I have been getting my hair done by a stylist named Tawny Perkins for over 7 years now. I followed her from her previous salon in Santa Monica to Suburbia in Studio City. I drive over 40 miles just to go to her. She is understanding and compassionate. She is patient when I am undecided on what I want to do with my hair. She is always punctual and professional, yet we talk for the entire 2 hours I spend in the chair. Not only is she a hairdresser but she makes her clients feel like they are her friends. The staff at Suburbia goes above and beyond the call of duty. They are consistantly friendly and upbeat. There is never anything but a smile on the face of not only the stylists but the clients in the salon as well. I enjoy spending a few hours there getting my hair done because they make you feel at home there. I highly reccomend Suburbia to anyone in need of a good haircut, good conversation, or just a good enviroment. Pros: Read my review. Cons: Limited parking, so valet, or park down the street. I moved to Ventura county a year ago. I've been to 3 stylists in the Thousand Oaks / Westlake area and couldn't find anyone to give me a decent cut. Ever since I found Jen Ellenburg at Suburbia I can't settle for anything less. She has given me the best cuts I have ever had in my life. It's worth the 30 mile drive! erin the esthetician at suburbia is wonderful. she put me on 'eyebrow bootcamp' because my brows were looking terrible and now than are so beautifully shaped . . . i love them!! her facials are fabulous too, she has such a nice touch and is extremely knowledgable and passionate about what she does. i highly recommend giving her a try - you will not be disappointed! i am a new client to suburbia and saw tawny earlier this week for highlights, cut, and blowdry. . . my stylist who i had been going to for 14 years recently moved and i was petrified to start seeing a new stylist. nevertheless, a friend of mine went to tawny and was very happy and i loved my friend's hair so i figured i'd take a chance. tawny consulted with me very thoroughly before she began and she was so adorable and seemed very confident and knowledgable! after our consultation i was more at ease and felt that i had made the right decision. i was so thrilled with the outcome of my hair - she nailed it right on! not only did the color look amazing but her cut was fabulous and the blowdry was even better!! the price was just right in comparison to what mid to upscale salons charge and i was comfortable paying for the wonderful service i received. more

My hair is blond on top and black on the bottom. These two colors can create a disaster if one creeps into the other's territory. My friend is a hairdresser and really incredible with color. She usually does my hair but she got a second job. Now, she's often too overloaded to fit me into her schedule. I was SO afraid of what my hair would look like if I went to another hairdresser (Plus, there's an etiquitte issue)! I did some research and found Tawny. Both colors look great. The seperation of black and blond is clean. The cut is fun and funky, just how I like it. I thought it would be hard finding a stylist capable enough to get everything right. She really nailed it! She was so sweet and (justifiably) confident. I can't believe I found someone this good on my first try! more

Ok Ladies....I know we all love a great blowout! For years I have been heading over to Beverly Hills once or twice a week to have my hair styled. NOT ANYMORE!!! I was having lunch with a friend who had the most amazing hair. I asked her who styled it, and she quicky said RICK at Suburbia Salon....in Studio City! I called durning our lunch and made an apt for the following Saturday. As I arrived, I was greeted by the most friendly front desk I have seen in a while. This Salon is Amazing! So I asked the receptionist who RICK was and she pointed over to him. He was finishing blowing out this beautiful blonde bob. As the client got up and walked towards the front desk I quickly realized who this blonde was.....KRISTIN CAVALLARI!! How lucky was I!!! I knew I was in great hands. RICK quickly introduced himself. He was so friendly and seemed truly happy to be there. Not to mention those eyes!!! As I sat down, I explained to him that I had an event to go to that night and I wanted my hair to be something with lots of volume and movement ...something that would turn heads!! He smiled and said he knew exactly what to do. Off I went for the most amazing shampoo and head message ever!! As RICK began his magic, I could tell by the way he worked that he knew what he was doing. With in 30 mins he was done. Ladies, this man had me ready to walk down a Red Carpet!! It was absolutely AMAZING!! More than I could have asked for! As I left, I felt ABSOLUTELY beautiful!!! I had more compliments that night than I have ever had before. I have a lot of hair and have spent most of my life searching for someone who can meet the needs of the massive amount of thick, naturally curly hair (that's worn straight) so when I found Christine Short, I knew the search was over! Thanks to Christine I have more GOOD hair days than bad and I have someone who has no problem looking me in the eye and saying in the most sincere way possible, ""There's no way I am dying your hair red!"" Stylists like that are few and far between. I would follow Christine to the end of the earth, so it was a no brainier for me to make my first appointment at Suburbia to see Christine. I've been going to Christine Short for years. She has always done beautiful work. Amazing color and highlights. When I asked her about extensions she recommended that I get mine done with Nuria and I couldn't be happier. I'm amazed at how undetectable they look and how natural they feel. I'm not quite sure what the previous reviewer is talking about. You can't judge the entire salon on the actions of one stylist. Most of them are freelance and all of them are different. I have never had highlights as good as the ones given to me by Christine. If you want your hair done right then make for certain that you go to her. CHRISTINE ROCKS!!! I'm just being honest so that others know what they're in for...but I went to this salon for blonde highlights and I just can't stand when I go to salons and they don 't understand that the color should start right at the scalp and not like half an inch away..it was just sloppy. It may have just been the stylist I got, but I don't know about this place...I have gotten even better deals on the prices at beverly hills salons too. After dying my hair black for the last 7 months, I knew it would be a challenge to get these locks a lovely shade of brown again. That is, without completely destroying my hair in the process. But Tawny surpassed all expectations and made sure I walked out of the salon with a FABULOUSLY SHINY chocolate brown shade, SOFT & HEALTHY strands and a BRILLIANTLY flattering cut. After ho-hum experiences at other ""hip"" valley salons, I found Suburbia (i'd only been driving by for months)!! I called them on a thursday for a Friday morning appointment (and amazingly got one!) I was to be seen by TONNY (sp?), a super cute, super talented, young stylist for a highlight, cut and blowdry. I have NEVER in my 10+ years of coloring been so thrilled with my color. She completely nailed the color I was dying for (pun intended) And for added bonus, she was also able to get my unruly bangs in check. As for the salon atmosphere, it was remarkable; not at all pretenious. Did I mention that after my appointment I snuck my lil girl in for a super-cute bob? The salon doted upon her like a little super-star. They not only made her look great, but I KNOW she felt great too! Fanstastic. Pros: valet $3.00, faintless pricing, best colorists! Look no further than Suburbia and Tanya. The salon it self has a ver cool vibe. Everything from the layout to the friendly staff was wonderful. The front desk girls were sweet and prompt. Parking was a breeze as valet is on hand and it's worth it since the streets are usually jammed. Tanya is a wiz with color. I described exactly what I wanted and she nailed my expectations and even exceeded them. Her assistant Amanda is so sweet and attentive to both Tanya's and my needs. Pre Tanya I tried a few other people and was totally disappointed with the results. I will never go any where else. I also highly recommend the deep conditioning treatment. I had dried out and damaged hair from 17 years of being a competitive swimmer and from having my hair colored and this treatment fixed the problem in about 10 mins. I walked in a tired mom with bad hair and walked out looking like a swan. My haircut was super. The atmosphere was perfect. The people were great. The products were top notch. The store had so many cool things in it. more

I recently went to Suburbia and had a Diamond Peel with Erin.... this treatment was amazing, you not only get a full facial, but the diamond peel as well. I had never had this treatment before but I am now hooked... Erin is very knowledgeable in skincare and she even reccomended vitamins for me to take... I really liked that. The best thing about this salon is the hair stylists! Especially the talented and creative Christine Short! Of course, Amber, Angela, Dorit and Nourya are also terrific! Ok, I admit it, I'm a Jen Junkie - she's been doing my hair for over 10 years. I tried to leave, I tried to go with another, but keep coming back to her. Now she's open her own salon. She has the know-how and serious experience of knowing not only how to do all types of hair, but changing with the times, keeping you look up to date (without looking like you are trying too hard) AND how to run a top notch salon.
