Stein's Bakery

I am a native Dallasite and have loved Steins Bakery for years. A birthday cake from there was always a super special treat that everyone loved and craved. Yesterday I picked up two cakes and was shocked at the condition of the bakery. IT WAS FILTHY! The baked goods in the cases- cookies and sweetrolls - looked stale. The case counter tops were greasy and covered with crumbs. There was an empty 'free sample' cake dome that was covered with a dirty film, and a box lid with the word 'trash' sitting next to it. I started looking closer, and the floor was filthy with ground in dirt along the edges of the carpet runner. The cashier/ party goods area was just as bad. The greeting cards had not been restocked or maintained and no care or upkeep had been given to the party goods. One of my cake boxes had greasy crumbs stuck to the bottom of the box. Having said all of this, the cakes look like they are supposed to, but I'm wary of eating them now. If the storefront is rundown and dirty, why would I believe the bakery wouldn't also be dirty and neglected. I'm sending a copy of this review to the Dallas Health Department. So sad and unhappy this has happened to Steins. Buyer beware. more

My family and I have been using stein's for years for cakes. They have the absolute best cakes in the area. They r definitely my first choice for the wedding cake for my upcoming wedding. I won't use anybody else for it. more

First purchased cheese pockets in 1965. Now, purchase a dozen each visit to Dallas. They are the best I have ever found anywhere. And, check those prices. Lots of fancy French places in town with 3 times the price. Steins has stayed affordable and kept the quality top notch. Try the cheese puff sticks. Hmmmm.\r Cream Puffs, eclairs, ""rocks""... just be glad you have them in your city. I Will see Steins in June, 2008.\r Know these limited purchases of mine can't keep them going, so get in there Dallas, while you can. more
