Subconscious has been my favorite sandwich shop since I have been a kid. The philly is the absolute best thing ever! Now I am pregnant and Subconscious has closed and it seems to be the only thing I truly crave! BRING IT BACK!!! more

great place 1/1/2006

Subconscious is great! I love it because you can order a philly steak sandwich without the onions or peppers. Everything I've tried there has been good so far. They could use a little decorating help though. more

Looks like a dive, but isn't all bad 7/12/2005

You can find Subconscious across the street from Lewisville High School on the western side. It's in a very worn shopping center next to a tire changing station. I'm a very adventurous eater who likes to discover different tastes. I'm that guy that will eat an strange food item just so I can say that it sucked. I have to taste something before I can say that I don't like it. I also enjoying going back to certain food favorites: fajitas, nachos, flan, Cobb salads, and Philly cheesesteaks. The nicest thing about Subconscious is that they gave me an opportunity to be adventurous AND eat a favorite food!!! I ordered a Philly and an Italian sub. The Italian sub was below average. The bread was a bit bland, there weren't too many vegetables added to the sub, and the meats were ok. The Italian sub was for my wife, but I was allowed a couple bites to figure out if we'd go back there for family order out nights. The answer from her was a resounding "no." She added that there was too much vinegar and oil and not enough black pepper added to the sandwich, both of which could be fixed, but not to the point that the sandwish would be made significanly better. It would get 1.5 stars out of 5 in my book. The Philly was another story. After watching my wife take the first bite of the Italian and watching her facial expressions, I was expecting much of the same for the Philly. I was very pleasantly surprised. The Philly had that great Philly meat taste (not sure how else to describe it). There was the exact amount of mayo included to make the Philly just a little gooey. The bread was toasted and bland, but the toasting added some texture variation to the sandwich that did not help the Italian sandwich. I asked for extra green peppers and no onions and that's what I got. It's always nice for picky eaters to get exactly what they ordered. To top it all off, both the sandwiches were pretty big and cheap. Unfortunately, only one was any good. If you are looking for a Quizno's or Subway replacement, this is NOT the place. The building looks old, the seats are uncomfortable (I say while I waited for the food) and there is zero decoration to the inside. The sub itself was big and cheap, but it only made the sub a bigger and cheaper version of a bad meal. The Philly was really good. Everything about it was really good. If the owner would move away from bland bread they may be some hope for the sub, but the Philly's flavors were easily able to overcome that deficiency. Go here for the Philly, go around the corner for a sub at Subway. more
