Best

Me and my close group of friends try to hit this place at least twice a month and have never been disappointed. Sasha knows us by sight and name and remembers our favorite drinks ...

Worst

The sushi isn't great, but this place is great for the low-budgeted sushi addict who just NEEDS a fix while they save up for the pricier (and better) joints in town. Although noth...

Excellence! 2/20/2009

As a quick meal on a tour through Portland, this is the place. PSU students travel past Blue Fin to get to this place. Even the house Saki is good! (I've never had good house Saki anywhere else) The best weekend lunch in town! more

Fishy 8/25/2008

It might be fish but IMO this is the worst Sushi joint in Downtown Portland. more

It smells like fish. What else 4/26/2006

Sushi Takahashi is exactly what you expect it to be - an affordable, quick, kitchy sushi joint - and that's not a bad thing. It's not always a good thing, either, and I've had more dubious pieces of fish and more slightly queasy mornings-after with this sushi joint than any other. Still, I keep going back, probably because of the convenient location (near Powell's - I'm hooked) and because when they do it well, it's pretty good. Deep-fried bits of Tempura Tai are placed on rice and drizled with a spicy sauce, and if you let them cool, they are tasty. Hand rolls, too, are a specialty here. I rarely take things off their trademark train-o-sushi, and order them fresh instead. more

Love the sushi, love the prices! 8/26/2005

It's really best when Mr. Takahashi himself is there, but it's good anytime. It can get crowded on the cheap nights, though, so be prepared to wait. I love waiting for something good to come along on the train. If you've never tried it, be sure to request takoyaki! The decor is a little weird, but it's clean and nice to come in to from a rainy Portland day. more

Cho Cho darling, you're simply fabulous 6/6/2005

It's tempting not to review Sushi Takahashi, because currently there's seldom a wait and that's the way I like it. But it's so good and so cheap that I feel slighly evil keeping the news to myself. Ignore the sushi train travelling around the room--it's entertaining, but the sushi chefs will make whatever you want within minutes, and it's all fresh and sushi-tastic. While prices never exceed $3.00 a plate, Wednesday nights and all day Saturday all sushi is $1.25; a sushi-stuffed Saturday night meal for two came to exactly $11.25 the last time I was there. Two to try: the Cho Cho roll and the Tempura Tai shouldn't be missed. more
