We have visited the Stockyard several times. We have even had two corporate Christmas parties there. We went tonight and it was horrible. I NEVER give bad reviews. My husband and I look for fine dining wherever we travel. We are used to paying $$$$\r for a night out, so we aren't expecting a great meal without paying for it. Granted, we aren't in Maryland, but when we see crab cakes on the menu in a nice restaurant, we expect crab to be the major ingredient. We waited forever for our food to come out and my steak was COLD! Not lukewarm, COLD. Granted it was Valentine's Day, however, our waitress was almost invisible. My husband went to the bar for a second glass of wine. On our way out, my husband mentioned to the manager that this was our worst experience there. He simply responded that he understood, with no explanation or apology. We expect a certain level of food and service. They are charging fine dining prices with cafeteria food. We will not return and suggest to others that there are other fine dining alternatives n Nashville. The Stockyard used to be a go to place in our city. You could go there and expect high quality service and a great meal. Sadly, no longer is this the case. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 5/22/2013

Listen up folks - was at this ""Establishment"" this past week, if there is a negative rating system this restaurant would get a -10!! That's right I would rate it as one of the ten worst steakhouses I have ever eaten out. I don't mind paying for a good meal, but let me tell you, I never ate!!! We had a group of 6 dine in this ""Establishment"" on Friday night. We were among only 18 or so dinners in the place. The evening started with waiting for 20 minutes to get drinks and having the waiter come back to us with our drinks and telling us the bartender was too busy talking to the two girls at the bar. Dinner started ok, but when the overpriced steaks were delivered that is where it bombed. Two of us had to return our steaks, one for being well done instead of med-rare and the other for tasting like they decided to give the beef a brining. It was not edible!!! After everyone else finished their steaks which most of them could have used a saw to cut, our steaks were brought out. Well, you would think someone from the staff would hang out until you tasted and checked your meal?? NOT!! One steak was RAW and the other was RANCID! Well after the bad steak incident, we get our bill. Well hold on to your seat folks, you need a lot of cash to pay the bill. Watch the drinks, $36 for a glass of house wine and $32 for a double mixed drink!!! Spoke to the General Manager who refused to give us the name or information on the owner and his attitude was basically, well we took the two steaks off the bill! Really, thats all you can do for such a poor experience. My advise to anyone considering going there, DON'T!!! more

Less than Poor 5/12/2012

If there was a negative rating I'd use it. I don't mind paying for a good steak. Operative work ""good"". Well this was my second and last visit to this place. $40 for a prime rib that was tasteless, tough, full of sinew and as much fat as meat is a bit much. Add $7 for a potato and $7 for a small head of lettuce, called a baby iceberg salad. Ridiculously expensive. Oh! and $16 for a margarita. Should have gone to a Sizzler, Outback or Logan's Road House. Would have had a better steak and saved over $100 bucks. This place has gone so far downhill, not sure if it can recover.....I know I will not return... more

A Stone-cold Tourist trap. 5/5/2012

I brought my wife and mother, we skipped the appetizers, we each had a steak, vegetable, potato, shared one bottle of wine and each had a desert. With a 15% tip, the check came to $527.00. The appalling thing about this experience wasn't the the mind-numbing price tag. For this sort of money one should reasonably anticipate an above average meal. However, the steaks were tough and not cooked to order. Every single one of them! We spent the entire meal vigorously sawing with our serrated knives the meat from the sinew and gristle and chewing like we were eating cheap overcooked pork chops at a roadside diner. The vegetables that came with this meal arrived under-cooked and only slightly warmer than room temperature. The potatoes au gratin were semi-raw. When you are ordering ? la carte (paying separately for everything on your plate) and paying almost $100 just for the steak, this isn't just a disgrace, in my opinion, there is something else going on. It is inconceivable that the management is not aware of the inferior quality of the produce they are sending out to the table. Nor is it possible that they have not read or heard any feedback in this regard. Several days later, still stinging from the feeling that I had been cheated like a poor dumb rube, I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager. He was a polite young man. He listened attentively and regretfully apologized and thanked me for telling him all about it. I hung up feeling pretty sure that he had heard all of this many times before, had apologized many times before and was really not in a position to do anything about it or lose any sleep over it. You have been warned. This establishment is in the sheep shearing business...... and you are the sheep. more

Disappointed 12/4/2011

We should have taken a clue from the almost empty parking lot. Ambience was quaint but the whole building smelled like backed up sewage. The menu is extremely overpriced for the quality of food we were served. We had the Kobe filet and it was nothing special. The service was the only element of their ""fine dining"" we enjoyed. Please don't waste your time. If you want a good steak, try Stoney River down by Cool Springs. The food, service and ambience is delightful! Happy Dining, Misty more

Former Nashville Icon 11/6/2011

Worst experience we have had in years. Not afraid to pay for great meal with ambience and quality! This was a waste of both time and money. Embarrassing to our city. Total tourist trap. Hotel and shuttles vans bring in the unsuspecting and we live visitors left with this horrific experience. Staff untrained and rude- not at all the former experience of the delightful staff that had been around for years and enjoyed their jobs. Pricing is a joke. -----Don't do this to yourself or your friends. more

Best Steak I Ever Had!!!! 8/8/2011

I am from out of town and was staying at the Opryland Hotel for business. The concierge recommended the Stockyard Restaurant for a great steak. She made the reservation for us, and one of their shuttle buses picked us up from the hotel and took us to dinner for free! Once there, the building is spectacular. It was once a stockyard, and is a historical landmark for the state of Tenn. Our server was Lisa, and she was amazing! She was very knowledgeable about the menu and the extensive wine list (that just won the Wine Spectator 2 cup award for excellence). We ordered Cain 5, a blend from Napa that was exquisite! Lisa told us about the Kobe Beef specials. We all had the Kobe Tomahawk Ribeye w/ family style portions of lobster bacon mac n cheese and Sweet mash potatoes. The Tomahawk was the best steak I've ever had and the mac n cheese was decadent! It was expensive, but worth every penny. I eat at Flemmings, Ruth's Chris, or the Palm in every city I'm in. This was a uniquely Nashville dining experience like I've never had before. I will be back this fall with my entire staff of 40 for a sales meeting. Yes, they have private dining for big groups, too! Loved it Loved it Loved it!!! more

Over priced bad food! 7/11/2011

Very disappointed in the food and way over priced. I sent back my salmon because it was way over salted the waiter brought me another and i still could not eat it. Waiter insisted we have a desert and i was thinking that it was no charge because of my horrible meal but no they charged me for it and the over salted salmon. I have never had that done in any restaurant.. Unbelievable!! more

DO NOT GO HERE! 4/15/2011

WAY OVER PRICED! Waiters definitely try to upsell you from a $39 steak to a $109 steak... in a sneaky way. Charming place/atmosphere to be sure, but the food is just okay... not mind-blowing like we thought it was going to be and definitely not worth the over $1000 we paid for our party of 4. Don't believe the hype. It's not worth the money. more

My experience 4/4/2011

My impression, very nice historic Nashville building, nice architecture as well on the inside. Staff was nice and waiter was polite. Not sure if it was me, but when I looked at the prices on the menu and when the waiter went over the menu items the prices where double. And the bill reflected that latter. Nice wine list though all of it was over priced. My bill was over 200 dollars and my wine came in a glass from Wal-Mart (my guess). I would have expected a Riedel wine glass at these exorbitant prices. TGI Fridays has better wine glasses than the Stockyard. I will say my New York Strip was probably the best I ever had and the dessert was delicious as well. My date got the peppered chicken and she loved it. If you have money to blow, it may be well worth it to try the Stockyard, maybe just to say you?ve been there. Expect to spend over 200 dollars for two people. Overall I?d say I am glad I ate there, once, would I go back, no. For myself I do not have the resources to spend this kind of money for dinner. more

Words cannot describe how disappointing this restaurant was! 12/18/2010

Wish I could leave negative stars! Horrible across the board! Service was shady. Steaks were probably horse meat. I ordered their KC Strip off the menu that somehow got replaced with their special bone in Strip. Even after I specifically asked if the normal ""40 Day aged KC Strip"" was bone in because I did not want a bone in strip. Either my server lied or was incompetent and didn't know any better. Skip the Mac and Cheese and just knaw on a piece of card board. Sent steak back after struggling with the bad steak knife to saw through the grissle filled meat. Waiter told management but all he did was walk by our table 3-4 times and never stopped by to see if there was a way to remedy the situation. I sought him out after paying $175.30 bill for two bites of what they called Certified Angus beef to share my thoughts and quickly figured out that the incompetence came from the top down. I'm in the beef industry and I would suggest to the Certified Angus people that they pull their endorsement from this restaurant. I have never sent a dish back nor have I ever taking the time to write a review but I hope this keeps others from the tremendous disappointment that I felt. more

Never go there 10/9/2010

Extremely over priced and very average food. Better steaks from Safeway. Wait staff could double as con-men. Be sure to ask the price when they try to switch you from baked potato to loaded potato - $40.00 are you kidding. more

Absolutely skip it! 7/19/2010

This place was recommended by my realtor - this should have raised serious red flags, but thought we'd try anyways - big mistake! Cons: Way expensive, not worth the money, corny, touristy more
