Closed 7/30/2008

After wandering around in the area looking for this restaurant, we stopped in a nearby hotel and asked where we could find it. They said it was no longer there! Don't know when it closed but there was absolutely no sign of it. So we walked a couple blocks up to a Thai restaurant recommended by the hotel clerk and enjoyed a different flavor than we anticipated. more

best apple crisp anywhere 5/5/2008

I loved this place and eat here often the apple crisp is to die for made fresh every day. I love the mac and cheese the have a juke box and a room with pool dowstairs. I love to go there for games because they have a screen that is 16' wide Pros: good food Cons: they get really busy and sometimes you have to stand up or not get a table more

Hole on the wall. 3/11/2007

Expensive. Had better chicken and ribs at my local grocery store for far less money. Peppery washed out taste. Pros: Very expensive food very cheap ambience. Cons: parking, opens just a few hours a day strange place unconfortable seating. more

Overpriced, tasteless and awkward 10/6/2006

I agree they make you pay before you get the food because you wouldn't want to pay after trying it. Cons: expensive, bad food more

Horrible food - weird place 6/11/2006

My boyfriend and I read lots of great reviews of this place and headed over to satisfy a BBQ craving. The first thing to know is that you'll have to pay when you place your order - their clientele has a tendency to run out on the check! We ordered a sampler of all the ""goodies"" - ribs, chicken and catfish + two sides - Mac salad and greens. The ribs were okay but nothing special. The chicken was horrible - dry and almost inedible. The catfish had a great crispy outside but no taste at all! I wasn't really even sure there was any fish in there. The sides were bland - the runniest mac salad I've ever seen (do they pour milk over it or something?) and the greens were just that, greens. No ham hocks or any other descernable flavor that makes greens so good. In all, it was a completely wasted trip and we will never return. Don't waste your time, money or tastebuds with this one! Cons: Bad food, Weird patrons more

Not worth the trip!! 4/5/2006

After reading the reviews of this restaurant 2 weeks ago, my husband and I couldn't wait to try the food on our upcoming trip to Seattle!! We were SOOOO disappointed! Both the ribs and chicken tasted like they were pickled instead of bbq, the pasta salad had one flavor, PEPPER, and my hubby is a pepper lover! Their cole slaw and cornbread were both bland. Our daughter didn't care for the the fried chicken ( in all fairness, I thought it was very good) she did however enjoy the mac and cheese. We will not waste our time or money again! Cons: terrible parking, clean own table more

Consistently delicious BBQ 2/20/2006

I have been to the Steel Pig BBQ over a dozen times in the last three years. Each experience has delivered tender, tangy ribs and yummy sides (especially the mac & cheese and cole slaw). I would recommend this place to anyone interested in a satisfying and scrumptous meal at a reasonable price. more

Terrible underdone ribs 5/27/2005

Some friends decided to get some carryout from Steel Pig on a recent warm Friday night. We all ordered ribs and had the collard greens, mac & cheese, mac salad and slaw as sides. We were all surprised that the ribs seemed underdone for barbeque. They were unbelievable fatty with lots of gristle. The fact they were underdone left the fat in huge gluey globs attached to the meat, rather than cooking down enough so it could be easily removed. The primary ingredients in the sauce seemed to be pickling spices and sugar, which we all found to be an unpleasant combination on ribs. We had 4 large orders, and none of us finished even one rib. This barbeque was WAY below average and the good quality side dishes couldn't make up for the the poor quailty of the ribs. more

Best BBQ in Seattle. Fabulous Collard Greens! 2/23/2005

What everyone says about this place is true. Steel Pig BBQ is the best around. The place up on Aurora looks like nothing special from the outside, but the inside is clean, completely smoke free, well lit and packed with people enjoying the catfish, chicken, ribs, cornbread, beans and rice, sweet potato pie, etc. Great value. The help is super friendly and everything is made to order. The collard Greens were the best I've ever had. Melt in your mouth tender and not bitter at all. Fabulous place. Don't miss it! Pros: Great food!, Clean and smoke free, Great Service more

The BEST in town! 11/1/2004

Absolutely the best bbq in Seattle. Their ribs have the legendary ""smoke line"" which all honest-to-goodness bbqers through out the nation strive for. The meat is incredibly tender, too. The pulled pork is spectacular. BBQ sauce is very territorial and The Steel Pig follows the Carolina version ( thin and VERY sweet ) which is not my preference. Pros: Best bbq in Seattle, Fairly priced., Quick service. more

Real Good affordable BBQ 7/25/2004

The place is humble looking with good jazz sounds and nice pictures, however, the food is to die for. The ribs are great, the chick wings are great, and the pulled pork sandwich is out of this world with the clear North Carolina style or BBQ sauce. The service is the best we have had at any restaurant and the staff aims to please. Do not pass up on the Sweet Potato Pie when you finish. It is worth it even if you fill up on the BBQ. The price is great as well with three people easily getting fed with a feast for under $30. Pros: Great BBQ food, Great Service, Great price Cons: , No AC , No fancy tables more

Q-lover 7/13/2004

This little hole-in-the-wall (literally), located in a garage next to the Church of Scientology, on Aurora Ave, is THE BEST BBQ I've ever had. I've tried Dixies (overrated), Jone's, Milt's and Pecos, which are all good, but the Pig is by far the best. The reason: great selection (contantly being expanded), meats smoked to perfection, super-friendly people and the unique suaces. My favorite is the chicken and ribs smothered in the spicy sauce. YUM!!! The only downside: it could be spicier for my taste. (But then I'm always trying to order 5 stars at the Thai resturants too.) Pros: FOOD!, decor, service more

Great Eats!!! 2/13/2004

I HIGHLY recommend the Steel Pig! The staff is surprisingly friendly and the food is delightfully good. The interesting thing about the Pig is that it offers cuisine not usually found in these parts - and it is good, simple food! We usually get two dinners: two pulled pork sandwiches, one side of mac and cheese, one side of collard greens, two slices of sweet potato pie, and two cokes (total is about $22). We have been many times and plan to keep it a part of our weekly routine. There is table and bench seating. Pros: Great food!, Very friendly, Quick service more

Must try 2/5/2004

Stopped by for a Quick Lunch and was treated to a Great Meal. The smoked ribs were delicius and the Owner Mace who happened to be there at the time was friendly and attentive. He even took the time to show me around the back were they smoke the meats on an $18,000 smoker. Don't know about surfdork's comment but I can tell a smoker when I see it, he's either dumb or a competitor trying to hit below the belt with lies. Pros: Quickly served, Inexpensive more

Best BBQ in Seattle! 11/22/2003

Steel Pig is the absolute best BBQ in Seattle, hands-down. This Carolina/Georgia-style restaurant has excellent smoked and fried chicken, awesome ribs, and tasty catfish. Their sides are to die for, and all of their foods tastes just as good as any local BBQ joint in the southeast. And...they have sweet tea! They also do small and large to-go orders if you're in a hurry. Better to take-out for a large group, as their seating isn't the most expansive. Pros: Great food, Great people, Great price more

YUMMY!! 10/13/2003

The BQQ pork sandwich is wonderful! Not too spicy, not sloppy, great flavor and tender meat. I highly recommend this place. And the employees could nto be friendlier - on our first visit, the owner came out to personally greet us and chat for a while. Steel Pig has definitely earned a repeat customer in me! Yum Yum! Pros: excellent food, price is right, fun Cons: need more seating more
