Straub's

Good: The Dessert variety, prepared and ready to serve.. Bad: What's not to like when viewing the prepared desserts at Straubs.. Improvements: Difficult to do, but individual servings are difficult to get out of the store and finally home without them needing repair work some times. Just have to be mindful of how the box is handled.. Other: Needed dessert for six; and they wanted something unique. Selected a cheese cake. Got it home, made a ganache, chilled the serving plates. Drizzled the ganache on the plates in a delightful pattern; placed the cheese cake in the center. Then sifted powdered sugar and chocolate over the top. Place a leave of mint and a strawberry on the cheese cake and it was a smashing hit. What a great idea and selection from Straubs.. more

Staubs is my favorite grocery store in the city. They’ve got a great selection, all packed into a tiny store. The service is awesome. Everyone is so nice and helpful. Also, they’re ready made food is so good, which is nice for a single working girl, like me. The prices are a bit high, but its worth it. more

I think that it's always nice having a "nicer" grocery store nearby. And Straub's definitely qualifies. Their prices are a little high on some things, but the quality of their meat is quite superior to any of the other stores in town. The butchers are also extremely helpful, they go so far as to tell you how to prepare the meat if you ask. Also, their prepared food is quite good, with a large selection. It ends up being cheaper than going out. It's the closest store to us, so we often drop by to pick something up that we need ... but usually it's our "special occasion" grocery store. more

This is a nice grocery store, but it's too expensive for me to make it anything more than an occasional stop. We like to go here in the summer and pick up fun, delicious food for picnics. They have a great deli with lots of good salads. They also have a good selection of fancy soda (my husband really likes good root beer and cream soda and goes here for this). They are quite expensive and we only really go here on a special occasion. I feel like now that we have a Trader Joe's in the area we can just go there instead for a lot of the non-deli items. more

This is a nice little grocery store in Central West End, on corner of Kingshighway and Maryland. The produce is pretty fresh. The meats are great. This store’s bakery has fresh bakery items everyday. Their muffins are delicious. Nice wine/alcohol rack – wide selection. Ok on beer. However, everything in this store costs more – compared to Schnucks, Shop n Save.. more
