Awful!! 5/11/2007

I grew up eating authentic Japanese food in a city with a food obsession, and Spokane has a few solid hits in Japanese/Japanese fusion cuisine. Suki Yaki is not one of them. I have eaten there three times in three years with my husband, and every time has been nothing more than mediocre. The food is barely passable as authentic, and at least one person in our party has gotten sick each time. The shabu shabu is probably the best thing on the menu, mainly because of the fun factor (you cook it yourself)...though, it is the only thing on the menu that is actually worth going out for, Last night was the final time my husband and I will be convinced to give Suki Yaki ""one more try;"" my husband found a wig's worth of long hair in his curry, and I ended up horribly ill from a piece of salmon that I didn't realize was probably a week old until it was halfway down my throat, thanks to my love of wasabi & soy sauce. Pros: shabu shabu, friendly service Cons: questionable authenticity, questionable food handling more

Don't judge it by its appearance 4/29/2006

From the outside, this place doesn't look inviting in the slightest, but when I decided on a whim to try it, I found myself amazed at what I'd been missing. First off is value - I went during lunch with a friend and had the lunch special, 2 maki rolls for 8.50, and was thoroughly delighted with the result. The service was fast, and my friend and I soon had 20 pieces of sushi sitting in front of us. We had ordered crunchy rolls (shrimp tempura) and unagi maki (barbecued eel), and both were amazing. The waitress and the host were both very nice, and we left very satisfied. From looking at the menu, the lunch special seems to be the best deal, but I haven't tried anything else. Check it out, you won't be disappointed! Pros: Authentic, Cheap, Friendly Cons: No windows more

Disappointing... 7/31/2004

It's like a crap shoot going here. But usually the service is poor....and often it takes FOREVER to get your food! I have had to wait 45 minutes to get our order, and one time it only the sushi came, then the rolls a half hour later! Unfortunately, there aren't many options in this town. Aki's was very good for the price, but they have moved and of yet I don't think they're open. Hopefully they haven't gone for good! Pros: Good sushi Cons: , slow more
