chips with tuna before. Pure genius. The tuna itself isn't chunky, but its taste is and soooo saucy. The chef has mixed in all the ingredients so well that it's hard to tell one apart one apart from the other when looking at it. The only thing that stands out are the green from the scallions and then there is the sauce which has held all of them together so that with every bite is an explosion of flavor. After having it for lunch I had to come back for it at 3 AM (they are open till 5 AM on the weekends).\r \r Another stroke of genius are their goat cheese empanadas. I HATE CHEESE. Enough said.\r \r Oh and their fried JB roll, which I tried because my friend ordered it. I never order JB roll. Tuna always trumps salmon in my world, and cream cheese I can do without, but this JB roll is crunchy, then salty, then sweet, and it's just the right amount of cream cheese. After having discovered it I can't just turn my back on it. What if Christopher Columbus would have just left America? There would be no Sushi Leno in existence. And I would have nothing to write about and even worse nothing to eat.\r \r I also had the pleasure of trying the ceviche, fried cheese cake, conch roll with mango and avocado, and Hamachi roll with pickled jalapeno and a very spicy green sauce I've yet to figure out. My suggestion: tuna tartar is an appetizer, but it shouldn't be. It's the main event, so have any of these items as teases because the tuna tartar is a closer. You might even go back for round two more
